Since Slovakia's accession to the EU, European funds have become an important source of financing for regional development, which are provided on the basis of elaborated regional development programs at various hierarchical levels. The Environment area has become an inevitable priority area of each such document responding to the current state and quality of environmental components in accordance with sustainable development. The aim of the paper is to evaluate the allocation of funds for the Environment priority area in the Nitra Self-governing Region during 2014 – 2018. The funds were identified for individual measures according to the districts of the region while the focus of projects and sources of their financing were also evaluated. Several methods were used, such as system analysis (grouping and evaluation of information), comparative analysis in creating own databases, mathematical-statistical methods, etc. During the individual years, an average of more than 50 million euros were addressed to the Nitra Self-governing Region. The largest districts of the region (Nitra, Levice and Komárno) received the most funds (59.7 %). In 2018, more than half (52.9 %) of funds came from the European Structural and Investment Funds from the Operational Program Research and Innovation and 37.8 % from the Operational Program Quality of Environment.

Yeşil Organizasyonlar

Author(s): Deniz Yildiz / Language(s): Turkish Publication Year: 0

Since organizations are social systems that interact with the environment, the development of green environmental awareness among the organization is inevitable in order to make natural resources sustainable. Regardless of the sector, organizations must develop an awareness of environmental problems. Today, environmental awareness is very important in order to provide competitive advantages and to make this superiority sustainable. Therefore, green organization functions have taken the place of classical functioning in organizations. Green organizations have a strategic importance in terms of using resources economically, developing green awareness towards nature and making this awareness sustainable. In this way, while the costs of the organizations decrease, the corporate image is also positively affected. While the main purpose of the top management in traditional management approaches was to produce and market the needed product or service, today, in addition to this purpose, environmental awareness has been added as an extension of corporate social responsibility. In this direction, in addition to the basic objectives of the organizations, it is ensured that they use their resources economically with green environmental awareness, reduce their costs and contribute to the sustainability of the resources. In this section, under the title of green organization, it is emphasized the place and importance of some functions in the management of organizations such as human resources management, production and marketing. At the same time, it is aimed to investigate the current studies on green organizations in the literature. According to the result, green environmental policies come first among the corporate social responsibilities of organizations. A green organization with environmentally friendly strategies, sustainability and green behavior is a beacon of hope for future generations. Sustainable green strategies give organizations a competitive advantage.

Türkiye’de Enflasyonun Bazı Nedenleri ve Sonuçları

Author(s): Niyazi GÜMÜŞ / Language(s): Turkish Publication Year: 0

Author(s): Ayşe Arı / Language(s): Turkish Publication Year: 0

Environmental pollution and inflation are among the most important problems for developing countries. In recent years, it has been stated that there is a relationship between instability in inflation and environmental pollution. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of inflation instability on CO2 emissions for the Turkish economy. In this context, the period of 1974-2015 was analyzed by using the Bayern-Hanck (2013) cointegration test and, FMOLS and CCR estimators. According to the results, inflation instability has positive impact on CO2 emissions. It is also seen that the increase in energy consumption, trade openness and economic growth cause increase in CO2 emissions. The development of the financial sector is negatively related to CO2 emissions. In conclusion, we can say that a stable inflation and a strong financial system will contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions. For this reason, the authorities will be able to gain in both respects by implementing policies to ensure stability in inflation which also contribute to the reduction of environmental pollution.

Author(s): Aydan Arasan Türe,Betül Yüce Dural / Language(s): Turkish Publication Year: 0

The EU Green Deal aims to transition to a circular economy in order to prevent the climate crisis and to use resources efficiently, especially by supporting changes in production with digital solutions. It is predicted that many sectors will be affected by these changes and will face threats and opportunities. Since the Turkish white goods sector is an important exporter of the EU, it has to adapt to this change in order to maintain its competitiveness and gain an advantage. This study evaluates the current situation of the sector and evaluates the applicability of green and digital transformation in the sector by using SWOT and PEST analysis methods. As a result of the analyses made, it was determined that Turkey's technological infrastructure should be strengthened for the development of the Turkish white goods sector, exchange rate fluctuations had a negative impact on the development of the sector and thus slowed down the adaptation to the green and digital transformation process. It has been concluded that the Green Deal and digital transformation are a priority issue for the protection and development of the mature ecosystem of the Turkish white goods industry in the international market.

Neoliberal Politikalar ve Döngüsel Ekonomi Çerçevesinde Dünya Ekonomisinin Dizaynina Yönelik Eleştirel Bir Bakış: Afrika ve Latin Amerika Ülkeleri

Author(s): Erdem Selman Develi / Language(s): Turkish Publication Year: 0

IMPROVEMENT OF TEXTILE MATERIALS CONSUMER PROPERTIES THROUGH THE USAGE OF NATURAL DYES FROM WASTE OF CONIFEROUS PLAIN

Author(s): Irina Krotova,Vladimir Boev / Language(s): English Publication Year: 0

The relevance of the results is due to the need to solve a set of problems related to both the expansion of the range of marketable products obtained from waste from coniferous plants and the reduction of environmental damage to the environment by wood processing enterprises. A process for the extraction of a complex of coloring substances from the bark of larch, fir and Siberian spruce was developed and implemented in laboratory conditions with an environmentally safe and cheap solvent – water. The modes of concentration and drying of natural dyes without loss of their color characteristics and other consumer properties have been developed. The possibility of using the obtained dyes for dyeing both natural and synthetic fibers is shown. The study of their biocidal activity in relation to sanitary indicative microorganisms made it possible to create textile materials with bactericidal properties.

