Summary/Abstract: One song - one story Denitsa Vassileva This article includes a musical and textual analysis of the world - famous song „The mountain has overturned“, performed by the folk singer Stefka Sabotinova. The song is a suitable example of how a folk melody can become a worldwide hit. There are three main factors for this: 1. The song is made up of a perfect melodic line. 2. It is performed by a wonderful, highly professional singer with a unique voice and excellent ornamental technique. 190 3. The song is backed by a professional arrangement, both for the orchestra of Bulgarian folk instruments (arranged by Philip Koutev) and with a modern disco arrangement of electronic instruments (Jacky Hanouna). The song „The mountain has overturned“ set a beginning for the development of the Bulgarian folk vocal music, which in recent years developed at a rapid pace, placing it in a position proving in an undisputed way that it is unique and one of a kind in the world in its melodics, style, ornamentation, metro-rhythmics and modal-tonal diversity.
