Summary/Abstract: The present paper aims to analyse the relation between historical truth and propaganda in the novels written under Ceauşescu's regime about the "obsessive decade?, the first decade of communism in Romania. As a case study, we try to discover to what extent the literary image of the anti-communist fighter hiding in the mountains follows the historical truth and to what extent it is the result of the stories spread by the officers from the feared secret service "Securitate?. We also discuss the relation between defying the regime and serving the purposes of the political leader in the novels about the so-called „obsessive decade”.
