Trei documente privind contribuţia lui Ioan Dimitrie Suciu la reorganizarea revistei ,,Luceafărul” şi a înfiinţării editurii...

Author(s): Silviu Mureşan / Language(s): Issue: 5/2015

In this study, we aim to present three documents that elaborate on the contribution of Ioan Dimitrie Suciu regarding the reorganisation of the „Luceafarul” review and the establishment of the Astra Bănăţeană printing house. The three documents published here show us the troubles of an intellectual elite that wanted to solve some of the cultural issues that the Banat region was suffering at that time. Regarding the contribution of Ioan Dimitrie Suciu, his role was a significant one, where he benefited a number of advantages as an active member of the review and printing house. First, as a student, he had the opportunity to meet more experienced other members who gave him advice or supported and encouraged him in his historical research. Another benefit was his direct correspondence with the President of Astra, Sabin Evuţian, or with the experienced historian Traian Toplicenu. Related to his activity from the journal, even though the number of his studies were not so numerous, his collabortion was paid, and also the editing of the Literature from Banat synthesis, brought him a wide recognition in intellectual circles in the province and capital, his work being widely appreciated even by Nicolae Iorga.

Author(s): Adina Elena Şerban / Language(s): Issue: 5/2015

The attitude of Pope Pius XII towards the ,,Jewish Problem” during the Second World War was and still remains a controversial subject. By presenting a series of events when, with the encouragement and support of Pope Pius XII, Catholic churchmen and institutions saved a considerable number of Jews, this paper aims to remove the negative image that has been built around the Pope. Moreover, our main argument is that taking in account that every time Nazism was attacked or condemned, the National Socialists responded by retaliation, Pope Pius shall not be accused of silence and indifference. We think that refraining from taking a public stand against the Nazi regime and its persecutions was a clever strategy of Pope Pius XII, who succeeded to save 860,000 Jewish lives.

Jocurile video și transmedialitatea. O analiză a modelelor, reperelor și practicilor actuale

Author(s): Tulia Maria Căşvean / Language(s): Issue: 5/2015

Representative for the entertainment, depicted by Gilles Lipovetsky as „industries dedicated to leisure” that „improve the participatory and emotional dimension of the consumption”, and for popular culture, video games valorize plenty of the contemporary cultures elements and forms. Being embraced more and more into the everyday life, especially for the digitally native generation, the video games mirror the contemporary social context, approaching social or societal topicsout of the day-by-day life (The Sims, Tax Invaders, Peacemaker, Ai draci). As cinema or television, the video games take from and give to other media sources content, heroes, pre-worked models, stereotypes and myths, or their mechanics and structure. The objective of research is to find out those specific elements of transmediality that can be identified with video games or coming from video games. The current paper critically analyzes the literature and embraces professionals’ opinion (game developers and narrative designers).

Perspectivă empirică de abordare a comunicării

Perspectivă empirică de abordare a comunicării

Author(s): Merima Carmen Petrovici / Language(s): Issue: 5/2015

By nature, man is a communicative being, hungry for knowledge. His wish to answer the questions What is knowledge?; What is scientific knowledge?; How can scientific knowledge be made possible? resulted in the appearance of two branches of science or philosophy: gnoseology and epistemology. Both are thories of knowledge but epistemology has scientific knowledge as a specific trait and also as a field of activity. The elements differentiating between the two theories of knowledge are the methods, that for communication can be defined as a system of rules, principles of knowledge and transformation of objective reality. This paper aims at highlighting the importance of empirical methods in the study of communication and with it the importance of experience in and for the didactic communication.

