Summary/Abstract: The paper presents the methodology and results of the research on transformation in the spatial structure of the Polish economy taking place in the years 2003-2012, i.e. during the deepening of the integration process and implementation the cohesion policy. The research was conducted at the level of local territorial systems, i.e. the territorial units for which synthetic evaluation indicators in statistics are not developed. Using computer local data banks (BDL) published by the Central Statistical Office, multifactorial analysis and evaluation of the level of development of all the country’s cities and rural areas for the years 2003, 2008, 2010 and 2012, as well as four separate delimitation areas with different levels of development were conducted. This made it possible to determine changes within the territorial areas of relatively high, medium and low level of development (categories A, B and C) as well the development trends in the territorial structure of the economy in the analyzed ten-year period.
