Author(s): Matylda Pachowicz / Language(s): Polish Issue: 2/2020

The time of closed schools and educational institutions during the COVID-19 pandemic has exposed existing social inequalities in terms of access to educational and therapeutic services in Poland. The introduction of compulsory remote teaching has made it difficult for a significant number of students (from poor areas or homes) to access education due to the limited possibilities of using new technologies and the internet. People with special developmental and educational needs and their families are in particularly difficult situations. Many of these families are disadvantaged due to the high costs they incur for rehabilitation and various therapies. This article describes special education and remote therapy during the COVID-19 pandemic and after relaunching revalidation and education classes in May 2020. The perspective of teachers, therapists and specialists working at the Educational, Rehabilitative and Pedagogical Centre was emphasized. The article presents the data collected on the basis of interview conducted during the closure of the Centre and after the relaunching of specialized classes. Therefore, qualitative research methods were used that allowed to outline the micro perspective.

Author(s): Helena Lajšić / Language(s): Bosnian,Croatian,Serbian Issue: 6/2021

Teaching with the support of information and communication technologies, multimedia and the Internet must be viewed as a modern teaching system that has great potential and perspective in the future. By applying information and communication technologies, we achieve the possibility of adapting the planned contents to different levels of students' knowledge, which conditions simpler adoption of new material. Teaching with the help of information and communication technologies should be observed as one of the modern approaches that has its adequate role in the educational system. Teachers have a crucial role in that process, because it depends on them the most how much students will acquire knowledge. Professional development programs for teachers in the field of information and communication technologies, multimedia and the Internet should be presented as a special area in the professional development program and introduced as part of the mandatory professional development. The COVID 19 pandemic fundamentally changed the daily lives of people, which also affected the functioning of education systems. The teaching process, almost overnight, switched to various online platforms, TV screens, Viber groups and other media.

Addressing Maritime Industry Feedback For Continuous Improvement: A Process Model

Author(s): Emeliza Estimo / Language(s): English Issue: 6s/2021

Stakeholders’ satisfaction is essential for sustainability. It provides opportunities for learning the strengths and weaknesses of an institution or organization to design and improve the quality of its services to promote goodwill and effective partnerships with the industry and the community. This descriptive study discusses and illustrates how a leading maritime university implements a process model for addressing industry feedback in the Philippines based on a trend of data gathered for nine consecutive years (2011 – 2019). This paper also mentions the actions taken by the University to address the issues and concerns raised by the industry stakeholders represented by shipping company Presidents, Crewing Managers, and Training Officers, particularly on the quality of graduates that it produces vis-à-vis the expectations of the industry. This study used the mixed methods of gathering data. The results revealed a trend in the level of satisfaction of the industry stakeholders, which point to a consistently high level of satisfaction with minimal declines at certain points from the quality of students that the school is producing to the quality of services provided over the years. Certain factors have been discussed as possibly influential in the decline of the stakeholders’ level of satisfaction. After implementing the work processes to address industry feedback, it was found to be working well and is now being considered by the administration as one of its best practices. To date, the University is continuously maximizing all strategies possible to sustain its performance in meeting the industry’s expectations.

Comparative Analysis Of The Contracts For Maritime Transport Services. Chain Of Charter Parties

Author(s): Svetlana Dimitrakieva,Ognyan Kostadinov,Christiana Atanasova / Language(s): English Issue: 6s/2021

A basic principle in Law is the freedom of contract. Particularly, in Private Shipping Law, contractual parties may agree on all lawful terms and conditions which are most appropriate for the performance of the carriage. During the years of maritime trade practice, different types of contracts has been created, as well as systems of Chain Charter Parities have been adopted, through all of which the relations between maritime traders were settled. All this has contributed to maritime commercial practices for the carriage to be carried out not only by the shipowners, but also by other maritime traders with the appropriate authority and competence.

