MODEL DJELOVANJA JAVNOG PODUZEĆA ZA POHRANU NUKLEARNOG OTPADA

MODEL DJELOVANJA JAVNOG PODUZEĆA ZA POHRANU NUKLEARNOG OTPADA

Author(s): Ognjen Čaldarović,Ivan Rogić / Language(s): Croatian Issue: 02/1992

The paper deals with the major sociological characteristics which have to be established, so that an agency for dealing with hazardous materials can function in Croatia. The paper is based on a research project realized in the Institute for Applied Social Research in Zagreb and represents the first phase of a broader project on nuclear waste. The authors emphasize that the agency must be placed at equal distance from the three main subjects in society - the state, the public and the pollutors. The major frame of reference emphasized by the authors within which the agency should be functioning is concern for the environment combined with an unbiased global position of the agency. The authors discuss 5 major features of the agency - (1) the institutional position of the agency, (2) the competence of the agency, (3) the position of the agency in the public, (4) the composition of the team of experts needed for running the agency, and (5) the global ecological philosophy of the agency.

Módszertani tapasztalatok a VoltEgySzer prevenciós alkalmazás pilot kutatásának eredményei alapján

Author(s): Máté Kapitány-Fövény,Eszter Vagdalt,Zsófia Ruttkay / Language(s): Hungarian Issue: 3/2019

In the past years, there has been a growing interest toward the utility of fully automated online applications and web-based programs, of which many are made for preventive purposes. The current study aims to evaluate the preliminary results of a pilot study that assessed the efficacy of Once Upon a High from a methodological point of view, as well as to formulate recommendations regarding the planning of similar prevention programs in the future. The application showed significant associations with reduced past month energy drink consumption frequencies, a trend like increase in the knowledge about psychoactive substances and the frequency of physical exercise, and a partial connection with reduced past month alcohol consumption frequencies. The most effective modules of the application were characterized by gaming elements, indicating that gamification might be a beneficial approach, increasing the efficacy of such interventions. The pilot efficacy study of the Once Upon a High app altogether resulted in positive outcomes as well as some negative experiences that need to be considered regarding the further developments of the application.

РОДНА ДИМЕНЗИЈА СИРОМАШТВА И АДАПТАЦИЈА НА КЛИМАТСКЕ ПРОМЕНЕ

Author(s): Snežana Živković,Slobodan Milutinović,Ivana Lj. Ilić Krstić / Language(s): Serbian Issue: 3/2019

The latest World Bank report for 2016 on the impact of climate change on poverty states that climate change could lead to a growth of extremely poor population to the extent that 100 million people might be pushed into poverty by 2030. The report emphasizes that climate change can have different impacts, in particular negative ones, on the poor, who are unprepared for climate shock waves, such as sea level rise or large-scale droughts. The poor possess fewer resources and receive less support from their families or through local communities, the financial system, and even through social security measures, which is why they do not have sufficient capacity to adapt to climate change. Specific population groups, such as women and children, are particularly vulnerable. Omly few theoreticians have dealt with the question of how to help poor countries and poor communities in certain countries to face climate change, while focusing specially on the gender dimension of poverty. The World Bank report also states that efforts to protect the poor should include better access to healthcare and social security measures, improved protection against floods, and development of crops that are more resilient to high temperatures, all for the purpose of preventing the worst possible impacts of climate change on the poor. However, it needs to be stressed that any adaptation to climate change has to incorporate the gender dimension of poverty. Therefore, this paper will provide only a small contribution to the analysis of the issues pertaining to the gender dimension of poverty and its relation to climate change adaptation.

