How to Reach Identities trough Discourses

Summary/Abstract: Paper attempts at analyzing certain discursive devices with respect to the question of how particular categories coined within a specific (say, scientific, or media discourse) get transformed into identity categories lived through in the day-to-day experience. Those categories turn into schemes of perception and self-relation if only they get practiced into close social interactions within particular social and cultural circumstances. But then – after getting successfully transformed, that is, effectuated, – they significantly mutate in meaning. That is demonstrated through an interpretation of how „labour mass“ category turns into identity category of the urban populace in the first two decades of the 20th century in Sofia, signifying, so to say the high culture of the low culture.
