Summary/Abstract: Felix Aderca was an active publicist and writer of the Romanian inter-war period who promoted the modernist ideals and the importance of evaluating literature according to its aesthetic value and not according to other criteria such as national specificity or morality. The present paper aims to discuss this writer’s view on the universal and the national character of literature and on the necessity that national art should correspond to the movements of its age and keep its national identity at the same time.
