Summary/Abstract: The present article aims to explore the complexity of the representation techniques the novelist of the 18th century made use of in order to keep to a well-established code of conventions subordinated to the basic principle of verisimilitude. In addition to this, the article tries to point out the functions of the letter(s), the type of focalization and to coin a comprehensive typology of the epistolary novels.
