Lütfi Paşa’nın Asafname’si Üzerine İktidarın Denetimi Bağlamında Söylem Çözümlemesi

Lütfi Paşa’nın Asafname’si Üzerine İktidarın Denetimi Bağlamında Söylem Çözümlemesi

Author(s): İnan Gümüş / Language(s): Turkish Issue: 62/2019

Siyasatnama is a literary type that is written on the corruptions and chaos in the order of the states and societies. In this regard, the writing of siyasatnama is observed to increase in the breaking point of the states and societies. Therefore, the siyasatnama should be evaluated not only in terms of the works consisting of advice and recommendations to the government leaders, but also the functional aspects and ability to find a solution for the major matters in the states and societies. The function of finding a solution depends on the siyasetnama. While certain siyasatnama function as reform books by determining the matters with the feature of directly providing solution, other siyasatnama also emphasizes the aspect to find a solution and to utter indirectly with the theoretical knowledge, and stories and anecdotes sophisticated advice. Since Lütfi Pasha worked as a grand vizier in 16th century, he chose to write siyasatnama in order to find solutions and to hinder the matters by observing closely the administrative and social matters. On the purpose of advising his following leaders and removing the troubles seen in the state government and society, he wrote his work called Asafname. In the research, supervision matter, one of the ways used by the power to achieve legitimacy, will be dealt referring to Asafname within the scope attached to the power conception systematized by Michel Foucault, and the functioning of supervision will be examined in terms of an approach problematizing the power phenomenon by using discourse analysis.

Моделът на жената обект в кинематографичния и в литературния жанр ноар

Author(s): Martina Nedyalkova / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 20/2018

This paper aims to present a theoretical model of the process of female objectification in film noir and attempt to apply the same (despite its singularity) to several works of fiction in two artistic fields, i.e. cinema and literature. Based upon the theoretical framework of feminist film critic, Laura Mulvey, the model lists some of the factors contributing to the placement of “woman” at the other end of a binary opposition with “man” (the protagonist) and goes on to explore two possible case scenarios for the process of female objectification in the noir genre. Making use of Freudian and Lacanian psychoanalytic terms and concepts, the proposed model examines 1) the acts of active and narcissistic scopophilia as normal byproducts of the process of viewing a motion picture; as well as 2) the occurrence of a fetishistic or voyeuristic inclination as the result of an activated castration complex in the face of the protagonist, and hence – the viewer. In the final, analytical part of this study the model is put to the test against two works of literary fiction, namely Cornell Woolrich’s short story “It Had to Be Murder” and Edogawa Ranpo’s novel “Black Lizzard”, and their respective film renderings by directors Alfred Hitchcock and Fukasaku Kinji. Some preliminary conclusions are made with regard to the applicability of a singular theoretical model to a number of artistic works of the same genre.

A „Stirring” fogalma a 14. századi The Cloud of Unknowing című műben és annak két magyar fordítási kísérlete

A „Stirring” fogalma a 14. századi The Cloud of Unknowing című műben és annak két magyar fordítási kísérlete

Author(s): Tibor Fabiny / Language(s): Hungarian Issue: 3-4/2011

The practical spiritual guidebook The Cloud of Unknowing was written in the latter half of the 14th century by an anonymous English monk who counselled a young student to seek God not through knowledge but through what he speaks of as a “naked intent” and a “blind love” which the author calls “stirring.” The paper studies the shades meaning of this term which occurs more than sixty times in the mystical treatise. The author of The Cloud wrote some further treatises, one of them entitled A Pistle of Discretcioun of Stirings where he paternally warns his ‘goostly freend in God’ of the possible double provenance of stirrings. Following Richard of St. Victor, he makes the distinction of “two mights” in a man’s soul: “reason” and “affection:” “through reason we know, and through affection we feel or love.” A strikingly similar distinction is made between “the two faculties” in Jonathan Edwards’ A Treatise on Religious Affections (1746) where the American author calls the first (rational) faculty “understanding,” and the one which has to do with the inclination of the heart, “affection.” This latter faculty is translated into Hungarian as “indulat.” Our anatomy of various connotations of “stirring” is substantiated by strutinizing the modern English translation of The Cloud by Clifton Wolters (1961) and two Hungarian translations, one by László Lukács (1987) and the other by Gábor Losonci (1994). Losonci found the brilliant Hungarian word „moccanás” which best corresponds to the original “stirring.” The translator uses this almost as frequently as the original author uses “stirring.” However, at the end of the Hungarian translation of The Cloud Losonci uses “indulat” rather than “moccanás,” which is not entirely consequent to his otherwise faithful project. Nevertheless, this solution supports our thesis, namely, that “moccanás” and “indulat,” i. e. “stirring” and “affection” are ultimately one.

