2020 – a Special Year. Romanian astronomy

Summary/Abstract: The year 2020 is certainly going to be a special one in human history. An invisible enemy, previously unknown, invaded the planet, bringing most activities to a halt. This resulted in fewer planes, clear skies, stars shining bright again after many decades. However, there was no real benefit for astronomical research, either: national and international meetings were cancelled or postponed, scientific publications discontinued or delayed, researchers kept far apart from each other, even if only physically. Was this year unique in the history of research in Romania? Perhaps it is time to look back, to see how other generations coped with terrible hardships (world wars, earthquakes, Communism) in order to get inspiration for what we need to do from now on.
