IMAGE-BASED LANDSCAPE MODELING: ENVIRONMENT UNDERSTANDING AND VISUALIZATION WITH E-LEARNING FUNCTIONALITY

IMAGE-BASED LANDSCAPE MODELING: ENVIRONMENT UNDERSTANDING AND VISUALIZATION WITH E-LEARNING FUNCTIONALITY

Author(s): Athanasios Styliadis / Language(s): English Issue: 08/2008

Computer graphics, CAAD, e-learning, visualization and virtual reality technologies are increasingly used to communicate the implications of environment understanding and management changes in landscapes and biological systems, as well as in national parks and forests. Image-based and data visualization techniques can be used, not only by scientists but also by managers, the public, and desicion-makers, to comprehend massive databases, to interpret dynamic environmental changes, and to evaluate the range of outcomes likely from different management strategies. Recently, however, most developments have been fragmented, the links between different applications regarding learning, understanding and landscape visualization have been few and poor, and the validity and reliability of the visual representations regarding natural (landscape) phenomena have not been tested. This paper introduces (in an initial phase - as a discussion rather than as a well-definedmethod) a coordinated image-based e-learning environment with four modules: landscape data collection, tree modeling, landscape database and landscape data communication, for environment understanding, visualization, real-time interaction and management, and describes four relative goals for tree-based forest visualization with e-learning functionality.

The Geomorphological Characteritics Prerequisite of the Space Organisation in the South -East Part of the Ampoi Valley.Study of Research: Alba Iulia Town. The relief as an essential element in the organization of the space is an active constituent of which development is being reflected through a series of geographical changes under the incidence of a concurrence of elements. The geomorphologic hazards rendered evident in the urban and periurban space of the town join particularly in the category of gravitational and torential processes. The second, the third and the fourth rungs are affected. These hazards are decreasing the potentiality of utilization these phenomena. It would be very useful to elaborate some maps with the natural risks in order to correlate these problems with the future orientations regarding the extensions of the town.

SISTEMUL CARSTIC – ASPECTE TEORETICE

SISTEMUL CARSTIC – ASPECTE TEORETICE

Author(s): Szabolcs Farkas / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 08/2008

In our days, the reality is more and more regarded as a whole, as a system, with plenty of self-organised subsystems that are hierarchically organised. So is the karst system – a geomorphological system that has specific structure and functionality, having a sinergical effect through its functionality. In the last decades, some researchers of karst began to develop models of karst systems structure and functionality. In our work, we tried to understand the structure and functionality of karst system through its specific morphological forms: the exokarstical and the endokarstical forms, that are interrelated, especially in the mature phase of karst evolution, like the karst of Pădurea Craiului Mountains, Romania. These karst forms and their atributes can be regarded as morphological responses of karst system toward the impact of disturbing forces of the control factors that are working in the karst environment, being the expressions of sensitivity levels in the systems. In that approach, we may get closer in our researches to the model of „grey box” , instead of the „black box” model, at least morphologically. In that way, these informations could be used even by the speologists who are working in the field.

UN MODEL DE AMENAJARE TURISTICA A VAII AIUDULUI

UN MODEL DE AMENAJARE TURISTICA A VAII AIUDULUI

Author(s): Marian Muntean,Ioana Maria Muntean / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 07/2007

The future resort, Rimetea –Cheile Vălişoarei, is linked to the beautiful massifs Rachiş, Cheile Vălişoarei, Piatra Secuiului and the ethnography of the settlements by Aiud Valley. We propose that the future resort will be settled along Aiud Valley between Rimetea and Cheile Vălişoarei. Considering the immense value of the environment (comprizing many protected natural zones –a large part of Aiud Valley being included in Nature Site 2000 Trascău –of community importance) to which we add the value of the ethnography of the area, including Rimetea village which is part of UNESCO patrimony, and a series of historical monuments in Colţesti village, the resort Rimetea –Cheile Vălişoarei won’t be meant for mass tourism or weekend tourism, but will encourage cultural tourism, controlled so as not become a stress factor for the environment or historical monuments. The future resort will have hotels of aprox. 300 places and new pension. On the outskirts of Piatra Secuiului and Data, climbing the slopes, there will be infrastructural abilities specific to the mountains :challet, winter sports facilities, tourist paths, acces roads from Podeni and Sălciua. Along Aiud Valley there is the possibility of making ponds with fish, swimming pools and o sports park. We also propose the restauration of the medieval fortress Colţeşti, firstly by making an access road up to the fortress and organizing a permanent exhibition with objects and costumes specific to the 13th century and not only. There can also be organized climbing contests on the vertical slopes of the Cheile Vălişoarei. The districtual road 107 M Aiud –Buru will be asphalted and between the future resort and nearby towns/ villages there will be asphalted tracts that will allow access to the tourists pensions upward Rimetea and around Cheile Vălişoarei
