CONTEMPORARY MIGRATIONS FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF HUMAN SECURITY PARADIGM

CONTEMPORARY MIGRATIONS FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF HUMAN SECURITY PARADIGM

Author(s): Edita Hasković / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2024

The paper considers migrations from the perspective of human security paradigm, with special focus on the Post World War II period. Even though the initial activities in establishing the concept of human security have been taken in mid-40s of the last century under the umbrella of United Nations, its affirmation in scientific and political circles is reached only in the aftermath of the Cold War era, when significant steps forward were made to extend the security agenda to non-military threats and other referent objects of security, outside the previously dominant state-centric approach. This is a concept that embodies the idea of multidimensional approach to security, which places human being and his daily exposure to different threats and disturbances that represent an existential threat in the center of scientific observations, making it indispensable in considering the contemporary migratory movements, especially multiple factors that affect them. A special focus of the paper is on determining the migration-related problems through the prism of two fundamental components of human security – freedom from fear (freedom from violence, oppression and persecution) and freedom from want (freedom from poverty, penury and misery), the insufficiency of which is accounted in certain parts of the world as a significant factor in making the decision to emigrate from country of origin.

SMUGGLING OF MIGRANTS ON THE BALKAN ROUTE WITH AN AMPHASIS ON BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA

SMUGGLING OF MIGRANTS ON THE BALKAN ROUTE WITH AN AMPHASIS ON BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA

Author(s): Admir KATICA / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2024

Since 2015 the migrant crisis has affected on a global level regions and started off the worst refugee crisis since the establishment of European Union. While some countries were set to help and provide support to migrants and refugees, others turned to setting up fences, in order to stop illegal entries to their countries. Different approaches were in place depending on the state policy of the country, which majorly focused on strenghtening border control. Along with strictier border controls, the market of smuggling migrants arise and evenCOVID19 did not impacted the movement of migrants in a broader extent. The smuggling of migrants according to Global Initiative market assesment facilitated milllions of euros, only in 2020, while it differed a set of typology of smugglers. Smugglers use current migration, as well as political situation triggered with corruption, to make their ‘bussines’ flourish. This paper provides insights in how migration and organized crime are linked, in the sense of smuggling of migrants, and presents the market of smuggling in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

ANALYSIS OF SPECIFIC ANTHROPOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS AND COMPARISON BETWEEN AND WITHIN CERTAIN POSITIONS IN A VIP CLOSE PROTECTION TEAM

Author(s): Zlatko Moratić / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2024

The aim of this paper is to present the necessary anthropological features essential for the performance of general and specific jobs, as well as a comparison within and between certain positions in the team for the close protection of VIPs. The aim of the research is the analysis of specific anthropological characteristics, within certain positions and comparisons between certain positions. For the purposes of this work, an expert analysis was conducted in which twenty-four experts from the field of close protection from the region and Europe have participated, who in their career were members of VIP security services for at least 5years and worked in all positions in the close protection team. The necessary anthropological characteristics were assessed by an expert analysis and a comparison was made between and within the team for close protection of VIPs working at a medium threat level in accordance with the model most often used in the region and Europe. The mentioned model includes a minimum of two vehicles during the security transport of VIPs by motor vehicles and an average number of agents. The results of this research, after analyzing of specific anthropological characteristics, indicate that there are statistically significant differences in the value of certain factors within certain positions in the team, as well as statistically significant differences in the value of certain factors between certain positions in the team. The results of this research are of crucial importance for the continued improvement of the training and formation of teams that work at an intermediate level of threat, considering the individualities and characteristics of the members of the mentioned team.

Exploring Linguistic Strategies in Romanian Clickbait Headlines: Communication Tactics in Online Media

Author(s): Marcela Fărcaşiu,Vasile Gherheş / Language(s): English Issue: 23/2024

This study investigates the communication tactics embedded in clickbait headlines found in Romanian online media, by linguistically analysing a corpus of 80 headlines sourced from the Libertatea newspaper. It identifies key strategies such as the use of questions, numbers and dramatic language, all crafted to provoke curiosity and evoke emotional reactions from readers. By examining these linguistic techniques, the paper sheds light on the manipulative structures that drive digital engagement through clickbait in Romania. Furthermore, the findings provide a foundation for developing more advanced algorithms for clickbait detection and emphasise the critical need to understand how these strategies affect the credibility and quality of online journalism.

