The creation of the angel in Jan Twardowski's poems and its reconstruction in Russian translations

Summary/Abstract: In the present article Jan Twardowski's poems are analysed alonside their Russian translations, focusing on the image of the angel. The subject matter of the works concentrates around the most important existential problems. Irrespective of the subject matter of the works, the focus on the sacrum is one of the main features of Twardowski's poetry. The analysis is situated within the investigative model of cultural linguistics, referring to the cognitive paradigm. The linguistic image of the angel is investigated in two dimensions. The angel's attributes in Polish are specified within the limits of monolingual analysis, whereas bilingual analysis shows what happens when the linguistic picture is transferred into another language, in this case Russian.
