This article examines current discussions of the European Revolutions of 1848 in light of the larger evolution of Anglo-American and French historiography since the second half of the twentieth century. Although focusing in particular on French history, the article suggests why some knowledge of the trends driving this evolution is necessary for improving our understanding of 1848's political and social importance.

In the 13th century, Kazakhstan became part of the Golden Horde State. With the disintegration of this state, Khans emerged. The struggle for existence in the Kazakh lands, which was under the threat of many states, especially the Mongols, began. The Cossacks who lived under these conditions were always exposed to invasion. Especially in the last century, the process that started with the divide-and-rule policy of the Russian Empire has evolved into another direction with the Soviets coming to power. The new regime initiated artificial starvation, collectivization and collective farms in the ancient Kazakh lands. Ultimately, there was a huge reduction in population potential. People of the Slavic race were settled in their place. In 1991 the Soviet Union dissolved. Kazakhstan, living under the administration of the USSR, declared its independence and made socio-economic breakthroughs. Nursultan Nazarbayev, who was elected the first President of the country, made a great contribution to the formation of modern Kazakhstan. Even at that time, he foresaw the disintegration of the Soviet Union and began to establish his national state. In this article, the secret construction activities of Nursultan Nazarbayev before the ancient history of Kazakhstan and the independence process will be discussed.

The War of Independence was a life and death struggle for the Turkish nation. Despite all the deprivations and impossibilities, this war was won with a national spirit and the Republic of Turkey was established. The War of Independence is the national struggle of the Turkish nation. In this national struggle, everyone, regardless of whether they are men, women, young or old, has a contribution. Thousands of martyrs were given in the national struggle. Most of those who went to the front did not return, they did not receive any news. Those who waited behind have waited for years for the day they would return. What those who returned in this expectation told about those who did not come has always been hope. One of our martyrs who did not return is Imam’s Hüsnü from Ordu. For years, no news has been heard from Imam’s Husnu, and what a friend of the Imam’s friend, who went to the army with him, has told. Imam’s Hüsnü was born in the village of Yukarıkızilen in the Ulubey district of Ordu. According to what is told about him, he fell to the ground in the prime of his life in the Battle of Sakarya in 1921, during the struggle with the Greeks around Haymana. His grave is unknown. His daughter, whom he left in the cradle while going to war, died at the age of eighty-three. His grandchildren live in Düzce. Information about Imam's Husni is limited to what those who went to the army with him and returned. The life stories of our national struggle and all our martyrs are very important for our national unity and solidarity. In this study, Imam's Hüsnü, whose life and his actions in the war became legendary, was researched and the stories about him were compiled and tried to be matched with historical records.

One of the most important topics of Croatia accession to the EU was cooperation with International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in Den Haag. ICTY was created by the international community to prosecuted war crimes committed during the wars in the former Yugoslavia in the 1990es. In Croatia, there was an opinion that the court will prosecute only Serbia and there was a shock when the first indictments were sent for war crimes committed by Croatian forces. A personification of this process was general Ante Gotovina, who was accused among others as a member of a joint criminal enterprise but, in the end, he was found not guilty. At the same time, some parts of Croatian society and media started to build a mythical status around Ante Gotovina. This paper will analyze this type of media coverage and how it did shape opinion and consequentially created a modern myth around Gotovina.

The paper is based on reports of the U.S. special representative on duty in Central Europe, Arthur Wood DuBois, on Slovenia and Croatia from December 1919 and May 1920. During his two visits, DuBois made four reports from the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes that specifically viewed the situation on Slovenian and Croatian territory, where his interlocutors were leading officials in the Provincial Governments in Ljubljana and Zagreb. His visits took place during two different and politically opposed governments, so DuBois had the opportunity to hear representatives of two political options, the centralists and the federalists. The emphasis of the paper is placed on DuBois’ account of difficulties in foreign policy relations of the Kingdom of SCS and Austria, communist activity, and differences in the political and national characteristics of Slovenes, Croats and Serbs.