The Stand For Fin Drives Energy Testing

Author(s): Andrej Grządziela,Tomislav Batur / Language(s): English Issue: 6s/2021

The development of recreational diving and the new biomimetic vehicles for civilian and military purposes indicates that fins drives’ effectiveness should be a standard research procedure. The different sizes, construction and technical solutions of fin thrusters are the reason that no standard has been introduced for evaluating their efficiency. The paper presents an episode of the research carried out as part of a project financed by The National Centre for Research and Development in Poland concerning fin drives development. The first chapter presents a literature analysis of currently used research methods. A different approach to assessing efficiency was indicated, ranging from the study of the diver’s respiratory efficiency to the manipulator measurement methods. The hydrodynamic parameters, which analyzed the propellers, including fins, and the fish swimming motility characteristics, were indicated. The next chapter presents the water tunnel for basic research with measuring equipment and the range of applications. The methodology for assessing the hydrodynamic and energy efficiency of fin’s drives is presented in the third chapter. The fins’ kinematics and dynamics analysis indicated an initial set of geometric, kinematic, and dynamic parameters for energy and functional assessment purposes. The scope of available tests covered issues complex to quantify unambiguously; hence the obtained results were initial. The form made this assessment of successive pool tests, the aim of which was to analyze the kinematics of the fin’s operation. The trials of a representative fins thruster and the comments indicate the test stand’s practical use for testing various propellers.

Petri Net Model of Supply Vessel Consumption as Function of the Nature of the Business and the State of the Wind and Sea

Author(s): Toni Meštrović,Danko Kezić,Ivica Pavić,Srdan Vukša / Language(s): English Issue: 7s/2021

The state of prices and the development of a given economy depends largely on the gas and oil industry. Every day the gas and oil industry is growing and there is a growing need for platforms. In order for the platforms to pump gas and oil from the seabed unhindered, it is necessary to supply the platform which is done by supply vessels. In this paper, with the help of Petri nets and the tool “Yasper”, the dynamic process of supply and operation of supply vessels is simulated. Simulation is depending on the wind and wave conditions and the type of work that the supply vessel performs in cooperation with the platform. Input data are: Sea state, wind state, fuel consumption, type of vessel operation, distance from the mainland and the number of daily departures of the vessels from the port. The paper presents a model with discrete events in the process of supplying the platform, starting from the port and going out to sea until the work around the platform is completed and returning to the port. The report can provide information on the usability of the vessels and the approximate cost of the supply vessels on a voyage from port to the platform and back.

Author(s): Albert Grapa,Edgar Lemoncito / Language(s): English Issue: 7s/2021

This study focused on the cadets' perception of the level of implementation of maritime security in coastwise trade in selected ports of Western Visayas, Philippines, based on the ISPS Code requirements applicable onboard vessels and in port. This study aims to: (1) Determine the level of implementation of domestic companies in terms of the ship security plan or certificate, security drills, control of visitors on board, identification of restricted areas onboard, and security equipment used; (2) Identify the challenges that domestic vessels experience in the implementation of these procedures; and (3) Find out how the cadets are engaged in the process of implementing the requirements in terms of security drills and control of visitors on board and the roles they are tasked to perform. A research-made instrument designed for cadets was used to gather the data. The results revealed that domestic companies' implementation is heightened during MARSEC Level 2, which happens when there is a heightened level and when security risk has become visible to security personnel. The greatest challenge as perceived by the cadets was specifically on technology advancement, which affects the security and equipment of the domestic vessels. The cadets are engaged in implementing the ISPS code on security drills and control of visitors on board by performing the roles assigned to them by their senior officers. Based on this study's results, it is recommended that emphasis must be given on topics in maritime security for the students to be equipped with this knowledge during their cadetship program. Training centers may enhance the maritime security training's effectiveness to include Seafarers with Designated Security Duties, Security Awareness Training, and Ship Security Assessment.

The Ukrainian education system has been involved into the process of distance learning because of epidemic prevention. So issues that needed immediate answers and solutions were stand behind the scenes of studying process. The main goal of study is to determine basic prologue of change was the fact that the remote form of organization of the educational process was due not only to the context of civilizational change and also to analyze independent factors of the development of education and culture, namely: epidemiological danger, so regardless of the level of preparedness of the educational process, technical and educational components, the transition took place in the shortest possible time. The novelty of presented research is made up first time analyzing the comparative history of distance learning in high and secondary school. Methodological base of study is comparative principle of distance learning in high educational system of Ukraine and in secondary school of our country. Conclusions. So, we can summarize that the establishment of the training system on the one hand took place during the implementation of real-time training, and on the other – the participants of the educational process (teachers, students, interns, graduate students, doctoral students, teachers, students, parents, administrative staff, etc.) give large and common personal influence at the distance learning process. However, the system of secondary education still received a short ―test period to implement the transformation of all elements of classroom learning to the distance one. High educational institutions in Ukrainian educational space has been somewhat improved in distance learning a bit faster than schools by the availability of online educational resources (Moodle, repository, web resources of higher education institutions with elements of self -study), which have not yet been widely used in secondary schools generally.

