The dictionary of Petri (1806-1929) - a succesful lexicographic work

Summary/Abstract: The dictionary of loan words of Friedrich Erdmann Petri had its first edition in 1806, and in 1929 appeared the 42nd edition. The dictionary contains grammatical, etymological, semantic description but it also suggests indigenous word equivalents to eliminate loan words - and so it belongs to the descriptive-germanising lexicographic works. A lot of foreign words listed in this dictionary are not used in present German.