The origins of Hungarian journalism in Romania are linked to the political emigration of 1849. Following the intensely national/regional struggles that took on the character of a civil war, its actors endeavored to nurture within their readers a sense of love for the trampled homeland, while simultaneously fostering feelings of respect and gratitude towards the host country. This study examines the evolving mission of reconciliation and mediation undertaken by the Hungarian weekly newspapers in Romanian Old Kingdom throughout a span of over five decades, during which the relationship between the two nations was burdened by perceived and genuine grievances, leading to suspicion and animosity. The scheming of Viennese agents, the imposition of official censorship, the scarcity of literate readers, and the absence of the Hungarian character set represented minor obstacles. Despite the sensational and domineering expressions of the domestic press workers and the inundation of false anti-Hungarian accusations in the Romanian journalism that infected both national and European public opinion, the Hungarian press in the Romanian Old Kingdom presented examples of historical shared destiny in a measured and constructive tone, offering the singularly valid long-term recipe for reconciling the two neighbor peoples adrift in a Slavic and Germanic sea without companions.

The article is devoted to the history of the study of the relationship between the Ukrainian and Romanian states in 1917-1918. The fall of the Russian Empire, the continuation of the First World War, the proclamation of the Ukrainian and Moldavian People's Republics formed new geopolitical realities in East Central Europe, including in the resolution of territorial disputes. The author came to the conclusion that in Ukrainian historiography the problem of Ukrainian-Romanian relations during the period of revolutions remains on the margins of scientific interests. The focus of the researchers is, first of all, the “Bessarabian question“. That is, intergovernmental discussions about the belonging of the multi-ethnic Bessarabian province. This administrative unit was interpreted by Kyiv as a potential part of the UPR. Also, the Romanian issues were considered in the context of contacts with the countries of the Entente and the Quadruple Alliance. After the proclamation of the annexation of the Moldavian Republic to the Romania in 1918, this problem was transferred by scientists into a wider format of research of interstate relations. Which also involves the analysis of economic sanctions by Ukraine.

The article presents the results of a historiographical study of the role of the Ukrainian church in the cultural area of the diaspora. The peculiarities of the foundation and functioning of Ukrainian churches of different confessions outside Ukraine, have been analyzed. The conditions of forming church centers of the Ukrainian diaspora and their functions have been considered. The Ukrainian church in the diaspora is seen as one of the ways of existential rootedness of immigrants on a new cultural and historical basis. The significant contribution of Ukrainian priests to the creation of a favorable socio-psychological climate in the Ukrainian diaspora, in particular, and to the cultural development of the countries of residence in general is emphasized. It is argued that the religious faith and the institution of the Ukrainian church are a way to preserve national identity and a means of existential rootedness of Ukrainian immigrants on a new cultural and historical basis.

Referring to the concept of the nation by Ernst Renan and the nation-building process of Antonina Kłoskowska, as well as based on Samuel Huntington’s statements the author attempts to verify the hypothesis that the Polish national community retaining its demographic and ethnocultural core, undergoes Ukrainization in the sphere of collective consciousness. For this purpose, using the causal explanation and integral explanation of political actions and phenomena developed by Tadeusz Klementewicz, analyzes the impact of migration on nation-building processes, the status of Ukrainian citizens in Poland, the problems of assimilation and integration, and what speaks for the Ukrainization of the Polish nation.

The war in Croatia began with the aggression of the Yugoslav People’s Army and Serbian rebels in 1991 on Croatian towns, settlements and villages. As a consequence of the aggression against the Republic of Croatia, battlefields were formed as early as 1991. One of the most active was the Lika battlefield where, after a series of preparations, the quick and effective military-police operation called Pocket-93 was carried out. The operation was carried out on 9th September 1993, and its goal was to tactically liberate a part of the occupied territory of the Republic of Croatia, to eliminate part of the artillery threat from the town of Gospić, to destroy the enemy’sreconnaissance and sabotage bases, to shorten the frontline and to create its own free forces. One of the more important goals was to demonstrate the ability of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Croatia to carry out an offensive operation and thereby let the enemy know that their hostile military activities would no longer be tolerated with impunity. Based on archival material and recent literature, the authors have analysed the Pocket-93 military-police operation and its tactical and operational significance.