The article focuses on stories, revealing personal experiences related to the technology-mediated education caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and storytelling as a tool in qualitative research. Stories and storytelling may play an important part in qualitative research through presenting a unique, subjective view, which may contribute to the universal perspective. The transition to online teaching has been related to the pandemic, that constitutes a traumatic experience, generating further difficult experiences of an individual nature, which need to be told and shared. That is why, the research through storytelling in the context of the transition to online reality, caused by the pandemic seems to be adequate. Stories as natural phenomena to the human psyche and everyday existence may provide an interesting insight into online teaching, which might have been lost in the limitations of other research tools.

PRÜFUNGSINHALTE UND -FORMATE IM WANDEL

Author(s): Daniela Kohn / Language(s): German Issue: 14/2021

The last years brought changes in the field of German as a Foreign Language, which became visible in the teaching and learning of the foreign language as well as in the field of testing and assessment of language competences. On the one hand, the expansion of the CEFR/CV in 2020 brought the introduction of descriptors for mediation, as well as an expansion of descriptors for other competencies. These are slowly finding their place in the new exam formats as well. On the other hand, the Corona pandemic in 2020/21 has affected the field of education and not only fundamentally, the teaching and examination mode has been switched to distance mode for a long time and minimizing the risk of infection has been considered a major concern in universities and colleges. To these factors, for the design of the examination formats must be added the specifics of each university, in our case the Medical and Pharmaceutical University "Victor Babeș" Timișoara.

DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY USE DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC AND ITS RELATIONS TO SLEEP QUALITY AND LIFE SATISFACTION IN CHILDREN AND PARENTS

Author(s): Marina Kotrla Topić,Vanesa Varga,Sara Jelovčić / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2021

This research aimed to examine digital technology (DT) use, sleep quality (SQ), and the correlations between these variables in children and parents, in Croatia during the lockdown. Furthermore, it aimed to determine parental life satisfaction (LS) and its relation to DT use. In an online questionnaire, 281 parents of children (3 to 14 years old) provided information about the duration of DT activities throughout the pandemic, compared to the time before the pandemic, the time spent using digital devices in a typical day, and SQ for themselves and their children, as well as the estimates of personal LS. The results show that the relationship between DT use and SQ during the lockdown differs between parents and children. More time spent using DT devices is not related to SQ in parents, and more time spent on smartphones is positively associated with parents' LS. In children, the prolonged use of smartphones for leisure is negatively linked to SQ. These results call for caution in allowing children longer screen time.

IZVORI STRESA, DEPRESIVNOST I AKADEMSKO FUNKCIONIRANJE STUDENATA ZA VRIJEME PANDEMIJE COVID-19

Author(s): Ivanka Živčić-Bećirević,Sanja Smojver-Ažić,Tamara Martinac Dorčić,Gorana Birovljević / Language(s): Croatian Issue: 2/2021

The aim of the study was to examine the sources of stress that students experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic with respect to gender and change of residence, as well as the relation between specific sources of stress, depressive symptoms and self-rated academic functioning. The study included 923 students aged 19 to 28 (73 % females). The students completed the Stress Source Questionnaire, the Academic Functioning Questionnaire, and the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS-21). Four groups of stress sources have been identified. The consequences of isolation represent the strongest stress source, followed by academic stress, the possibility of infection, and family sources of stress. Females experience all sources of stress more intensely than males, and students who changed their residence experience family problems and the consequences of isolation more stressfully than students who live continuously in their families. All sources of stress, except possible infection, are significant predictors of depression, while depression is a significant additional predictor of students' self-rated academic functioning after controlling for gender, change of residence, and sources of stress. The consequences of isolation, as a source of stress, have the strongest effect on depression and self-rated academic functioning.
