Transformation of the Coat of Arms of the Bulgarian Republic. Historical and Political Analysis

Summary/Abstract: This report examines the evolution of the coat of arms of Bulgaria in the context of the historical and political transformations that the country went through after its political restoration in 1878. The analysis covers the development of this state symbol, focusing on the influence of different political regimes on its symbolism. Special attention is paid to the changes in the coat of arms during the socialist regime (1946–1990), as well as the discussions after the democratic changes of 1989. The reasons that led to the consensus for the restoration of the traditional coat of arms in 1997 and the debates that accompanied this process are examined. The report uses an interdisciplinary approach, combining historical analysis with political science research
