The research tries to highlight the confluences between the constructivist paradigm of the learning process cantered on construction/ deconstruction and the reconstruction of the mental representations with the help of the cognitive components, as well as the learning model based on the ACISSI conceptual structure. The terminological delineation of the ACISSI acronym (algorithms for configuration and integration/ insertion of stratified structures of learning/ understanding) will be clarified from the perspective of the application of the concept of system of contents, through a strategic didactical architecture to the symbiosis created by the integrative vision: learning paradigm/ learning model/ valorisation of the formative attributes of the content systems, starting from the ACISSI concept and highlighting the role of motivational blocks in coherence with the principles and criteria for the application of the methodological set. At the same time, the paper will clarify the aspects related to the use of other types of texts than the colloquial/ functional, artistic and the criteria for the selection and adaptation of these texts. A key element of this research is represented by the description of the model circumscribed to the track of the comprehension competence, from the perspective of the stages of the learning units: acquisition – development of a basis of cognitive components, at the level of exploration of the knowledge resources.; Introspection – acquisition of the different aspects of knowledge; Modification – overall vision on the studied resources, and themed elaboration of a cognitive project; Presentation of the results – integration of the learning model in the community reality.

Verbal Periphrases in Spanish as a Foreign Language: Language as “a Potential of Meaning” - A Pragmatic and Didactic Approach

Verbal Periphrases in Spanish as a Foreign Language: Language as “a Potential of Meaning” - A Pragmatic and Didactic Approach

Author(s): Victor-Emanuel Ciuciuc / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2021

e purpose of this paper is to shed some light on the very sinuous subject of verbal periphrasis. When starting to work on verbal periphrasis in Spanish, the first thing that the researcher and / or the ELE teacher will notice will be an enormous difficulty in finding an adjusted definition and a coherent classification of this grammatical category. Likewise, the very scarce work on their uses and functions stands out, since most of the research that deals with this topic focuses on theoretical definitions referring to their formal / categorical nature.

Digital Competences in the Acquisition of Romanian as a Foreign Language

Digital Competences in the Acquisition of Romanian as a Foreign Language

Author(s): Ana-Mihaela Istrate / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2021

The study highlights the most important challenges encountered by the language professors in teaching online, enumerating some of the most important tools available during an entire year of online teaching Romanian as a Foreign Language. It focuses particularly on the difficulties that international students had, while learning a completely new language, without any face-to-face interaction, stressing the most important online instruments, which could help us teach Romanian grammar and vocabulary. The study highlights also the most important theoretical frameworks regarding intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, which can trigger the learning process, even in an exclusively online environment. Very important is the change of mentalities, first at the level of the teachers, who can and should embrace the change, so that they can push the limits of teaching languages in the virtual space, in such a way that classes could be equally interesting and challenging for the learners. A very important section of the article is dedicated to the study of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, in the case of international students learning Romanian as a foreign language, explaining the mechanisms that trigger language acquisition and offering examples of instruments that we have at hand, to help the language production. The study also enumerates some of the most important models that focus on linguistic and social processes, which trigger foreign language acquisition, which can explain why in certain cases learners can learn a foreign language faster or experience a culture shock, due to the inappropriate cultural adaptation.

Importanţa componentei culturale în predarea limbii române ca limbă străină

Author(s): Ana Mihaela Istrate / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 2/2018

The present study represents an analysis of the methods used by teaching staff of the Romanian - American University, during the three years of teaching, at the Foundation Year of Romanian language as a foreign language. In a constantly growing market with a growing demand, especially for preparing future students for medical programs, the article follows the evolution of the international students, who enrol in the program with an A1-A2 level of English language knowledge, which raises the question of the type of teaching: with the help of English as support language, or directly in the Romanian language, by the immersion method in the new language of study. Considering also the cultural differences existing between learners, which affect in a way dramatically acquiring a language with an extremely different grammar and difficult at the same time, we will turn our attention to the importance of cultural elements, highlighting the similarities between cultures, which allow an easier transition to the new language and culture.