Sluch má dějiny: obrat ke zvuku a případ hluché reformace

Author(s): Anna Kvíčalová / Language(s): Czech Issue: 2/2024

The paper introduces sound studies as a field of interdisciplinary historical research and demonstrates how the history of sound and hearing can be explored in the historical record, using the example of the early Calvinist Reformation in Geneva. It argues that hearing difficulties were the central theme of early Calvinism that significantly shaped the character of its religious and material culture, and proposes to study the Reformation as a process of systematically creating a new culture of attentive listening. It shows that the Calvinist Reformation played an active role in constructing historical categories such as deafness as well as in defining distinctions between good and bad hearing and sound, contributing to the broadly defined history of acoustics.

Paměti a vzpomínky jako neopomenutelný historický pramen? Emil Kellner a jeho „železničářské“ vzpomínky

Paměti a vzpomínky jako neopomenutelný historický pramen? Emil Kellner a jeho „železničářské“ vzpomínky

Author(s): Klára Fabianková,Ivan Jakubec / Language(s): Czech Issue: 2/2024

The paper focuses on a hitherto untapped source of a subjective nature, which is on the borderline between private and institutionally requested provenance. Two manuscript memoirs of Emil Kellner, a long-time railway employee, can be found in the State Regional Archive in Prague within the fund of České dráhy, a. s., Prague [Czech Railways, JSC]. They were written in 1954 and 1955 at the instigation of the Railway Archive and the Ministry of Railways. They cover the period from the last third of the 19th century with gaps until 1941. The memoirs provide some interesting facts that were not previously known or, on the contrary, confirm some things already known. The memoirs give an insight into the (everyday), routine life on the railway. The characteristics of the employees and their fates, not excluding the social dimension, are extremely interesting. The memoirs also provide details of dealings with superiors (requests, personal presentations, interventions, patronage, visits to railway management in Vienna or Prague) and transcribed documents (correspondence) depicting railway administration during the monarchy.

Posun interpretačních rámcov problematiky dejin motorizmu v českej a slovenskej historiografii

Posun interpretačních rámcov problematiky dejin motorizmu v českej a slovenskej historiografii

Author(s): Mikuláš Jančura / Language(s): Slovak Issue: 2/2024

The phenomenon of motoring represents one of the most significant developments of the 20th century. As a research challenge for historians, it offers a wealth of potential avenues for investigation. The automobile has been shaped by dynamic interactions with broader economic, social, and cultural structures. In the historical sciences in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, motoring has been a marginalized subject for an extended period. At the outset, Czech historiography commenced an investigation into the phenomenon in question. Prior to 1989, however, it was perceived primarily as a technical artefact with its own internal genesis. Over time, the prevailing trends shifted in favour of a more comprehensive integration of the motoring sector within broader socioeconomic, cultural, legislative and political structures. In Slovakia, historical scholarship has gradually begun to address these trends, yet the research into this particular issue remains the exclusive domain of a relatively limited number of scholars. Consequently, a considerable imbalance existed between Czech and Slovak historiography, and this remains the case to this day. The objective of this study is to analyse the initial state and the subsequent shift in the interpretive frameworks of research into the history of motoring in Czech and Slovak historiography. Another objective is to identify and illustrate the aforementioned shifts in the perception and interpretation of motoring, utilising illustrative examples of key works in the Czech-Slovak comparative context.

Historická sociologie genocidy: teorie vzniku genocidy podle Siniši Maleševiče

Author(s): Karel Bauer / Language(s): Czech Issue: 2/2024

The paper focuses on the work of historical sociology professor Siniša Maleševič and his findings in the field of organised violence, especially genocide. Maleševič identified three main long-term historical processes responsible for emergence of special societal conditions that enabled a rise of genocides. The article discusses Maleševič’s approach to the study of violence, the role of the long-term historical processes triad in relation to the most extreme form of organised violence – genocide, and finally offers a detailed explanation of Maleševič’s theory supplemented by a graphic scheme. The article also compares the author’s claims with the arguments of other leading researchers in the field of violence and genocide research.

