Summary/Abstract: Pregnancy is a specific period of life not only for women but also for men. Some fathers-to-be complain about symptoms similar to those displayed in their expectant partners. This phenomenon is known as the couvade syndrome. Studies have shown that it relates to approximately 11–22% of the global male population. The aim of our research was to verify the occurrence of the most frequent symptoms of the couvade syndrome in Poland and to test the possibility of statistically significant relation between the syndrome and education, trimester of pregnancy as well as the planned or unplanned pregnancies and whether the women were to become mothers for the first time. The studied group involved 90 men who completed three questionnaires prepared for the purposes of this work. The first questionnaire referred to the general information and some sociometric data; in the second one the subjects answered questions about how they reacted when they learned about the partner's pregnancy; the third one tested the appearance of the different symptoms of couvade syndrome