CHALLENGES FOR THE AGRI-FOOD SECTOR TO REDUCE GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS

CHALLENGES FOR THE AGRI-FOOD SECTOR TO REDUCE GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS

Author(s): Damyan Kirechev / Language(s): English Publication Year: 0

The report examines changes in the dynamics of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from agrifood production in Bulgaria, focusing on the production of cereals and food of animal origin. Emissions reductions are mostly due to production reductions, but modern practices are needed to transform production relations in the agrifood sector in order to reduce GHG emissions. The food sector must increase its responsibility in relation to climate change, but this requires the introduction of circular models, the development of the bioeconomy and carbon farming.

Sustainable food production and processing—sustainable agriculture and biotechnological approaches in food chain

Author(s): Daniela Gwiazdowska,Katarzyna Marchwińska,Krzysztof Juś / Language(s): English Publication Year: 0

The current trend of the increasing human population as well as the evolution of consumption patterns, increasing food demand and growing amounts of food waste influence changes along the entire food chain, from agricultural systems and natural resources to processing. It is worth underlining that the agri-food industry is considered one of the most important sectors of economic development in the world. However, the increased demand for food is depleting natural resources, causing soil erosion, landscape biodiversity loss and environmental pollution worldwide, creating new challenges for food security and sustainable food production. Therefore, sustainable agriculture and new technologies and approaches play an increasingly significant rolein reducing negative environmental impacts while ensuring food safety. It stays in line with the model of food production development promoted by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, according to which sustainable agriculture means the production of healthy, high-quality food in an environmentally friendly way, caring for animal welfare and protecting biodiversity, as well as ensuring income for farmers. This approach is also consistent with many concepts focused on the issue of sustainable, eco-friendly food production, such as development of sustainable agriculture, the One Health concept, Climate-Smart Agriculture, the European Green Deal and the Farm to Fork Strategy, strongly emphasising efforts to create a healthier and more sustainable food system.

Digitalisation in agri-food sector

Digitalisation in agri-food sector

Author(s): Krzysztof Wójcicki,Justyna Górna,Ewa Sikorska / Language(s): English Publication Year: 0

The progress of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (called Industry 4.0) is driven by the development of cutting-edge digital technologies. Digital transformation is changing not only the manner of production, but also the definition of quality and the manner of quality management. The idea of Quality 4.0 refers both to the development of new technologies for quality assurance and control, as well as to changes in the culture of quality management. Industry 4.0 technologies are increasingly used in food production, leading to the development of Agri-food 4.0. They serve, for example, to control and implement production using automatic machines and robots. Invasive or remote sensors are used to monitor the environment, crops, farming conditions, processing operations and products throughout the entire supply chain. The use of the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, big data and cloud computing enables advanced planning, control and optimisation of production. The use of digital technologies in the agri-food industry positively affects the quality and safety of food and has a positive impact on the efficiency of enterprises. At the same time, digital transformation is an opportunity to develop sustainable practices throughout the food supply chain. In this chapter, we present the idea of Industry 4.0 and Quality 4.0 as well as examples of the use of digital technologies in the agri-food sector.

Packaging supporting food sustainability

Packaging supporting food sustainability

Author(s): Mariusz Tichoniuk,Karolina Wiszumirska / Language(s): English Publication Year: 0

The chapter generally presents a new approach to the design of packaging and packaging materials that supports food sustainability. Concern for environmentally friendly packaging and packaging materials drives the development of their design for recycling and increasing popularity of reusable packaging. Food sustainability is also one of the main prerequisites in the packaging optimum approach and ensuring product accessibility via its packaging applied in the supply chain. Active packaging systems allow for extending the shelf life of food, and intelligent packaging supports the reduction of food waste and losses. Modern solutions for automatic data collection, such as RFID tags and geolocation systems, can also support the management of data on food products in logistics. The chapter presents successively new approaches to packag ingdesign, design for recycling, reusable packaging, and smart packaging solutions supporting food sustainability.

Food labelling system—consumers’ perspective

Author(s): Katarzyna Włodarska,Katarzyna Pawlak-Lemańska,Maria Sielicka-Różyńska,Urszula Samotyja / Language(s): English Publication Year: 0

The information placed on labels is intended to serve consumers by providing them with information about composition, nutritional quality and shelf life of food products as well asto promote waste-prevention behaviour and support sustainable food systems. Even though consumers declare interest in the information on labels, their knowledge of the composition and nutritional value of the products and understanding of this information (e.g., nutritional factstable, minimum durability date: “best before”, and “use by” date) is often insufficient. European and international health institutions and societies are now placing great emphasis on developing clear and comprehensive information to consumers about the properties of food products and their impact on health, using legislative instruments and recommendations. The aim of this chapter is to discuss the latest research showing how food labelling can support consumers in their healthy and sustainable purchasing decisions.

