Рецензия на критиката на чистия разум (1781)

Author(s): Johann Georg Hamann / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 1/2018

In this short review of Immanuel Kant’s First Critique, the author Johann Georg Hamann (a friend, co-worker and even opponent of Kant) offers a synopsis related to the fundamental theses of the transcendental criticism of reason (a new approach in those days) while paying explicit attention to the supposedly common root of origin of the varieties of human knowledge and on some basic architectonic distinctions within Kant’s system as well.

Онтологически и логически проекции на Лайбницовия Закон за достатъчното основание

Author(s): Silviya Kristeva / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 1/2018

In the present paper we will systematize the theoretical premises and the deducing of Leibniz’s Principle of Sufficient Reason, as well as will examine its potential as generally valid law of thought and knowledge. Initially, the ontological bases of PSR must be delineated: the structure of existence, the defining of the “individual substance”, the Law of Continuity, which leads to the “ultimate ground” and from here to the concept of the “choice” of the supreme substance. We will analyze the formulations of PSR, which Leibniz gives in Monadologie and in his letters. In order to form the entire logical potential of PSR, we will look for its general parameters in Kant’s concept of thoroughgoing determination and in Hegel’s projection of the ground with its structure and with the interesting formula of the “complete ground”. All this leads to the perspective of discovering the total range of PSR, as founded and formulated by Leibniz, and gives us the opportunity to consider its new formulation related to the ground, which is completed in absolute sense with all its parameters.

Екзистенциали на граничността – Хайдегер и Маркузе

Author(s): Aneta Tumbeva / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 1/2018

Existentials of boundary are the dimensions of the human Being-in-the-world with the Others and the loss of Selfhood under the influence of the Others. The article presents the ontological interpretation of the world in Being and time by Martin Heidegger through Dasein in his everyday being and one-dimensional existence in The One-Dimensional Man by Herbert Marcuse. The comparative analysis examines:– Everyday Being by Dasein which is revealed through das Man as a possible way of Being-with;– the worldhood of the world moving through the eyes of the whole phenomenon Being-in-the-world;– the one-dimensional man presented in the context of historical objectivity, subjected to material satisfaction partially deprived of the freedom of choice;– the sameness, the overcrowdedness, the loss of oneself, represented by the concepts of das Man and one-dimensional man.

Логическият анализ на езика: Бъртранд Ръсел (1896 – 1911)

Author(s): Kamen Lozev / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 1/2018

The paper surveys the key moments and the most important philosophical positions defended by Russell on the issues of analysis during the years 1896 – 1911. The dramatic changes of his thinking and attitudes are illustrated with emblematic paradoxes and difficulties on his way from Absolute idealism through Platonic realism to Logical realism. Considerable emphasis is put on Russell’s celebrated On Denoting, 1905, as a classical example of employment of logical resources to the analysis of language to eliminate putative denoting phrases which denote nothing.

В обувките на дете

Author(s): Hristo Simeonov / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 1/2018

What is the power of the child streaming from the silver screen due to and what can the adult viewers learn from it? In other words, where does the magnetic power shared by children and cinema come from? Not every child was born to be an actor, indeed. The process of searching for the right child for a role is often much harder than looking for the right professional actor. The script in already front of us on the table and there is a child character or several ones in it, so we can ask ourselves some important questions, regarding the text: How well conceived and written is the character? Are the behavior, the relationships and the sensitivity of the child character adequate to what is happening to him/her during the story? And maybe the most important: Do we have enough information and experience with children at that age? From the director’s and the casting’s viewpoints, the profound study of the relationship between age and self-awareness in the context of the personality of the character and the one of the actor, is of great importance, especially when it comes to children.

Онтологично обосноваване на „съществуването“

Author(s): Georgi Donev / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 2/2018

The goal of this article is to ground the ontologization of the logical subjectivity of philosophical thinking. The arguments for the thesis that “existence” is equivalent to the logical subjectivity of thinking in phenomenological form, defined by transcendental logical language, are shown. Ontology is a system of transcendental languages. The principle of every transcendental language is an introduction of the a priori logical relativity in the construction of possible phenomenological models of “existence”. The logical relativity does not allow the thinking of logical subjectivity, which has ontic genesis. The transcendental language constructs in ontological form the logical subjectivity, as well as eliminates a priori the logical contradiction, from which follows the destruction of language. Ontology understood as transcendental language is relative topology which determines a priori the logical topos of the possible logical subjectivity of consciousness.