The Other, as an independent and neutral existence, in essence constitutes the purest and most important conceivable form of disparity. In the absence of this, they interfere with the conjunctive forms of the enemy, the foreigner, and the stranger. A national literature can impact the emancipation of its own public only if it succeeds in overcoming unconventional non-conformational appearances and stabilize a certain perception of the other such as a person. We will try to sketch such a phenomenology, in two directions: in relation to the narrator and the internal relation between the characters.Phenomenology will have a critical perspective, based on the premise that the presence of the other in itself, in the Albanian literature is deficient.

Legends are among the leading elements of cultural heritage for any civilization. They offer valuable insights into the daily outlook and beliefs of the people, politics and much more in the domains of sociological analysis of human societies. Legends also often contain references to elements of gastronomy, and thus provide clues about the food and beverages habits of the nation. This study focuses on the gastronomic identity of Ancient Greece, with reference to three major elements: the history of some of the leading characteristics of the first class restaurants of today, with a perspective dating back to ancient Greece with specific references to Homer‟s Odyssey; the relationship between civilization and gastronomy; and the examples of gastronomic activities of the era, such as ceremonies and feasts.

What is going on when the metaphor which leads to the notion of transfer, and which can cause problems during its translation, is transferred from text to screen? In this article we shall dwell on the question of the film adaptation of the metaphor by focusing on the case of Anna Karénine's death metaphorically presented in Tolstoy's novel. [This article resumes the conclusions resulting from the analysis of several films within the framework of the Master's degree research thesis.] Also to illustrate our reflection, we shall concentrate on the analysis of a sequence of the film based on Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina, by Bernard Rose, staging Anna Karénine's death.

Semantyka ciszy w Pieśni o Bogu ukrytym Karola Wojtyły. Rekonesans

Author(s): Zofia Zarębianka / Language(s): Polish Issue: 1/2019

The article comprises an attempt at tracing the ways in which Karol Wojtyła evoked the quality of silence in his poems. The main thesis of the author is that silence plays a fundamental role in the structure of poems by Wojtyła. The first part of the considerations embraces a general theoretical analysis of the categories of ‘silence’ and ‘not speaking,’ as well as examples of artistic solutions employed in this respect by Polish poets (Czesław Miłosz, Józef Czechowicz, and Anna Kamieńska) in the twentieth century. The second part of the considerations comprises a review of the ways the effect of silence is accomplished in poems by Wojtyła. The structural, semantic, imaginative and symbolic levels, on which silence is evoked in Wojtyła’s poems, are identified.

Zgłębianie Rosji św. Matki Marii (Skobcowej) w świetle aktualnych problemów emigrantologii

Author(s): Grzegorz Ojcewicz / Language(s): Polish Issue: XXIV/2019

In this publication I discuss a 1927 article written by Elizaveta Skobtsova in which she pro-vided her programme of immediate and long-term remedial actions to be taken urgently by the Russian emigration community in order to mentally prepare for the fight against the evil residing at the Kremlin in Moscow. The author established specific initiatives, suggested their respective performers and deadlines. Some actions were meant to be taken individually, while others required organisational support in the form of seminar discussion groups. First as Elizaveta Skobtsova and later as Mother Maria, by means of setting her own example the Paris nun proved the accuracy of her attitude and the aptness of her assessment of the historical, political and religious situation of those days.

A szabadság elvesztése a szocializmusban – a három kísértés problematikája Bergyajevnél

Author(s): Anna Aliz Pokorni / Language(s): Hungarian Issue: 2/2019

The story of The Grand Inquisitor is where, according to Berdyaev, the idea of a government that aims to replace religion starts to take shape. Th ose in power claim that only they hold the key to true happiness. However, their tutelage over the citizens is combined with a sense of superiority. In exchange for the care they provide, they expect individuals to abandon their freedom, although the happiness off ered in return is a childish one: without freedom, individuals lose all that defines them. A government that advertises obligatory and compulsory happiness for everyone in fact promotes the rejection of personality and freedom. To Berdyaev, socialism is realised through the activity of countless petty inquisitors, and through the acceptance of the three temptations and their consequences.

LES ADAPTATIONS MÉLODRAMATIQUES DES ROMANS DE FRANÇOIS GUILLAUME DUCRAYDUMINIL

LES ADAPTATIONS MÉLODRAMATIQUES DES ROMANS DE FRANÇOIS GUILLAUME DUCRAYDUMINIL

Author(s): Łukasz Szkopiński / Language(s): French Issue: 4/2018

The aim of the present paper is to examine the relations between the novels, published by François Guillaume Ducray-Duminil (1761–1819), and their melodramatic adaptations, w ith a particular emphasis being set on the works of René-Charles Guilbert de Pixerécourt (1773–1844). After comparing fragments of the novels with certain extracts of the melodramas, the article focuses on the similarities between the two sets of texts as well as on Ducray-Duminil’s attitude towards the fact that countless playwrights used to draw on his works in order to create their melodramas. The paper concludes with a short analysis of reasons why Ducray-Duminil’s novels were so popular amongst the dramatic writers of his times.

