Academician Mariam Lortkipanidze (1922-2022), a prominent Georgian historian and public figure, left a rich scientific legacy behind her. She wrote approximately 200 works, including several monographs and scholarly articles, which contributed significantly to the development of Georgian medieval studies, shedding light on many previously unresolved issues. At the same time, Mariam Lortkipanidze passionately and enthusiastically responded to the pressing issues of public life. The article discusses the main aspects of academician Mariam Lortkipanidze’s scientific work and highlights her contributions to the study of the history of medieval Georgia.

W nocy z 18 na 19 listopada 2022 r. w Warszawie, w swoim mieszkaniu odeszła Barbara Elżbieta Wrona, wieloletnia bibliotekarka arabistyki UW. Absolwentka (1970) pierwszego ‘autonomicznego’ rocznika arabistyki, tego, który rozpoczął studia w samodzielnej placówce arabistycznej UW. Należeli do niego m.in. Janusz Danecki i Ewa Machut-Mendecka, bliska przyjaciółka Basi. W trakcie studiów, w 1968 roku, wraz z Ewą Machut i Bogusławem Zagórskim współorganizowała przyszłe Towarzystwo Przyjaźni Polsko-Arabskiej (w chwili powstania nosiło nazwę Studencki Klub Przyjaźni Polsko-Arabskiej), w którym później, w siedzibie na Wilczej, przez wiele lat prowadziła kursy języka arabskiego.