Светът на Овидий в сборника с елегии Tristia

Author(s): Dimitar Mirchev / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 2/2018

We know Ovid as “tenerorum lusor amorum” – as how he defines himself. In Amores Ovid chants his beloved Corina. He is glad when his beloved answers to his feelings, suffers from her treason, longs to see her when they are separated. What happens to “the singer of gentle love” in time then? What is the reason for his sadness? The sadness is so strong that he calls his elegiac collection – Tristia. The exile to Tomis overwhelms his whole life. In 8 AD. Principe Octavian August punishes Ovid, sending him to exile in Tomis on the Black Sea coast. The reason for the punishment according to Ovid is “poetry and a mistake”.

Фридрих Ницше – новата религия на метафизическия нихилизъм

Author(s): Rosen Rachev / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 3/2018

Human life is an endless sequence of problem situations and ways to overcome them. Friedrich Nietzsche proclaims doubt and nihilism as forms of existence in problem situation. They are the foundation of the „reassessment of all values“. This reassessment is oriented to traditional, approved and wide spread principles and norms in society. The skepticism is an initial position and a transitional stage of denial. If someone denies something without thinking of it, he acts emotionally. Friedrich Nietzsche is a nihilist because his attitude is based on doubts, which are rationally motivated. In this paper the arguments are derived from his books “Thus Spoke Zarathustra”, “The Antichrist” and “Twilight of the Idols”.

За реалността и посоките във времесъзнанието (Част 1)

Author(s): Kosta Bentchev / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 3/2018

This article raises the question concerning the reality of time through the concepts of cyclic vs. linear movement. These concepts are supposed to ground the basic dichotomy that is carried out as an analysis of time-consciousness. So called “segments” of time – past, present and future, are characterized as modalities (necessity, actuality, possibility, contingency) which in their turn are being interpreted as different kinds of parts within some broader complexes that comprise relations between the categories of the similarity and the difference. From this view-point, certain critical remarks are mentioned against the concept of time as being something of a substantial nature while moving from the past through the present and towards the future. At the end of the paper, the question concerning time is related to the traditional themes of Western metaphysics. They are assessed as having their origin in the position rooted in the opposition between continuum and discreteness. This final dichotomy is presented as what has been intended from the very beginning of the exposition under the guise of the initial dichotomy concerning the opposition of cyclic vs. linear movement.

За природата на отношението: Ръселовият реализъм и възможността за експликация на логическата форма

Author(s): Denitsa Zhelyazkova / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 3/2018

The article views the different way that Russell understands the point of attitude in 1903 in Principles of Mathematics and 1913 in the unpublished handwriting Theory of knowledge. Around 1903, the philosopher thinks that aRb and bR’a are two separate propositions, between which there is a visible difference in the meaning. In 1913 he denies his earlier point about the points being two. Russell does not hesitate to declare that the aRb is a single fact and it doesn’t matter if we’ll present it from a to b or from b to a, it’s just a language matter. The goal of the text is to express the motives and influences that provoke the british philosopher to give different answers in both of his texts and the consequences to which those answers lead. My purpose is to lighten the problems that Russell’s philosophical logic generates where most important are the ones about logical form, the conclusion and the affirmation.

История на човешката еволюция (част 2)

Author(s): Kiril Petrov / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 3/2018

The present work is an attempt to broaden the biography of the autonomous individual. Contrary to the conception of the inborn sociality of a person that deprives him of his uniqueness and refuted by various manifestations of mental disorders, the idea of an individual way of life could explain some contradictions and paradoxes in his behavior. Being alone in nature and without physical contact with similar individuals, he had not only to develop and improve his sensitivity and the way of perceiving reality, but also to change the metabolism of his own organism. Losing instincts by changing connections with reality, he manages to turn objects into a source of information, providing him certain and safe means of survival. That information will became his personal environment unattainable for animals. An environment, which purpose is to function as an untouchable, invisible „territory“, i.e. as a consciousness.