Bohemizmy czy latynizmy? Jak potwierdzać lub wykluczać pośrednictwo przy zapożyczeniach

Bohemizmy czy latynizmy? Jak potwierdzać lub wykluczać pośrednictwo przy zapożyczeniach

Author(s): Jan Jakub German / Language(s): Polish Issue: 12/2024

The paper focuses on Old Polish loanwords of Latin origin connected to religious terminology. Many works on this topic assume that most of these loanwords were borrowed via Czech mediation. However, in recent years, the thesis about the Czech origin of Polish Christianity has been disputed. In this paper I discuss the types of arguments that can be used to confirm or exclude the possibility of Czech mediation for the discussed loanwords: phonetic, morphological, semantic, orthographic, chronological, and extralinguistic arguments. Each type of argument is described, followed by examples from the Old Polish material and evaluated (ex. gr. the phonetic argumentation is generally more useful and compelling than orthographical). In the conclusions I point out the difficulties concerning the study on the possible Czech mediation (relatinization, similarity between Old Czech and Old Polish), and I give examples of loans where mediation can neither be ruled out nor confirmed using any of the arguments mentioned in the article.

ДИГИТАЛНО ИНИЦИИРАНИЯТ БИЛИНГВИЗЪМ В ПРЕДУЧИЛИЩНА ВЪЗРАСТ

Author(s): Violeta Georgieva-Hristozova / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 2/2024

This theoretical study addresses the phenomenon of digitally initiated bilingualism in preschool age, characteristic of the „Alpha” generation. Based on studies of contemporary scientific sources and direct observations, the publication reports and registers the spontaneous and unstructured acquisition of a second language (predominantly English) by today’s preschool children through their persistent playful interaction with screen content. The aim of this theoretical exposition is to attempt to present and define a relatively new scientific problem for specialists in the field of preschool education. The material is aimed at a wide audience, including students of pedagogical specialties, active preschool teachers, parents of preschool children, and other interested parties. The discussion reveals conflicting viewpoints, highlighting the dissonance between the skepticism of educators, the expert doubts of some researchers, and the actual observations of effective communication of preschool children in natural conditions. The results emphasize the need for theoretical and empirical pedagogical studies in the context of the current digital transformation in education, with a view to adapting the style of upbringing and pedagogical interaction of modern preschool children.

AN ATTEMPT AT OBJECTIFYING THE TWOFOLD NATURE OF THE EGO SELF RELATIONSHIP IN TOPÂRCEANU’S POETRY

AN ATTEMPT AT OBJECTIFYING THE TWOFOLD NATURE OF THE EGO SELF RELATIONSHIP IN TOPÂRCEANU’S POETRY

Author(s): Clementina Alexandra Mihăilescu,Stela Pleșa / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 40/2025

George Topârceanu’s poetry is a good opportunity for studying the twofold nature of the human being, offering a double opening: towards his sensitive soul and towards language. The poet’s sensitivity reverberates in his way of approaching the twofold nature of the human being that oscillates between the rational ego and the authentic self with its psychotraumatic experiences. As concerns the language employed to tackle human issues, it demonstrates the ability of the poet to choose simple, expressive words and adequate linguistic patterns through which every passionate reader could develop expressive abiltities to render his authentic spiritual experiences. Gaston Bachelard and Liviu Rusu represent the instruments for analyzing the poems entitled The Inferno and The Traveller’s Ballad.

FROM PAGES TO SCREENS: HOW LITERATURE EXPLORES AND PREDICTS CYBERBULLYING

FROM PAGES TO SCREENS: HOW LITERATURE EXPLORES AND PREDICTS CYBERBULLYING

Author(s): Andrei-Lucian Marian / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 40/2025

Cyberbullying is a modern form of aggression, and contemporary, classical, and dystopian literature provides a relevant perspective on this phenomenon, illustrating its emotional and social impact. By exploring exclusion, public humiliation, and isolation, fiction, social realism, and psychological literature help in understanding the consequences of digital aggression on victims. Studies show that affected individuals develop anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem, and books that address bullying, marginalization, and power dynamics can contribute to fostering empathy. Additionally, literature can serve as an educational tool, used to stimulate debates on ethics, digital responsibility, and the emotional impact of aggression. Books that explore themes such as social ostracization, public shaming, or technological manipulation can help young people better understand the dangers of the online environment. Literature not only reflects the realities of cyberbullying but also offers models of resilience and strategies for overcoming trauma. By integrating it into educational programs, literature can contribute to promoting empathy and responsible online behavior.

