Summary/Abstract: The article addresses the impact of the transition to the euro currency in the Western Balkan countries, operating a transition from a planned economy to a market economy. In the aftermath of the dismantling of the Soviet bloc, the macroeconomic stabilization program in the Balkan region clashed with Slovenian and Croatian independence claims. Thus, this article will analyze the dual economic and political function of the currency in this area, then discuss the advantages and disadvantages of euroization, by studying specific cases.
