Throughout history, earthquakes have been the most threatening after wars for the structures that people have built outside of caves and natural life shelters. Although there are many things that people can do against earthquakes, the most important of these measures is the earthquake resistance of the structures of the societies living in the earthquake zone. However, the economic and social structures of societies sometimes put the measures to be taken against earthquakes into the background. However, individual measures alone are not enough to reduce the devastating consequences of the earthquake. A society must take the necessary measures as a whole. For this, first of all, the approach of constructing earthquake resistant structures in that society must be established, the society must have sufficient economic resources, education and most importantly, sufficient level of awareness. In this respect, it is important to consider the social approaches to the causes and consequences of the earthquake within the framework of the behavioral economy perspective. It is necessary to scrutinize the established social and economic approaches to earthquakes in the society for a better understanding of the subject. Thus, by evaluating the earthquake reality with a broad perspective, it can contribute to a structural and realistic change and transformation in terms of reducing the consequences of the earthquake. When the earthquake that took place in the Anatolian peninsula is evaluated, it is observed that although the earthquake has been a part and reality of social life throughout history, it has been observed that neglect and inadequate measures have taken the lead in reducing its consequences. Indeed, the Anatolian peninsula has hosted many civilizations throughout history. While these civilizations developed and prospered on this peninsula, which has fertile lands surrounded by seas on three sides, experiencing four seasons, on the other hand, it has faced earthquakes. These earthquakes caused great destruction and subsequent great migrations.

THE INFLUENCE OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC ON THE RESILIENCE OF COMPANIES. A BIBLIOMETRIC ANALYSIS

Author(s): Camelia Cătălina Mihalciuc,Maria Grosu,Liviu-George Maha,Ciprian Apostol / Language(s): English Publication Year: 0

The ability of companies to adapt to unfavorable situations in a relatively short time refers to organizational resilience. A resilient organization must withstand shocks, adapt, and have transformative capacity. Resilience is an important issue in different fields, and organizational resilience is a concept, which has become at the forefront of national and international research, over the years, especially during the period transversed by the COVID 19 pandemic. This paper thus aims to to contribute to the debates that take place on the topic of organizational resilience, through the bibliometric and visual analysis carried out on research in the direction of organizational resilience, collected from the WoS Core Collection database, from the last two years. Thus, the central objective of the paper starts from the question: What is the general trend of publishing research on organizational resilience in the world in a pandemic context? Through the use of the bibliometric method and visualization software for knowledge mapping, emerging trends in resilience research and organizational resilience under different aspects have been presented. The Covid 19 pandemic represents a vector both for companies that will maintain their business model and rely on economic growth, but also for those companies that will not survive.

THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN JOB SATISFACTION AND JOB CHARACTERISTICS OF OLDER WORKERS IN EUROPEAN ORGANIZATIONS. A PERSPECTIVE ON GENDER DIFFERENCES

THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN JOB SATISFACTION AND JOB CHARACTERISTICS OF OLDER WORKERS IN EUROPEAN ORGANIZATIONS. A PERSPECTIVE ON GENDER DIFFERENCES

Author(s): Elisabeta Jaba,Christiana Brigitte Sandu / Language(s): English Publication Year: 0

This study aims to analyse the job satisfaction of older employees in Europe from the perspective of gender differences. The relationship between job satisfaction and various factors such as job characteristics, work environment, employees’ characteristics is of interest for human resource management in successful organizations. Previous studies on gender gap paradox show that women are more satisfied than men, even when controlling for job and personal characteristics. However, this phenomenon varies in time and among countries. The effects of several determinant factors on job satisfaction are estimated using ordinal logistic regression model applied on data from the Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe (SHARE). The comparative analysis by gender for ordered logistic regression estimations allows to identify several differences in assessing the impact of working environment on job satisfaction for men and women. The findings of this study are discussed both from a theoretical and a practical perspective.