TRANSLATION OF PAREMIOLOGICAL UNITS RELATED TO THE CONCEPT “WEALTH”

TRANSLATION OF PAREMIOLOGICAL UNITS RELATED TO THE CONCEPT “WEALTH”

Author(s): Inna Colenciuc / Language(s): English Issue: 40/2025

The wisdom and essence of a nation are often reflected in paremiological units. Exploring them not only enhances language proficiency but also provides deeper insight into the mindset and character of people. Proverbs and sayings capture a nation's historical experiences, way of thinking, daily life, and cultural values, representing its unique national and cultural identity. By analyzing and comparing English and Romanian proverbs and sayings related to “wealth”, we can broaden our linguistic knowledge, gain insights into historical events and traditions of both cultures, appreciate folk wisdom, and embrace common human values. The selected paremiological units (60) are grouped according to the ways of their translation. The received data show that 60 % of the analyzed proverbs are rendered by analogue translation, 25 % - by equivalents, 6, 7 % - by antonymic translation, 5 % - by descriptive translation, 1, 3 % - by loan translation. The paremiological unists related to wealth are classified semantically into 7 groups: “The positive role of wealth”, “Wealth is bestowed by God” “The secondary role of wealth in human life”, “Wealth acquired in a dishonest way”, “The harmful effect of wealth on people”, “Wealth can easily be lost”, “Wealth brings worries”.The evaluative characteristics of wealth in both languages have common characteristics. Among the coinciding characteristics: negative - greed, haste, non-compliance with laws, lack of moral principles; positive - absence of such qualities as greed, motivation to activity, happy family, health, good fame and honor, lacking fear of loss of material possessions.

THE EVOLUTION OF CHANGES IN THE ORTHOGRAPHIC, ORTHOEPIC AND MORPHOLOGICAL DICTIONARY

THE EVOLUTION OF CHANGES IN THE ORTHOGRAPHIC, ORTHOEPIC AND MORPHOLOGICAL DICTIONARY

Author(s): Adriana Elena Geantă / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 40/2025

The objective of this article is the orthographic, orthoepic and morphological modifications introduced in the three editions of the Orthographic, Orthoepic and Morphological Dictionary of the Romanian language. In carrying out the study, I started from the necessity and importance of the complete knowledge of the novelties that concern the writing, pronunciation and morphology of the words existing in the current Romanian language, observing the impact that the use has on the establishment of the norms of the Romanian language. The new orthographic rules appearing in the last edition of the Orthographic, Orthoepic and Morphological Dictionary must be accepted by all Romanians, but there are not a few who declare themselves dissatisfied with them. Personally, I recommend to any speaker the use of these scientific works that help us apply correctly to the words of the Romanian language, the rules of orthography (correct writing), orthoepic (correct pronunciation) and morphological (changing the shape of words to mark grammatical values) consecrated especially through literary use.

JOSÉ SARAMAGO, BLINDNESS

JOSÉ SARAMAGO, BLINDNESS

Author(s): Ramona Buruiană / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 40/2025

The dystopian novel Blindness (1995) is a parable about humanity, about finding the lost meaning. The writer subjects the individual to a process of returning to himself, by suppressing a sense. Put into this exercise of survival, man rediscovers his ephemeral condition in the deepest scatological zone, redefining himself morally and spiritually. Thus, the epidemic of “white evil” manages to rehabilitate the social function of people, subordinate to each other through this infirmity. The free, nonconformist style, suitable for observing sordid reality, invites meditation on existence, and the aesthetic value resides precisely in the provocation of the loss and rediscovery of the Self in the encounter with the Other.

FEMINISM AND LITERARY IDENTITY: CĂTĂLINA FLORINA FLORESCU’ S WORKS

FEMINISM AND LITERARY IDENTITY: CĂTĂLINA FLORINA FLORESCU’ S WORKS

Author(s): Iuliana Păunescu ( Voroneanu) / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 40/2025

Contemporary theatre plays become fertile spaces for exploring themes of identity, trauma and personal reconstruction. Cătălina Florina Florescu, a writer from the Romanian diaspora, makes a significant contribution to this literary landscape through the innovative way in which she approaches female characters in contemporary literature, reflecting and challenging cultural and social norms. The writer's works have not yet benefited from an extensive analysis in this direction, namely the analysis of how these characters reflect different aspects of femininity, such as identity, sexuality, interpersonal relationships, motherhood, career, addressing themes of trauma, healing and self-discovery. It is an opportunity to investigate the cultural and personal influences that life in the diaspora had on the plays under analysis, the way in which the experience of emigration and adaptation is reflected in its themes and characters. They deal with complex and sensitive topics, from a feminist perspective and critical of contemporary society. An aspect worth mentioning, for a modern and intelligent theater, of a disturbing honesty, is the strength of a harsh, relentless language, used by female characters, which pushes us beyond our comfort zones and encourages us to question ourselves about what it means to be a man, a woman, a human being.

