Summary/Abstract: The study examines the status of the circular economy in the European Union, with a focus on waste management and achieving the objectives set by the EU in this field. In a circular economy, the emphasis is on maintaining the value of products and materials, reducing waste, and efficiently using resources. The European Union has set ambitious objectives, some of which are challenging to meet within the established deadlines. The study compares the progress of EU member states in achieving these objectives. Countries such as Norway, Germany, and Slovenia have achieved notable recycling rates, surpassing EU targets, while countries like Romania, Malta, and Greece face challenges in meeting the imposed standards. Romania is analyzed in detail, highlighting fluctuations in the recycling rate, especially in the paper and cardboard packaging sector. The need for additional efforts to meet EU objectives is emphasized, and Norway is presented as an example of best practices, promoting a healthy lifestyle in harmony with the environment. The conclusions highlight discrepancies between EU objectives and the progress of member states, emphasizing the importance of ongoing efforts to achieve sustainability and the circular economy. Norway serves as a successful model, and Romania needs to make additional efforts to align with the EU's waste management objectives. The study underscores the necessity of a consistent global approach to transition to a circular economy