Data vs. Information

Author(s): Mihaela MALITA,Gheorghe M. Ştefan / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2018

Big Data technologies are about how to extract information from the rough data. The intermediate stage is represented by preprocessed data. But, even from preprocessed data to information the way is long and complex. First of all, we must understand what information means. There is no widely accepted definition for information. By proposing and using a working definition for the concept of information, we present the main techniques involved on the way from the rough data to the useful information. How the information is generated, extracted and how it emerges is shortly introduced. The role played by information in the knowledge process leads to the way information, as structure acting by its meaning, must reconsider the philosophical approach of existence.

Sporul în cunoaşterea ştiinţifică – o cronică a eforturilor şi rezultatelor?

Author(s): Henrieta Anișoara Șerban / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 1/2018

The growth of scientific knowledge should be investigated from the perspective of the philosophy of science and not merely from the perspective of the concrete results, registered by the history of science. From this hypothesis, the paper identifies key ideas and arguments (selected mainly from Thomas Kuhn and Karl Popper) for a more accurate description and understanding of the growth of scientific knowledge starting from a distinction of the perspectives brought about by philosophy of science and, respectively, by history of science in what concerns the growth of scientific knowledge. The role of theory and practice in the growth of knowledge is also evaluated. Implicitly, this distinction involves also a distinction of the abstract, conceptual and qualitative aspects, different from the quantitative ones, (intuitively) associated with the specific of scientific knowledge and with that of the growth of scientific knowledge.

What does a new scientific spirit mean? Bachelard from the thirties of the last century and the science of our days

Author(s): Ana Bazac / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2017

My paper relates Bachelard’s main epistemological thesis –the new scientific spirit–in the 30s and some present tendencies in science. In its “Noumène et microphysique”, from 1931, Bachelard reveals a revolutionary change in the 20th century natural science: the definite proof of insufficiency of the traditional pattern of experimental physics of macro-bodies and searching for observable causes – where the starting point of the research was the empirical observation, where the end was to measure the material elements and the values of movements, where the pattern of decomposition were the object and at the same time the aim of researchers –to a complex “intellectualist” model where the most important moments of the research are the (new) theories/new conjectures which no longer assume the logic of isolating the phenomena from their context, where these phenomena are rather relations and effects than material particles, and where the scientific theory follows just the relations and effects which constitute the new objects, and not so much the material objects as such as in the Newtonian science. And: where the understanding of this relational reality is the result of mathematical forms which are not a simple calculus of visible phenomena, but expressions of the internal deep constitution and laws of existence. In this new type of research, the empirical observation is only a starting point and a moment between the theoretical construction and its mathematical clearer manifestation and proof back and forth. All these elements are developed by Bachelard and are considered here as a mirror (or, rather, a beacon, or, not in a metaphorical language, a criterion) for the present epistemology as this one is visible in some aspects focused on by the present sciences.Indeed, nowadays – and in the trail of Bachelard – and though there is an inertial tendency to put only physics at the origin of the scientific knowledge of the world (and in this sense, to confront the classical model of Newton and Einstein physics), epistemology considers at least three aspects configuring the scientific outlook and, perhaps, world-view: the sciences of the living, givingusnew ways of understanding, including the inanimate material logic, as well as its qualitative progress; the inter and trans-disciplinary relations of the scientific steps, givingnew realms of the world; the holistic approach as methodology and (practical/technological) representation of the world. Therefore, the evolutionary epistemology – whose early representative was Bachelard –allows us to use the same comparative pattern, but concerning a broader space and leading to more refined perspectives about the world.

Love Strong as Death: Towards Another Finitude

Author(s): Agata Bielik-Robson / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2017

The essay focuses on love as a characteristic marker of a finite existence and its inherent relationship with others. Against the thanatophilic thought of Martin Heidegger, who defined human life as being-towards-death, the author would like to develop a philosophy of love which is, at the same time, an alternative philosophy of finitude. In order to do so, she evokes the Jewish concept of ahava which cannot be reduced either to the Greek sublimatory eros or the Christian agape. The author understands ahava as a way in which finite contingent life says yes to itself as a life, and not as a short-lasting moment of being, dead the very moment it gets born (as in Schopenhauer.s famous pun: natus est denatus). She also claims that there is a specifically Jewish conception of the love of the neighbour, which cannot be conflated with the Christian one and which implies its own rendering of both ‘love’, constituting an alternative to death, and ‘the neighbour’, constituting the truly singular other.