İKLİM DEĞİŞİKLİĞİ VE KENTSEL ALANDA SELLER: BEŞİKDÜZÜ SELİ (2016) ÖRNEĞİ

Author(s): Levent MEMİŞ,Sönmez DÜZGÜN / Language(s): Turkish Issue: 45/2020

The environmental problems that increase the impact of climate change, temperature increases and sudden rainfall began to respond more intensely in the daily life of the citizens. When there are no studies to reduce the risks and adaptation to these situations, loss of life and property is in question. When the population and values of the cities are taken into consideration, the level of losses that may occur increases. Therefore, urban climate change also raises effective water management. In the context of this statement, the main subject of the study is urban floods due to climate change. Floods occurring in the urban area are handled through urbanization and examined in the example of the settlement of Beşikdüzü District. The research is carried out within the scope of case study, which is one of the qualitative research methods, and the data are obtained with different tools. According to the general findings, the district is located where eight streams meet the sea. The district expanded horizontally over time, which brought intervention to the creeks. Although some studies have been carried out in order to reduce flood risks, the main reasons for floods in 2016 are the closure of streams within the settlement area, failure to take measures such as upside down, the drifting of rural agricultural wastes and trees with flood waters and preventing the passage in the channel. Flood constitutes an important agenda of the Eastern Black Sea Region and is expected to be in the future. Considering this situation, it is important for the region to carry out studies by gathering different disciplines on the subject.

Educatia ecologica - educatie pentru sanatatea pamantului

Educatia ecologica - educatie pentru sanatatea pamantului

Author(s): Felicia Opran / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 7/2018

Contemporary ecology studies the structure, functionality and conservation of ecosystems. Human civilization plays a very important role in the evolution of ecosystems on our planet, but unfortunately, man does not seem to be aware of the immense role he has. In order to know the way this system works, and we are part of it, it is essential that man is educated in spiritual respect for the environment so that he becomes aware that he is not the master of nature but part of it. Environmental education must develop at the level of the whole of humanity an attitude of responsibility in the use and preservation of natural resources. Interest and love for nature are, in most children, instinctive. In addition, the behaviors and beliefs of children at an early age are the ones that best preserve their lives. Childhood skills and habits are largely preserved over the course of their lives. Even young children have to form disapproving attitudes towards those who violate environmental hygiene standards, which increase pollution through irresponsible actions. Education aims to bring researchers and environmental decision‑makers closer to one another in order for the goal to be achieved. As long as the population does not know the essence of the living world to which it is surrounded and will not be sensitive to its quality, it will not seek to maintain the ecological balance. Consequently, ecological education is a fundamental condition for achieving a balance between man and nature, between ecology and the economy.

Author(s): Anči Leburić / Language(s): Croatian Issue: 1/2008

In this paper, the author presents the results of the qualitative analysis of professional and public discussions about a Project related to the revitalisation of the Riva in Split. This project won the fi rst prize in a public competition for the design and urban plan of the Riva. The analysis was based on the focus groups in Split at the end of 2005. About eighty participants, grouped according to their professions, were included in this research. The content frames of the conducted discussions are analytically presented in this paper. The accent is on the more frequent and discussed proposals, evaluations and opinions of the citizens of Split. Therefore, the author has stressed the importance of attitudes toward the Project and its social role in the current development of Split. Finally, the author proposes contents and forms for creating public opinion, as well as for the articulation of professional aspects before applications dealing with urban planning and similar aspects are invited. The importance of systematic planning of various sociological research is also stressed. Empirical studies would allow more relevant and consistent insights into the understanding and explaining of real social conditions and relations. In that way, this would create urban culture as the development strategy of Split.

Educația ecologică – educație pentru viață

Educația ecologică – educație pentru viață

Author(s): Corina Coles / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 6/2017

The need for environmental education is emphasized by the disastrous consequences caused by the imbalance between development and care for the environment. Irrational industrialization process has the effect of environmental pollution and thus disturbance of natural phenomena. The frequency of weather events with high impact on human settlements is increasing. Human health is endangered, and many species of flora and fauna are endangered. Consequently, improving people’s consciousness and accountability for the natural environment and its problems require: improving the respect for our natural environment; rational use of natural resources; responsible waste management.