Perspective asupra organizării statului în gândirea legionară. Studiu de caz: ,,Axa. Publicaţie bilunară politică, artistică, literară”

Author(s): Răzvan Ciobanu / Language(s): Issue: 5/2015

Throughout the second half of the interwar period, the Iron Guard saw a steady increase in popularity, an expanding influence that reflected into its constant gain in membership. Willing to take advantage of the momentum, the movement developed a complex network of publications of various sizes and purposes, in an attempt to effectively communicate its creed to the masses. With its ideologically rich content and the wide range of topics its limited number of issues encompassed, Axa became one of the most relevant such means of expression. It engaged both high-ranking members of the Iron Guard and young intellectuals with close ties to the movement in debates concerning concepts that were fundamental to the worldview of the Romanian far-right, such as the relationship between nation and state, the imminent decay of democracy and the unstoppable rise of totalitarianism, the new order latter envisioned, the status of ethnic minorities etc. This article aims to point out how some of the aforementioned concepts were understood and formulated by the Legionary elite, implicitly proving the importance of Axa for the ideology of the Iron Guard as a whole.

Author(s): Iuliu-Marius Morariu / Language(s): Issue: 5/2015

Leon Daniello (1898-1970), the first pneumoftiziologist from Romania (became a proffessor in this domain in 1942 and the Director of the Romanian Institute for Pneumoftiziology from Cluj-Napoca in 1949), was a personality less highlighted by contemporary historiography. This is the reason why this paper analyses his medical and scientific activity from the Eugenic and biopholitic Review, published in Cluj-Napoca between 1927-1947, which represented an essentialmilestone for the Romanian eugenistic movement. His main concerns regarded the issue of tuberculosis on one hand (out of 17 studies published by him during the highlighted period, 11 are exclusively dedicated to this subject, while the other 6 make constant references to it), while also reffering to other important social maladies from Transylvania on the other. This paper is the first biographical writing dedicated to Leon Daniello and his activity, bringing forward the image of one correspondent member of Romanian Academy.

Author(s): Sorin Ovidiu Bulboacă / Language(s): Issue: 5/2015

Every Catholic and Orthodox Church, each parish had a ,,mercy box” in which the faithful would put money every Sunday for poor maintenance and for those who could not work, being sick or infirm. In medieval times, assistance and protection were provided essentially by the Church and the poor image of Christ has been considered as a cred character. The Medieval Catholic brotherhoods, with the collective exercise of religious rites, formed around an altar under the protection of a saint, acquired charitable indisputable merits. These social events were a part of the exercise of religious acts, but were not their main purpose. The Catholic confraternities offered citizens safety and mutual aid for sick, poor, pilgrims, prisoners. Between 1250 and 1500, the Catholic brotherhoods transformed the cities in the West, becoming popular because they offered their members a wider social environment and social protection: by helping the poor fellow, financial ending policy or by obtaining a cashier in a hospital bed used (or not) by the same religious group. Also these Catholic brotherhoods provided aid for needy and sick brethren, funeral assistance, including financial aid for relatives of those who passed on. In Transylvania, an important role in social welfare where the Catholic brotherhoods had, were in cities as Sibiu, Braşov, Cluj, Sighişoara, Bistriţa, Mediaş, etc. Another important action that the Medieval Catholic brotherhoods members tried to became a link that would unite all Christians, based on solidarity. The Brotherhood of Corpus Christi in Sibiu (14th-16th centuries) performed funeral rituals for the poor and needy from the city as well as for aliens who happened to succumb in Sibiu, with the same solemnity that was given to deceased brotherhood members, at its expense.

Alba-Iulia în timpul revoluţiei de la 1848-1849

Author(s): Andrei Sabin Faur / Language(s): Issue: 5/2015

In our study, we propose to present the role of the Alba-Iulia fortress during the revolution of 1848-1849, when it served as one of the most important military targets of the Habsburgs in Transylvania. The innovations of our approach are based on the gathered information from the volumes of documents on the history of the Transylvanian Revolution related to the role of the garrison in Alba-Iulia, as well as a gold and silver depot and silver, during the summer of 1848. Those reserves, along with the Vauban type fortifications and the strategic positioning led to the commencement of the siege upon the Fort by the Hungarian revolutionary army between April and July of 1849, a very important operation that was essential to the outcome of the entire campaign in Transylvania.