THE SMART CITIES OF ROMANIA: AN OVERVIEW

THE SMART CITIES OF ROMANIA: AN OVERVIEW

Author(s): Ioana-Maria Ursache,Constantin-Marius Apostoaie / Language(s): English Publication Year: 0

The ‘smart city’ emerged as a complex strategy, involving different urban aspects and dimensions. The European model is currently built on six domains: smart mobility, smart governance, smart economy, smart people, smart living and smart environment. The current paper investigates how Romanian cities have implemented smart city strategies and how are they evolving from a more practical perspective. While the vast majority of initiatives are concentrated in the capital city and other important regional centres, not all projects are functional and have yet to generate benefits for citizens. With regard to the status-quo in Romania, smart cities are rather in the adaptation phase, having emerged from tensions between modern and traditional forms of governance and socio-economic and environmental goals. The aim of this paper is to critically asses how close are Romanian cities to the conventional smart city by analysing how and which smartness factors have been translated in the seven Romania’s regional development centres – Iași, Cluj-Napoca, Timișoara, Brașov, Constanța, Craiova and Ploiești.

ПРЕДИЗВИКАТЕЛСТВОТО COVID-19: УБЕЖДЕНИЯ И ТЪРСЕНЕ НА ИНФОРМАЦИЯ В УСЛОВИЯТА НА ПАНДЕМИЯ

Author(s): Ilina Nacheva,Antoaneta Hristova / Language(s): Bulgarian Publication Year: 0

The present study aims to analyze the relationship between personal beliefs related to the coronavirus and vaccines against COVID-19, attitudes towards messages from official health authorities, and active information seeking about developing treatments and vaccines. For this purpose, data from a study representative of the adult population of Bulgaria and conducted in the phase of the highest morbidity were used. A significant positive correlation was found between maintaining a belief that COVID-19 poses a serious threat to human health (corresponding to the current scientific and medical opinions at the time of the study) and trust in the health information disclosed by the responsible institutions (r=0.530, p= 0.000), as well as with the active search for information on the topic (r=0.542, p=0.000). Holding a belief that the vaccines against COVID-19 represent a means of tracking and controlling the person (corresponding to popular conspiracy theories actively spread at the time of the study) was negatively correlated with trust in official health information (r=- 0.409, p=0.000) . A weak but significant negative relationship was also found with the declared information seeking about the development of treatments and vaccines (r =- 0.225, p =0.000). The results obtained and the conclusions drawn can serve in the development of communication strategies and the construction of information campaigns aimed at specific communities in future health crises.

The study aim was to investigate the reasons for and needs towards the rehabilitation in post COVID-19 patients with musculoskeletal symptoms referred for outpatient physiotherapy. Methodology: 138 patients were included in the study with demographic characteristics and information about education, occupation, sport activities, post COVID-19 symptoms duration, acute infection treatment (inpatient/outpatient), persistent musculoskeletal symptoms type and duration, comorbidities, reasons for seeing a doctor specializing in physical medicine, active rehabilitation-seeking behavior – collected. Results: In the observed group, musculoskeletal symptoms persisted for 13(7-20) weeks in average. Most commonly, patients were referred for outpatient rehabilitation for: back pain (68.8%(95)), fatigue (46.4%(64)), myalgia 38.4%(53)), arthralgia (23.9%(33)), physical activity difficulties (20.3%(28)), other causes (10.1%(14)), and shortness of breath(6.5%(9)). 84%(117) of the patients gave more than one reason for seeing specialist and over 80% had comorbidities. Only 31%, had active health behavior and required to be referred for rehabilitation themselves. Conclusions: Rehabilitation is important part of the negative health outcomes reduction for post COVID-19 patients with musculoskeletal symptoms. Active behavior formation and education in the recovery phase is an essential component of long-term management of COVID-19 consequences.

The Impact of Government Expenditure on Education in the Environmental, Social and Governance Models at World Level

Author(s): Angelo LEOGRANDE,Alberto Costantiello / Language(s): English Publication Year: 0

In this chapter, we estimated the value of Government Expenditure on Education (GEE) in the context of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) dataset of the World Bank. We used data from 193 countries in the period 2011-2020. We used Panel Data with Fixed Effects, Panel Data with Random Effects, Pooled Ordinary Least Squares-OLS, and Weighted Least Squares-WLS. Our results show that the value of GEE is positively associated among others to “Case of Death, by communicable disease and maternal, prenatal and nutrition conditions”, and “Unemployment”, and negatively associated among others to “Hospital Beds” and “Government Effectiveness”. Furthermore, we applied the k-Means algorithm optimized with the Elbow method and we found the presence of four clusters. Finally, we confronted eight machine learning algorithms for the prediction of the future value of GEE. We found that the polynomial regression is the best predictive algorithm. The polynomial regression predicts an increase in GEE of 7.09% on average for the analysed countries.
