Regulation of Protests in Bulgaria: Legal Aspect of the Protest on 1 December 2025

Summary/Abstract: The text examines the legal regulation of protests (as part of mass events) in Bulgaria under the Law on Assemblies, Meetings, and Demonstrations. It analyzes the case of the protest on 1 December 2025, during which the former leader of the political party We Continue the Change led a march along a route that had not been previously registered or approved. The paper discusses the legal violations involved, as well as the necessity of complying with the legislation when organizing mass events. This case is used as an example to analyze the role of the law and the oversight authorities responsible for its enforcement in regulating political activities and protecting the public interest