IOAN CARAGIANI’S TRANSLATIONS OF MODERN GREEK FOLKLORE: A LINGUISTIC AND CULTURAL STUDY

IOAN CARAGIANI’S TRANSLATIONS OF MODERN GREEK FOLKLORE: A LINGUISTIC AND CULTURAL STUDY

Author(s): Mirela Averikios / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 40/2025

The manuscript of Ioan Caragiani’s translations from Modern-Greek folklore, The Aromanians and Greek Folk Songs, is preserved at the Museum of Romanian Literature in Iași. It consists of 218 pages, including 115 folk songs translated from Arnoldus Passow’s 1860 collection, Τραγούδια Ρωμαίικα, and Caragiani’s notes on the historical figures mentioned in the poems. The manuscript reflects linguistic inconsistencies due to Caragiani’s Greek education, Aromanian dialectal influences, and evolving Romanian orthographic norms. His translations feature archaic verb forms, redundant superlatives, and unusual syntax. The lexicon integrates numerous borrowings from Turkish (aga, arnăut, harem), Greek (cleft, palicar, egumen), and Slavic (duhovnic, praznic), alongside French and Italian influences. Caragiani’s poetic style includes inversions, metaphorical imagery, and personifications, mirroring the oral tradition of folk poetry. Although unpublished, his work aimed to highlight Aromanian folklore within the broader Balkan cultural landscape, making a significant contribution to Romanian literary studies.

"THE SORROWS OF YOUNG WERTHER" AND THE TURMOIL OF THE CONTEMPORARY MAN

Author(s): Gabriela-Cristina Spiridon / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 40/2025

In this paper, we aim to demonstrate Werther's condition in comparison to the one of the contemporary man. Central to this focus on Goethe’s character are his portrayal as a ”Stürmer und Dränger”. First, however, it is important to present both Goethe in the context of the social environment and cultural milieu of his time, as well as The Sorrows of Young Werther in general. Of course, we will also portray the biographical elements present in the novel. Following this, we will introduce the ”Sturm und Drang” movement – a crucial part of this analysis – and highlight its key characteristics. Next, we will delve into deeper questions: Werther in comparison to the contemporary man, Werther’s influence on literature, which has manifested in numerous Wertheriads, and finally, the history of the novel’s reception and the significant Werther effect upon society in comparison to the effect of social media upon today’s society.

TRANSLATING INTIMACY IN THE WORLD LITERATURE

TRANSLATING INTIMACY IN THE WORLD LITERATURE

Author(s): Cristian Dragnea / Language(s): English Issue: 40/2025

This article explores a few strategies of ”translating” (in cultural terms) intimacy and emotions in postcolonial literature, as well as the way that translation shapes perceptions of relationships and identities across cultures. We address the relation between postcolonial and Western writers in the practice of translation, and we proceed to assess its impact on identity reconfiguration. Focusing on local literary and gender studies, we show how intimacy is culturally specific and resists universalization. Case studies, including Mariama Bâ’s So Long a Letter and Chinua Achebe’s Things Fall Apart, illustrate how postcolonial narratives preserve cultural authenticity rather than conforming to Western norms.

THE HERMETIC MODEL OF RENAISSANCE

THE HERMETIC MODEL OF RENAISSANCE

Author(s): Andra-Elena Ionescu / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 40/2025

In this study the main concern is to establish the most important ideas of the hermetic tradition of the early and late Renaissance that could function subtly in the narrative frame of Vasile Voiculescu’s prose. Some preoccupations of the author such as theosophy, Gnosticism, magic, cabbala, archaic thinking, medicine, arts, science show an interest towards an encyclopedic and spiritual knowledge in which can be identified the echoes of a far age that emerges in new forms in the fantastic imaginary of the 20th century Romanian literature. The storyteller may have a nostalgic perspective in which is expressed the urge of the lost unity between the mundane world and the celestial level. The narrator resembles with the magus figure bringing a spiritual significance in the fantastic structure and in the auctorial discourse. The concept of phantasm is necessary in order to redefine the fantastic and the language of the Vasile Voiculescu’s tales.
