Summary/Abstract: This essay elucidates some aspects concerning the research on Cyrillic and Latin sources of the orthodox (uniate) tradition and points out the need to consider these documents in the context of earlier Slovak culture and literature. This is borne out by previous field and archival research as well as by linguistic, historical, and culturological analyses of the sources. This kind of research opens up new possibilities in the process of discovering peculiarities of the Slovak national and cultural heritage, and, at the same time, contributes significantly to the interpretation of the linguistic, ethnic, and confessional relations in this area of Central Europe. This statement is based on the fact that the territory of Slovakia is, both geographically and culturally, a crossroad between East and West, North and South in the context of the Slavonic world. It it just in this area that living religious and cultural traditions of the Latin and Greek spheres come together. It is necessary to study this heritage, especially since the respective region naturally provides for ideal conditions to carry out the proposed research plans.