Dlhodobo udržateľné využívanie ekosystémov

Author(s): Štefan Šrobár / Language(s): Slovak Issue: 2/2020

Ecology studies the relations of organisms and their environment. Ecosystem is established by mutual concurrence of organisms and environment. Global environmental problems point to our persisting unwillingness or inability to use ecosystems rationally with regard to their long-term functioning. Ecosystems have ability to soften negative effect of anthropogenous factors. Therefore, we can disturb and damage the ecosystems for certain time and cumulate alien substances in them. However, when the threshold value of ecological stability is crossed, degeneration or even devastation occurs. Deep ecology is the way of achieving accord and balance among individuals, communities and the whole nature.

Erdőidő

Erdőidő

Author(s): Imre József Balázs / Language(s): Hungarian Issue: 06/2020

Jaboury Ghazoul’s volume Forests was published in Oxford University Press's prestigious Very Short Introductions series. The author, specialized in ecology offers an interesting insight into the ecology of forests from a multitude of perspectives. The volume discusses the difficulties in giving a precise definition of what a forest is – what kind of plants and in what density can be considered to form a forest. The conclusion of the author which is valid throughout the book is that our cultures frame how we define and how we relate to forests. A historical overview of forest ecology that takes the reader back into geological periods shows in the volume the variations that occurred in the way plants inhabited the planet. Another chapter discusses the factors that disrupt the lives of forests – showing that even without human intervention forests can have a history of transformations of their own. In addition to this, in the era of the anthropocene forests are radically transformed by logging activities, by constructions, by commercial interests. These aspects are discussed in connection with possible scripts of future, in the context of climate change and human activity. The review article presents Ghazoul’s book from a cultural perspective, in its relation to the themes discussed in Korunk’s thematic issue about Trees in a posthumanist and ecocritical approach.

Hogyan állhat ellen az erdő? Esszé John Fowles The Tree című könyvéről

Hogyan állhat ellen az erdő? Esszé John Fowles The Tree című könyvéről

Author(s): Péter Zoltán Kovács / Language(s): Hungarian Issue: 06/2020

In his essay about John Fowles’s book The Tree the author discusses the relationship between Fowles’s idea about fiction and the structure of gardens and forests. According to Fowles, the structure of prose fiction can be seen in a strong connection with the labyrinthic jungles and forests. Kovács argues that this sort of relevance should take into account the temporal primordiality of forests in connection with mankind, maintaining however the validity of Fowles’s arguments in other important contexts. The ambivalence of the relationship between trees and humans is encoded into the paradigm of modernity. To engage in a discussion with a tree, mankind should first address its own relationship to modernism and all of its implications.

Cresterea populatiei globale si impactul asupra mediului

Cresterea populatiei globale si impactul asupra mediului

Author(s): Andra Oana Bălăceanu / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 2/2013

The growing number of people did not prevent the development of society, its spiritual life and material well‑being, but rather was a factor of progress on Earth. But it is obvious that on a finite planet, population growth can not be infinite.Degradation of nature and the high level of pollution is mostly due to excessive population growth of population. This increase brought the need for additional agricultural land – resulting processes of deforestation, erosion, desertification, etc. – And made the world to find a race of unprecedented industrial needs and desires of the growing masses of people. Climate change refers to increasing global population causing increased human activity (transport, heating, refrigeration, industrial, waste, etc.) which in turn determines the amplification of the greenhouse effect. Humanity, the rising number bothered to provide the necessary food and water resources exploited irrationally, forgetting that some are non‑renewable. Arriving in the third millennium has made limiting resources problem but in terms of demographic trends, the population that actually reach a planet that would not be able to assure the necessary resources for survival.

Poluarea apelor marine costiere la litoralul romanesc al Marii Negre si fenomenul de eutrofizare - cauze, efecte

Author(s): Victoria Popa,Elisabeta Stan / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 2/2013

At the first sight, the problem of improving ecosystems seems impossible to be solved. The marine ecosystem occupies a very large tridimensional space, having a great complexity, with fragile boundaries, hard to define and so, it can’t be protected entirely. At the seaside of Black Sea, in the two great ecosystems of the coasts – the one of sandy bottoms with Corbulomya and the one of heavy bottoms with mud, during the last ten years were registered big ecological modifications; in the future, it can be perceived a continuous detuning and degradation of them, if they aren’t protected.
