Summary/Abstract: The paper presents the results of sociolinguistic research on the cultural heritage of the Bible in the phraseological fund of three Slavic languages. The subject of interest are international units – equivalent biblical phrasemes in Slovak, Czech and Russian. The focus is predominantly on: • the current state of knowledge and application of biblical phraseology in an intergenerational and interlinguistic comparison, • registration and interpretation of cognitive-pragmatic shifts in the semantic aspect of selected phrasemes, • the relationship of phrasemes to the source, including its reflection in the awareness/consciousness of language users (intuiting/awareness of the filiation of idioms with a biblical source). The results obtained by the research can be seen, on the one hand, as a contribution to the conceptualization of biblical phraseology, on the other, to confrontational phraseology in national-international relations, applying a primarily sociolinguistic and cognitive-pragmatic approach.
