Новоразкрит надпис върху свитъка на пророчица Анна от църквата "Св. Петър" при село Беренде

Author(s): Christo Andreev / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 1/2005

In this brief report is published a newly uncovered mural inscription in the Church of St. Peter near the village of BerendØ, which can be seen on the scroll held by the prophetess Anne in the scene of Presentation of Christ in the Temple. In translation it reads: “This Infant created/strengthened the Heavens and the Earth.” It is established that the text in this form appeared in the above scene from the period of the Comnenes onwards and is identical with that of examples in Nerezi, Bachkovo, Mileßevo, Sopo ani, Arile, Staro Nagorichino, Graanica, Staniene, Deani, Ohrid, Kremikovtsi, Poganovo, and others. The author puts forward the assumption that its origins are linked to the homiletic tradition of the feast of Presentation of Christ in the Temple. In conclusion, certain linguistic features are discussed, pointing to links of the inscription to the West-Bulgarian orthographic tradition.

Кибер–пънк

Author(s): Dimiter Kabaivanov / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 2/2004

According to the existing (at this stage) theory of virtual reality - the virtual reality that is modeled by a computer is perceived as audio-visual (but having impact on other organs of perception, i.e. widening the scope of its perception) environment created with artificial means, which is presented or perceived by the subject of its impact as real or almost real. All this is directly linked to the cinema as a screen art, especially at its present stage of development when computer technologies (and especially those creating virtual reality in particular) play an important role. Of special interest here is cyber-punk as a cultural (particularly in the cinema) genre and style. In our academic and research literature the problems of the aesthetic and technological dimensions of the cyber-punk phenomenon practically have not been subject to study, while in world literature the approach to this cultural phenomenon is mainly technological, while the scientists working on the aesthetic and artistic questions are an exception.

The knowledge triangle is a basic factor for the development of innovation. The science is directed towards the practical applying of the research. The feedback from industry improves the opportunity to develop creative potential. The education becomes practically oriented. The business has the opportunity to make use of the scientific potential of the research organiations and universities and to get the needed research, technology, economic analysis and solutions, as well as to obtain well trained specialists. The creation of technology transfer offices is one of the main tools for promoting the technological entrepreneurship and realization of mediation among the research organizations and universities with companies, whose activity and sustainable growth are based on access to the results of research and development. In pursuance of the project № BG161P003-1.2.02-0022-C0001 with beneficiary Burgas Free University, co-financed by Operative Programme „Development of the Competitiveness of the Bulgarian Economy” 2007-2013, have been realized new models of effective partnership and dialogue of enterprises and organizations with research institutes and universities that can be disseminated as „best practices”. The article presents briefly the aims and objectives of the project as a whole and some of the main results achieved.

Author(s): Barbara Krupa / Language(s): English Issue: 4/2023

The article discusses the cultural themed broadcasts prepared by a Polish emigree writer and painter, Zygmunt Haupt (1907–1975) for Voice of America in a period between 1951 and 1960. The collection of almost 600 works in total is a major part of Haupt’s archive housed at the Special Collection at Stanford University Libraries in California entitled Zygmunt Haupt Papers, 1939–1976. It includes overviews of specific series and details on individual pieces that were focused on literature, music, art, organizations, events and cultural phenomena in the country, and in exile, in Western Europe and the United States. Even though Haupt was an employee of a government agency and was involved in ideological warfare, he was able to use his writing and painting skills to enrich the presented information. Games, Play and Gamification in the Bucharest Metropolitan Library as Seen through Facebook Posts

Author(s): Paula Grațiela CERNAMORIȚ / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2024

Games, play and gamification, used in organized public library programs, are ways in which libraries can attract a larger audience, especially those who are not yet interested in reading. In this way, contact with the library would enable them to find out about other resources that these cultural institutions offer, thus encouraging them to become regular patrons of non-game services. This paper aims to find out whether these new ways have been used in activities carried out with the public in the Bucharest Metropolitan Library. Research on games, play and gamification in public libraries is very limited in Romania and it could benefit researchers and librarians alike. A content analysis was done on the posts made on Facebook in 2023 by the Bucharest Metropolitan Library. The findings of the study showed that games, play and gamification were used mostly in thematic activities combined with reading, learning and creative workshops. Collaboration with institutions, associations and other organizations has increased the quality of the services offered. The research is valuable in that it presents activities in which librarians have used games, play and gamification, thus offering ideas for all Romanian librarians who could implement these tools on a larger scale in our public libraries.

Literary Works Generated by Artificial Intelligence: Methodology, Achievements, Dilemmas

Literary Works Generated by Artificial Intelligence: Methodology, Achievements, Dilemmas

Author(s): Constantina Raveca Buleu / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2024

The literary works written by Artificial Intelligence represent a bet with the future, but there are already a few notorious achievements in the field whose number keeps growing, along with the increasing amount of questions and dilemmas generated by the phenomenon, divided, for the moment, between the utopian belief of those who hope that AI “authorship” will be endowed with limitless creativity and the rational scepticism of those who believe that AI creation is actually predetermined by the intrinsic limitations induced by the programming mathematics or the computing logarithms. The list of the literary works generated by ChatGPT or RNN (Recurrent Neural Network) is constantly diversifying, covering a quite surprising area of topics, from 1 The Road (2017), a computerised rewriting of the famous novel On the Road belonging to Jack Kerouac, to The Serious: A Proven Divorce, a hybrid, nonsensical text generated in 2019 by the linguistic model char-rnn-tensorflow. We even have a Sci-Fi eschatology model about the various ways Artificial Intelligence can finish our lives (50 Ways AI Would End the World), while another intriguing scenario is The Inner Life of an AI: A Memoir (2022), about the subtle way Artificial Intelligence submerges into its subconscious in order to perform a self-analysis. My paper focuses on technicalities, controversies and validations issued by the classical criteria of the famous “Turing Test”, several of them being recalled in The Day a Computer Writes a Novel, a famous Japanese experiment completed in 2015, which summarizes the adventure of asking a system named GhostWriter to write two literary textssubsequently submitted for the Hoshi Sinichi Prize, a competition open for both human and non-human writers.
