The article gives the in-deep analyses of the European Commissions Green Paper – Less bureaucracy for citizens, particularly in connection with the harmonisation of certain aspects of Member States family law. It deals with the main means proposed in the Green Paper e.g. the abolition of administrative formalities for the authentication of public documents, cooperation between the competent national authorities, limiting translations of public documents, the European civil status certificate, mutual recognition of the effect of civil status records.
