Документалното наследство на издателска фамилия Юрукови и тяхната „Мозайка от знаменити съвременни романи“

Author(s): Malina Dimitrova / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 3/2023

The article is a fist attempt at present the correspondence fund of the Yurukovi family, with the purpose of presenting its basic information and general theme in the context of their contribution to Bulgarian publishing in the beginning of the 20th century. The documentary evidence is related to their family’s publishing business and in particular to the sequence “Tapestry of famous contemporary novels” which has not been previously made public in scientific literature. The epistological basis allowed us to reconstruct the roles of the most “valuable and prolific contributors” of their publishing house – the family members of the Yurukovi, who have not been previously investigated. More detail is added to the general publishing and book sales landscape in Bulgaria during that period, based on the newly presented facts.

Czy warto było? Umowa krakowska z 18 września 1891 r. O przyczynach oraz pokładanych w niej nadziejach i skutkach

Author(s): Janusz Pezda / Language(s): Polish Issue: 66/2021

The history of the Polish Library in Paris does not only mean the history of the Emigration but it also shows what was and still is the idea of shared thinking of history, taking action to preserve Polish institutions in a foreign land. It is the oldest non-French library in Paris, the oldest Polish library abroad. On November 24th 1838, at the request of Julian Ursyn Niemcewicz, the Polish Literary Society and its Historical Department and the Department of Statistics together with the Scientific Aid Society decided to combine their collections in order to set a national library. After years of efforts, the festive opening of the Library took place on March 24th 1839, on the anniversary of the oath taken by Tadeusz Kościuszko on the Krakow Main Square. Since 1854, after its relocation to the Île Saint-Louis, the Library has been sharing its collections uninterruptedly. In late 1890s, firstly in the form of non-binding questionnaire, a survey was started regarding the prospect of the Library to be continued in cooperation with a national institution. Talks on possible agreement have been initiated with the Academy of Learning in Krakow. Finally the Krakow Agreement was signed in 1891, under which the custody over the Library, its building and the gathered collections was taken over by the Academy of Learning and a research station was established.

Funny poems, humorous pseudo-biographies, cartoons – one may sometimes encounter them among private collections or the library and national archives resources. Written for namesday, farewell, Saint Nicolas Day or Women’s Day, they were of ephemeral nature and were quickly forgotten together with their author or recipient. As time went by, the profiles and situations were getting less and less recognisable. It is a pity, as sometimes these small pieces represented their author’s skill and contained an interesting picture of customs present in particular society. In this paper we present two such works related to the employees of Library, one written in 1967 and the other – probably – in 1982. The first one is a funny bibliography of academic and literary pieces allegedly written by them, containing references to their works, interests, sometimes real-life problems, looks or personality. In 1967, when the text was read on the occasion of Prima Aprilis, despite the efforts, the author remained unknown. Today, after more than 50 years, professor Jerzy Zdrada, a respected historian, then a dissident and minister, admitted the authorship. At that time, he was a young librarian at the Cataloguing Department. The author of the second work remains unknown. These are 23 small poems in which 23 female library employees have been described on the occasion of Women’s Day. They are also full of humour and accurate professional allusions, sometimes attempts to catch person’s traits of character. Both typescripts are currently included in our Library Manuscripts Collection. The texts have been prepared for print, the introduction written and footnotes added by Karolina Grodziska and Jerzy Zdrada. To him, as the author of the Bibliography, shall also be credited the identification of some hidden phrases as well as reminding of numerous interesting events from the history of the Library.

Знањем против обмане — изградња новински писменог друштва путем библиотека

Author(s): Jasmina Ninkov,Marjan Marinković / Language(s): Serbian Issue: 1/2023

The paper presents the international project ˮEnhancing Key Civic Competences for the Post-truth Era: News Literacy and Critical Thinking” dedicated to developing news literacy and implemented by the Belgrade City Library and three other partners within the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union. The paper provides essential details related to the project, such as its goals, target groups, partners, duration, and main activities. Additionally, the paper emphasizes the achieved results and hints at the project's future development. The project, known as ESSENTIAL, as the project’s acronym reads, has been recognized as a project of good practice in adult education in 2022. As such, it can be a paradigmatic example of how excellent results can be achieved through international cross-sector cooperation. The paper also showcases how libraries can utilize their potential and resources, such as good locations, space, technology, and highly qualified employees, to educate the local community. In a practical sense, the created and publicly available educational content and tools enable interested libraries (and other cultural institutions) to quickly introduce a new service – the education of citizens in news literacy. This is particularly important in the context of the development of public libraries as centres of non-formal education in their communities.

Lwowska Biblioteka Franciszkańska i jej dzieje

Author(s): Franciszek Solarz / Language(s): Polish Issue: 53 (2)/2021

The beginnings of the Franciscan library in Lviv date back to the Middle Ages. Settled in the monastery of St. Francis. From the very beginning, the Franciscans took care of its development. By buying books, even more often receiving them as gifts from benefactors or confreres, they kept multiplying it. She shared the fate of the monastery: its fire in 1733, and later its dissolution by the Austrian government. After the dissolution of the monastery, together with her brothers, it found itself in a new convent: the Immaculate Conception of Mary, sharing its fate again. Together with the monastery in 1833 it was not burned down. Reconstructed, it was interrupted until the Franciscans were expelled from Lwów by the Soviet authorities (April 26, 1946). Transferred to Poland, it still exists in the Franciscan Library (OFMConv) in Kraków and in the libraries of other monasteries in the province.

Tangible and Personalized Smart Museum Application

Author(s): Rosen Ivanov,Victoria Velkova / Language(s): English Issue: XIII/2023

This paper presents the architecture of a Web app designed to deliver personalized content to museum visitors both indoors and outdoors. The app uses a tangible type of interface to obtain information about the museum's exhibits. For this purpose, each exhibit can be associated with an NFC tag, a Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) beacon or a geofence in open-air museums. The service automatically profiles its users based on statistics about the preferred type of exhibits, media formats and time spent viewing each exhibit. Visitors can get the information they want about an exhibit even when the app is not running. Push notifications are used for this purpose. The necessary experiments have been conducted to prove the applicability of the service for real-time delivery of personalized content.
