The analysis presented in this paper pertains to concepts constituting basic domains, such as time, space, temperature, colour or taste. The subject of analysis are conceptualizations which can arise during the processing of the afore mentioned concepts in the context of the domains themselves as well as of the expressions in which the concepts are contained. The aim of the analysis is to answer the question as to whether all the analysed domains are of homogenous nature or maybe there exist some processual differences between them, and if so, what they are.

Urs Faes in his literary work deals with the analysis of the history of his country and his own past. Memories are the main driving force of his work, therefore he focuses on the phenomenon of memory and its functions in relation to the literary possibilities. The key task of the author is to look at the facade of everyday life and indicate what actually lies behind the normality and order. In this way, he discovers repressed memories, unfulfilled longings, unresolved guilt and escape from the existential shocks. This article is based on his four novels „Sommerwende“, „Augenblicke im Paradies“, „Und Ruth“ and „Liebesarchiv“ which could be called a tetralogy. It is an attempt to characterize typical features of the poetics written by this Swiss author

Nautical dictionaries in the period of Enlightenment have significantly contributed to the spread of maritime terminology in the society. For example the multilingual dictionary „Allgemeines Wörterbuches der Marine“ by Johann Hinrich Roding contains approximately 5000 lexicographic entries - including 106 phrasemes used by sailors, shipbuilders or waterfront workers. The aim of this article is to answer following questions: What kind of phrasemes from which subject areas are included in this work? How important are the phrasemes in the macro- and microstructure of the dictionary? How does the author describe and explain their meaning? And finally - are these expressions still used in the contemporary German language or to what extent did the technological and social transformations cause their decline?

This article is devoted to three works by Austrian Nobel prize winner Elfriede Jelinek which deal with the contemporary economic crisis and with the mechanisms of financial economics. The analysis presented focuses mainly on the immaterial and unreal nature of today's market whose essence and methods of operating is reminiscent of a spectre. This immaterial aspect of the economic and financial system is demon strated on the example of an ambiguous and ambivalent language employed by Jelinek and in the fictionalization processes and disappearance of references, which are characteristic of market functioning. The works analysed also point out to human apparitions, or social outcasts (Z. Bauman's Wasted Lives) as effects of the spectres of financial capitalism. Deprived of money and property, they fight for survival as underdogs

The dictionary of loan words of Friedrich Erdmann Petri had its first edition in 1806, and in 1929 appeared the 42nd edition. The dictionary contains grammatical, etymological, semantic description but it also suggests indigenous word equivalents to eliminate loan words - and so it belongs to the descriptive-germanising lexicographic works. A lot of foreign words listed in this dictionary are not used in present German.

The article was dedicated to three novels by Swiss author Urs Widmer: „Der Geliebte der Mutter“ (“My Mother's Lover”), Das Buch des Voters (“My Father's Book”) and “Ein Leben als Zwerg” (“Life as a Dwarf”), which - although they could also be read separately - form a family trilogy because all three depict the lives of the members of the same Swiss Family. However, their diverse passions are in the foreground and have a decisive influence over the life of the title characters. The books can also be referred as a 'trilogy of passions'. The article characterize precisely these passions as well as their negative or positive impact on the protagonists. At the same time, it refers to a variety of works of music and literature which relates and reflects each of those main passions in different ways. On the one hand, we consider the autobiographical background of the first two novels. On the other hand, the importance of fiction is highlighted in the third novel and was conceived as a fitting counterpart to the two earlier novels.

This article tackles the topic of regional myths at the turn of the 20th century in the Pomeranian region as found - or not - in literary works written at the time in that region. The author analyzes three examples of myths: two of them are traditional elements of the Pomeranian cultural heritage, as shaped around 1900; the third is a failed attempt to create a local (Szczecin) myth at the turn of the 20th century and the following years. The analyzed texts were published in books and elsewhere (e. g. on postcards) or could be found as anonymous pieces, saved in handwritten copies.

The paper is an attempt for a complex interpretation of Thomas Glavinic's novel „Der Kameramörder“. The murder of two children depicted in there impresses with signs of violence and cruelty, while author's beloved persuasive figures are irritation and absurd intensifying of suspense. The paper is composed of two parts. In the first of them the priority is given to a traditional interpretation which suggests itself at once, a pure literary one, where emphasis is put on language. In the second part an alternative interpretation is underlined: despite the apparent suggestions of the plot the narrator wasn't the perpetrator but one of many possible offenders. Thus the weight of interpretation is moved towards medial and social aspects.

The aim of the article entitled “Between memory and self-formation: about familiar identity in Tra due mari [Between Two Seas] by Carmine Abate” is to explore the motif of familiar identity in the above-mentioned novel. The article is divided into four parts, the main two being devoted to identity in the light of the role of memory and self-formation. Regarded as one of the most famous Italian contemporary writers, in 2012 Abate received Italy’s Campiello Prize for his novel La collina del vento [The Windy Hill]. It is worth noting that in his fiction Abate explores many aspects that are typical of migrant literature such as the journey motif, linguistic barriers, and, above all, a feeling of non- -belonging to the host culture. Delineating in Tra due mari the story of the Bellusci family, the author presents the influence that the past and self- formation has on identity.

The subject of mental troubles and diseases, often covered by the common term of ‘neurosis’, occurs in the literature of all times. The portraits of characters showing various kinds of neurotic behaviour differ according to the aesthetics of the period of their creation. The paper shows two opposite ways of perceiving neurosis in the 19th century, characteristic for the Romanticism and the Naturalism. The portrait of a romantic hero, “hallucinated”, gloomy and melancholic, suffering from a couple of mysterious symptoms leading unavoidably to death, should touch or even frighten the reader. It is opposed to a “clinical” vision of neurosis as a pathological condition of the organism. A consequence of the postulate of objectivity and scientific truth involved by the Naturalism is a medical-report-like description of a “human animal” while ill.

The subject of this thesis concerns the surnames of Jews in Prussia from Ernst G. Lowenthal‘s publication entitled Juden in Preußen. Biographisches Verzeichnis. In this publication, an attempt was made to present the profile of the working population (lawyers, doctors, educators, scientists, entrepreneurs, film directors, directors of theatres, bankers, politicians, writers, etc.) in Prussia from 1780 to approximately 1930. The purpose of my article was to perform an etymological and structural analysis of the selected group of the discussed names. The discussed names have been classified into four groups. In the analyzed corpus there are many multi-motivational names. As far as their etymology is concerned, one may note the influence of German and Hebrew as well as Slavic languages.