Echo Chambers and Science: Analysing the Impact of Digital Homogenisation on Public Discourse over Science

Author(s): Svetlomir Zdravkov / Language(s): English Issue: Special/2024

This study examines the evolution of homogenisation in scientific discourse on digital platforms in Bulgaria from 2011 to 2022 by analysing a comprehensive textual corpus of digital media. Using BERTopic, an embedded topic modeling technique, the analysis identified key topics that drive both polarisation and consensus. By applying a polarization index (PI) to measure the variance in emotional responses to science-related topics, the analysis reveals a shift from diverse, high-polarisation discussions in the early years of the platform to more homogeneous, low-polarisation interactions as the platform matured. Initially, topics such as space exploration and education systems generated significant public debate, reflecting a diverse engagement with science. Over time, however, the platform became more insular, with discussions increasingly confined to an echo chamber that reinforced existing beliefs, particularly in soft sciences such as education. The findings suggest that, while digital platforms may initially foster diverse scientific discourse, their design and resulting homogenising tendencies ultimately lead to greater polarisation and fragmentation in the public sphere. This not only distorts the public’s understanding of science, but also undermines society’s ability to address complex scientific challenges effectively, as is required to address multiple fragmented publics rather than a single one.

Vybrané archeologické doklady válečných událostí z husitského období v severovýchodních Čechách (Bilance možností a limitů výzkumu)

Vybrané archeologické doklady válečných událostí z husitského období v severovýchodních Čechách (Bilance možností a limitů výzkumu)

Author(s): Pavel Drnovský / Language(s): Czech Issue: 51/2024

During the Hussite Revolution, the region of north-east Bohemia was an area where there were relatively frequent battles between different political groups. The text of the study is devoted to a review of archaeological research on sites associated with the Hussite wars. The archaeological research of war events associated with the Hussite period is fully dependent on the nature of individual historical events and their possible reflection in archaeologically recognizable situations. Large historical events (battles) that influeced further historical development may paradoxically not have left behind significant archaeological traces. Research on medieval field battles is generally difficult on a European scale. Among the best understoood situations associated with combat encounters is the siege of fortifications, especially castles. This is related to the possibility of researching these sites, for which we know their location and whose surroundings have generally not been so significantly altered during further historical development, as is the case with permanently inhabited settlements - cities, towns and villages. In particular, militaria collections can give information about the form of siege. If we know the locations of speciic finds, the directions of conquest can be determined. Among such valuable collections are finds from the vicinity of the castles of Potštejn, Rychmberk and Mokřice. A topic that has not yet been addressed is the research of locations that were lost as a result of the Hussite wars. This is related to the limited number of written sources that inform us about such events. However, the findings from these sites provide a basis for comparison in terms of chronological dating. The influence of wartime events on the character of rural settlement also remains an unexplored topic.

DEPICTION OF WOMEN IN CARTER’S THE BLOODY CHAMBER AND ELLIS’S AMERICAN PSYCHO

DEPICTION OF WOMEN IN CARTER’S THE BLOODY CHAMBER AND ELLIS’S AMERICAN PSYCHO

Author(s): Fatbardha DOKO / Language(s): English Issue: 22-23/2024

Women have always been an important part of literature, no matter how were they presented. They are key characters in the development of the plots in works of all literary periods and literary movements. They are presented as victims, villains, weak, strong, intelligent, and sacrificing. This paper will bring a comparative outlook how women are presented in Bloody Chamber and American Psycho. Both Carter in Bloody Chamber and Ellis in American Psycho have women as main protagonists, and no matter these works belong to the postmodernist period, the images of women have a lot of traces from the earliest times. It means, we see women as victims of patriarchal society and families, we see them as sexually submissive and undervalued gender. They try to point out if these women are able to do something to change the way their actions and behavior are judged and how the society views them. This paper gives a comparative outline of these famous literary works, presenting a part of English and American Literature. This is what is presented in this paper, hoping that it will give a glimpse of not only women, their role and position in the society, but the whole society as well, presented in British and American literature.

(MOS)KUJDESI I FILLORISTËVE NDAJ GJUHËS SHQIPE

Author(s): Zymbyle AMETI / Language(s): Albanian Issue: 22-23/2024

Great technological advances have brought children into the digital world, replacing with the "world" they carry in their pockets, pens, notebooks and books, but most worryingly, they have also begun to abandon their native language, embracing the foreign language more easily. The aim of this paper is to investigate how much schoolchildren care about writing their language without mistakes, which part of the Albanian language subject they prefer the most and what they want to change to make learning the Albanian language easier. The paper presents hypotheses, arguments and conclusions based on data collected from a survey with pupils of municipal elementary schools of the city of Gostivar (two hundred four pupils). During the research, the direct survey method was used to collect concrete data from the pupils and the descriptive method was used for the theoretical explanation of the problem we are investigating. The results of the research showed that elementary school pupils prefer literature more than language and don’t care enough to write Albanian without mistakes.

