The motivation behind this research lies in highlighting the importance of environmental taxes and research and development expenditures in protecting the environment. Additionally, the motivation of this article includes emphasizing the crucial role that a healthy environment plays in the quality of life in Romania. The results indicate that taxes and the level of research and development expenditures can substantially influence air quality, and this quality is a determining factor in people's perceptions of their health. Therefore, it is essential for government policies to coherently address these interconnected aspects and promote initiatives that encourage sustainable economic development with a focus on factors influencing individual well-being. In light of these findings, the importance of implementing integrated policy programs that facilitate the transition to a sustainable economy and ensure the improvement of quality of life for all citizens is emphasized.
