Summary/Abstract: This article starts from the assumption that the most recent elections in Romania brought about a characteristic of governance which tends to be more inclined to the use of personal power, and less to the use of institutional power. Balancing between conceiving governance in terms of rationalized authority and/or domination, Romania`s new government, unnaturally ruled by and through the power of the head of the state, seems to be bouncing back in history, when the legitimization was founded rather on the power of charisma. In order to demonstrate this, we are going to make use of the conceptual definitions of power, governance and legitimacy for proving that Romanian politics seems to be closer to the way these three notions are internalized by totalitarian regimes, in opposition to democracies.