PLUSKVAMPERFEKAT U SRPSKOM PREVODU ROMANA SORSTALANSÁG IMREA KERTESA

Author(s): Dušanka Zvekić Dušanović / Language(s): Serbian Issue: 1/2019

The novel Sorstalanság by the Hungarian Nobel Prize winner Imre Kertes was translated into the Serbian language by the translator and author Aleksandar Tišma. Looking at Tišma's translation procedures, it is not difficult to notice how he cleverly uses various narrative means that are available to him in the Serbian language. The focus of this paper is on the use of the pluperfect in the translation of this novel into the Serbian language. The pluperfect is a verb form that, in its basic sense, refers to an action or situation at a time earlier than a time in the past already referred to. The Hungarian language does not have a verb form that has such a specified meaning and therefore it was necessary to investigate which means served as a signal to Tišma to use the pluperfect. In the first place, as the number of examples shows, the signals of anteriority in the original are temporal adjuncts among which the most frequent is már (= već). The meaning of the anteriority of a past action in relation to another past action is often seen within complex and compound sentences, of which temporal, causal and coordinate ones are recorded with a large number of examples. In a significant number of examples, Tišma uses a passive structure with a passive participle as the equivalent of Hungarian constructions which also have a passive meaning or the meaning of a generalized agent. The relatively high frequency of the pluperfect in the translation is certainly conditioned by the narrative nature of the original text and the fact that between the moments of the described events and the moment of writing the novel there is a significant time distance. Using this, primarily narrative verb form, Tišma significantly contributes to the stylization of the narratives.

The Inverted Discourse of Wonder in Frances Trollope’s Domestic Manners of the Americans

The Inverted Discourse of Wonder in Frances Trollope’s Domestic Manners of the Americans

Author(s): Justyna Fruzińska / Language(s): English Issue: 04/2018

The article discusses Frances Trollope’s Domestic Manners of the Americans, a famous account of the writer’s travel in the United States undertaken in the 1820s, and focuses on the language it employs to describe the young republic. It compares Trollope’s discursive strategies to those present in Christopher Columbus’s Diario, and referred to by Stephen Greenblatt in his Marvelous Possessions as the “discourse of wonder.” While the early modern accounts of the New World, including Columbus’s, give voice to the travelers’ amazement and enchantment, Trollope in many respects expresses a contrary sentiment, creating a vision of America as an unpleasantly uncivilized country, with people lacking in sophistication and nature being dangerous and chaotic. She achieves a similar degree of narrative intensity, employing tropes akin to those found in Columbus’s Diario, but with the opposite intention in mind: making use of superlatives, familiarizing the unfamiliar, and hinting at the unbelievable, she creates an inverted version of the discourse of wonder. This strategy is visible particularly well in her descriptions of the Mississippi river, metonymically representing the whole of the United States.

Цветообразы как средство выражения антропоцентричности в художественных текстах Адама Мицкевица и их русских переводах

Author(s): Roza Alimpijewa / Language(s): Russian Issue: X/2005

The article focuses on the linguistic and stylistic analysis of blue tone colour images in the art system of A. Mickiewicz and the correlation of these colour images with their Russian equivalents. The article determines the paradigm of colour images, explores the semantic gradation of its constituent parts. The symbiosis of organic unity of perceptions of colour and light and the possibility to blend and merge the colour images of different semantic fields make this systematic organization one of the integral parts of A. Mickiewicz’s dynamic and infinite with respect to conveying additional meanings art world view. And hence, it determines its ability to perform a complex set of evaluative functions, transforming the art system into the efficient expressive means of author’s assessments and self-assessments.

К вопросу о составлении учебного пособия по фонетике для польских студентов-русистов

Author(s): Jakub Walczak / Language(s): Russian Issue: XXIV/2019

The article concerns theoretical premises leading to the development of a comprehensive Rus-sian pronunciation course for foreigners. The author of Fonetyka rosyjska. Praktyczny przewodnik po wymowie i intonacji z ćwiczeniami, was guided by two principles, meaning that the phonological system of the native language may be a starting point and the articulation base for learning foreign pronunciation as well as that the next learning units should be based on the most difficult parts of Russian phonetics – especially those in which an interference with Polish language is observed, and those which involve pronunciation mistakes, frequently made by Polish speaking people learn-ing Russian. Finally, the material layout consists of simultaneous isolation of difficulties during the systematic introduction of the new phonetic elements.
