Summary/Abstract: The European Capital of Culture programme encourages cities to rediscover their identity and to reposition themselves in a multicultural, European dimension perspective. Despite this, only some ECoC appealed to religion in their cultural programmes, and this occured in two cases - when aiming to demonstrate their European dimension or when dealing with social inclusion issues. Moreover, there was limited interest paid by cities in developing projects explicitly involving religious communities or interfaith projects. A radiography of such projects is offered by this research, covering ECoCs from 1995 until 2018.
