Summary/Abstract: The article compares and contrasts the following definitions: "regionalizm językowy" (‘linguistic regionalism’), "dialektyzm" (‘item of a dialect’) and "gwaryzm", which were taken from scientific studies and analyses how they are related, paying attention to the sociolinguistic aspect of this term. Then the article presents some conclusions from the analysis of the survey, which examines how the concept of "linguistic regionalism" functions in the consciousness of language speakers. The final section presents the opinions of linguists regarding the future of regionalisms in language, and confronts them with predictions which were formulated decades ago and which still require verification.
