Summary/Abstract: At the beginning of 2021, police officers in the Czech Republic began encountering the Romanian product Efedrina Arena® 50 mg comprimate, which contains 50 mg of ephedrine per tablet, in significant amounts. This declared medicine drew attention law enforcements primarily due to its non-standard distribution volume of 1500 tablets in a single non-blister packaging. Expert examinations and processed analyses demonstrated the ease and high extractability of the active ingredient from Efedrina Arena. This is mainly achieved due to its good solubility in water and the absence of additional medicinal substances and excipients that would otherwise hinder the extraction process. By evaluating known factors, a hypothesis is presented and verified that the existence of the product Efedrina Arena was primarily predestined as a source of the precursor (ephedrine) for the illegal production of methamphetamine.
