Summary/Abstract: The editors of religious journals recurrented in their articles on certain decadent manifestations, sins and vices, which degraded man’s life and society’s life as well, taking as an example the homilies of the Three Holy Hierarchs, concentrated on the principals of Christian moral and on their application in life. The problem of alcoholism was permanent in calendars’pages, treatead from varied perspectives, but having as a single goal the public stigmatization of those possesed by this suffering. The Patriarch itself took a position in this matter.Bitterly he concluded that the number of pubs increased and he acused the authorities for bringing non-Romanian colonists (the Jewes had most pubs) to exploit the natives. Having in view that the great majority of villagers (as they were the main readers of calendars) were recently thought to read and had no experience in sophisticated readings, the editors of the calendars suggested as a main literary form the story or other literary genres inspired from the folklore.
