Summary/Abstract: This article is an attempt to evaluate the usefulness and the purposes of using the grammar- -translation method or its elements in foreign language classes. In the first part of the article, the author briefly describes the history of the grammar-translation method, presents its major assumptions and aims, along with the standpoint of its followers and opponents. In the second part, the author attempts to establish if this method can be useful and how to introduce it into the process of teaching Polish as a foreign language.
