Summary/Abstract: The text is based on part of the data of the empirical survey "The Image of the Balkan Neighbour in Bulgarian Teenagers' Consciousness". Of central importance for the theoretical research instruments is a "topographic model" of the Balkan interactions, where the stratum of objective distances and the stratum of discoursive distances structuring the Balkan neighbour's image are analytically distinguished. The theoretical instruments are also based on the comprehension of the Balkan space not as an autonomous field of interactions, but as a space whose symbolic centre lies outside causing chronic national identity crisis. A basic hypothesis was that due to the lack of active Balkan exchanges the very relations have fossilized into prejudicial images.