Зеленият (ESG) маркетинг, необходимост от трансформации на търговските банки

Зеленият (ESG) маркетинг, необходимост от трансформации на търговските банки

Author(s): Vania Krusteva / Language(s): Bulgarian Publication Year: 0

Climate change has posed new challenges for central banks, regulators and supervisors. As a result, environmental, social and governance standards are becoming increasingly key to the reputation of banks. In the growing environment of challenges facing commercial banks – digitalisation, new competitors, variable interest rates, regulation and more – it is unacceptable to downplay environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues when it comes to the need for largescale transformation. Until recently, ESG departments existed as divisions that were not deeply connected to the bank's overall strategy, customer and product offerings, or incentive schemes. The reasons for embedding ESG standards and practices in all functions stem from a broader transformation project and to involve everyone from the senior executives (C-suite) to the local bank branch. ESG is a central driver for the radical, end-to-end transformation required of European banks and an important key challenge they need to address alongside credit, costs, consolidation and technology. ESG is positioned as the new litmus of good banking practice based on three converging trends. The first is climate change and the need to finance the decarbonisation of economic activities, which promises to open up new areas of activity for banks. The second is reputational, where banks and businesses that fail to meet their ESG commitments risk being accused of greenwashing. The third is regulation that will require banks to measure and disclose ESG risks in their loan portfolios and other banking activities, as well as the impact of their activities across a wider range of environmental, social and governance considerations. As a consequence of these reasons, ESG standards are expected to be crucial for the reputation of banks. In the coming years, banks that have a lead in this process will be more competitive and will gain reputational advantages over their competitors. Green (ESG) marketing and digital transformation are two important trends in the commercial banking sector that reflect the growing emphasis on sustainability, environmental responsibility and the adoption of digital technologies. Let's explore how these two aspects intersect: This article presents the reasons, nature, benefits and possible downsides of the impact of green marketing on financial institutions, as well as the importance of the digital transition and ESG standards for the well-being of the economy's foundational sector.

GEOPOLITIKA NE MOŽE ODGODITI ZELENU TRANZICIJU U SRBIJI

Author(s): Dragan Đuričin / Language(s): Serbian Publication Year: 0

These days the global economy and humanity as a whole are in deep and permanent regression. Due to continuous making and widening of imbalances, the economy fell in a confluence of crises (cascading crisis, rolling crisis or a crisis in the system of crises). Along with the economy, the planet has fallen in a serious trap of dying slowly but surely. Finding systemic solutions to growing imbalances both in the economy and the planet as a whole is the imperative of our time. The so-called “green transition” is a big idea to mitigate current crisis and make a recovery. From an economic perspective, it is a way to nullify the existing structural imbalances of economic neoliberalism and misconceptions of related reactive policies, as well as a platform backing sustainable and inclusive economic growth in balance with the limits of nature. This approach is particularly suitable for developing economies that aspire to catch up with the developed world through new industrialization. In this paper, we attempt to concentrate, among dozens of complex issues concerning the transition from an old to a new economic order, on those solutions pertaining to the economic system adjustments in line with the natural limits in a landlocked, small, open, and developing national economy such as Serbia. The great majority of economics scholars have agreed upon the root causes of the current economic crisis as well as the key assumptions regarding problem solutions. In defining our proposals, despite different angles, we intend to integrate the most effective elements of a widely accepted but outside-the-box view. It is not certain for how long the current crisis will last. Some crisis management actions are already being implemented. Unfortunately, it is not enough. To reverse the regression trend, four questions need to be answered. How to adjust local actions to global priorities? What would be a feasible and effective growth model and conceptual platform of economic policy for the crisis mitigation along with the subsequent revival and set-up of a sustainable and inclusive economy? How to coordinate transformative activities in the right direction at the local level? How to weight different instruments to finance the transition from a new normal to a better normal, particularly from the perspective of the goal function and performance measurement system within basic economic agents? To answer the previous questions, the economic theory and policy should abandon the nexus of neoliberal rules, in both microeconomics and macroeconomics, and adopt a new nexus of economic rules, capable of explaining the real behavior of economic agents, sometimes irrational and inconsistent as explained by behavioral economics, but always under and “universal connectivity” as a dominant free good in the post-industrial age, as well as under the impact of natural limits. The above requires the implementation of the circular model of growth and heterodox economic policy platform. Following the previous line of reasoning, the material is organized in four parts, besides Introduction and Conclusion. The Part 1 discusses unsustainability of the current growth model and related economic policy platform and underlines the necessity for a truly radical paradigm change to mitigate the structural crisis and to set up a new conceptual platform for sustainable and inclusive growth. The Part 2 is focused on the reasons why reactive economic policies failed during a structural crisis. The Part 3 proposes the green transition as a breakthrough idea for radical system change. The Part 4 analyzes the macroeconomic performance and development opportunities of Serbia as prerequisites for the transition toward a greener economy.