The subject of this research refers to the attitudes of philosophy teachers towards today’s philosophy classes in secondary schools. The process of reforming secondary school education started in Serbia some twenty years ago. First, there was the reform of the curriculum and syllabus for the majority of vocational schools, and then, since 2018, a new curriculum and syllabus have started to be used in high schools as well. Not only have the curriculum and syllabus been changed, but also the approach to the teaching process. The changes relate to all the school subjects, including philosophy classes. The focus is on both, the subject learning outcome and the teaching unit outcome. Philosophy teachers described the experiences, impressions and thoughts about their philosophy classes.

ZNAČAJ KULTURNIH UTICAJA I ISTORIJSKIH DOGAĐAJA U GEŠTALT TERAPIJI

ZNAČAJ KULTURNIH UTICAJA I ISTORIJSKIH DOGAĐAJA U GEŠTALT TERAPIJI

Author(s): Marijana Matović / Language(s): Serbian Issue: 11/2024

This paper summarizes fundamental ideas and concepts derived from Gestalt theory pertinent to addressing concerns associated with cultural background and historical events that may arise in therapy sessions with clients. Most authors believe that the prerequisite for addressing these topics with the client is for the therapist to become more aware of his/her own beliefs, prejudices, and normalities, particularly when it comes to great social tragedies, privileges, and minorities - which in our cultural milieu are constituted as Others in relation to whom cohesion in our society has been created and maintained. The paper is organized in such way that incorporates Gestalt principles, including field theory, phenomenological attitude, and awareness, while addressing the cultural and historical impacts on the therapeutic interaction. Field theory is one of the pillars of the Gestalt approach in psychotherapy and provides a theoretical basis for understanding the topic covered in this paper. The significance of the phenomenological approach, dialogue, and the therapist’s impartial curiosity is emphasized. They assist him in establishing his stance in regard to the client and everything that occurs between them in the “here and now”. Culture is a field shared by both the client and the therapist. The major section of the paper discusses how culture is understood in Gestalt therapy and provides a metacultural perspective, followed by a section on how various modifications of contact in a cultural setting effect the loss of ego function.

Author(s): Desislava Mitkova / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 1/2024

Children from single-parent families and their parents or legal representatives often encounter serious difficulties in the educational and upbringing process. The emotional state of these children and the lack of adequate support programs for their families can lead to problems in their performance at school, difficulties in their integration into the educational environment and even premature school leaving. The article examines the structure, types and specific features of single- parent families, determines the needs of children from such families and analyzes the factors influencing their educational results. The main goal is to develop a psycho- pedagogical support program that will support the successful integration of these children into the educational system, while providing socio-emotional support. The article discusses various forms of pedagogical and social support, strategies for integration, as well as good practices for interaction with parents and significant relatives.

CHARLENE HADDOCK SEIGFRIED’S FEMINIST INTERPRETATION OF WILLIAM JAMES

Author(s): Nikola Stamenković / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2024

Charlene Haddock Seigfried argues that William James’s philosophy significantly influenced the shaping of pragmatist feminism and feminist pragmatism. Interpreting his works, she recognized the potential of his ideas for feminist reconstruction and their alignment with feminist goals. However, Seigfried also criticizes James for what she perceives as pervasive sexism in his writings. In this paper, I will defend James from the accusations made by Seigfried and demonstrate that he did not hold such a hostile attitude towards women as she suggests.

TEORIJE O PRIRODI EMOCIJA I KOGNITIVNO-BIHEJVIORALNA TERAPIJA

Author(s): Igor Stojanović / Language(s): Serbian Issue: 2/2024

In this paper, I analyze two influential theories of emotion: theory of basic emotions (TBE) and psychological constructionism (PC). I offer arguments that aim to show that there are pressures to modify both of these theories so that they move closer to each other to such a degree that the differences between them seem more a matter of emphasis than essence. As an illustration of usefulness of the modified theories, I offer an interpretation of the phenomena of rumination and emotional processing that are recognized as relevant in cognitive behavioral therapy. These two phenomena get a different treatment in this modality: the former is discouraged while the latter is encouraged. This might seem problematic if, as might seem plausible, they are actually the same phenomenon conceptualized in two different ways due to the influence of two different traditions in psychotherapy: cognitive behavioral therapy and psychodymanic approach, respectively. However, I use my modified TBE/PC to model rumination and emotional processing in such a way that explains them while justifying both the notion that they are substantially different and the motivation for engaging with them differently in the context of mental health treatment.
