Summary/Abstract: Legal regime of insurance means in Yugoslavia has several characteristics. Insurance means are the means in social ownership which are managed by insured persons, who are associated into an insurance community. There are several kinds of insurance means, the distinguishing point being their purpose. These are the following: means pooled by the founders into an insurance community in order to establish (found) it; prevention means; technical premiums; safety reserves; and life insurance means. Technical premiums and safety reserves may be deposited by the insurance communities at the bank for the time of their not being in effective use for meeting the obligations. An insurance community should not be entitled to determine the purpose of means deposited at the bank. Technical means of insurance are integral in the function of serving the insured persons, regardless of internal self-management and organisational structure of the insurance community. The purpose of pooling of means into an insurance community is to ensure adequate protection according to the principles of mutuality and solidarity, so that the insured persons pool these means without the right of refund.
