Nebunia și nebunul în documentele juridice românești din secolele al XVII-lea – al XIX-lea

Nebunia și nebunul în documentele juridice românești din secolele al XVII-lea – al XIX-lea

Author(s): Gabriel-Andrei Stan / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 4/2015

Author(s): Ayşe Beyza ERCAN / Language(s): Turkish Issue: 2/2021

Various reforms were made in administrative and social areas in the Yuan Dynasty, or the Kublai Khanate, which ruled China for nearly a century. Thanks to the ethnic diversity that existed in China at the time, there was sufficient human capital to carry out scientific activities which enabled Kublai Khan to ensure the success of his reforms. Remarkable advances were thus made in the fields of education, culture, translation and science during the Kublai Khan period. Examples in this progressive period include the establishment of an observatory and two different astronomy offices run by Muslim and Chinese scientists in the capital, Khanbaliq. Kublai Khan's reforms and state-sponsored support for developments in the field of science and culture began to bear fruit in a short period of time. Therefore, this new innovative state structure of the Yuan Dynasty managed to be different from other Mongolian nations in different areas of Eurasia. From the perspective of Mongolian history, this study will throw light on the early innovations made and the scientific and cultural studies, which was done in the Yuan Dynasty during this period. In addition to this, the cultural interaction between the Iranian Mongols and the Chinese Mongols will be examined.

Author(s): Mustafa Nal,Ekrem Sevim,Gulfer Bektas,Ummuhan Dirican,Ebru Sahin / Language(s): English Issue: 77/2022

Objectives of this study are to investigate the effect of workload on turnover intention and burnout and the mediating role of burnout in the effect of workload on leaving.COVID-19 pandemic leads to highly challenging work conditions for healthcare workers including nurses who mostly work at the front-line accompanying patients. This research was conducted in a private hospital with a Joint Commission International (JCI) certificate in Istanbul of Turkey between January and March 2021. 247 nurses comprising 91% of the nurse population in the hospital have been included. Workload had positive effect on burnout (β=0.51, 95% CI [0.287, 0.441]) and turnover intention of nurses (β=0.31, 95% CI [0.322, 0.603]). Burnout had a positive effect on turnover intention (β=0.54, 95% CI [0.932, 1.32]) and a mediating role in the effect of workload on turnover intention (β=0.41, 95% CI [0.302, 0.530]).Our finding indicated that increased workload is associated with increased levels of burnout and turnover intention of nurses. Furthermore, burnout has a positive effect on mediating the turnover intention.

Caught Unprepared: Consequences of Getting Full Online During a Pandemic

Author(s): Aykut Arslan,Serdar Yener,Fatma Korkmaz,Uju Violet Alola / Language(s): English Issue: 77/2022

Although the concept of remote working is not new, and it has been in use for a while, billions of people and workplaces were caught in surprise during the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to full-scale lockdowns people got stuck with their family members. And in a very short time they were expected to set up home-offices and continue working. Balancing family relations with daily work schedule was hard for many. Drawing on a sample of instructors, this study investigates how people felt and dealt with it. Homogeneous purposive sampling technique was employed. The authors contacted with people from their network and asked them to fill in the online questionnaires. The people contacted also help to reach others in their network and consequently a total of 435 people participated. Most of the sample is comprised of university instructors (44.4%); followed by secondary school (22.8%), primary school (18.6%), and high school teachers (14.3%). We developed a theoretical model based on boundary theory and study the relationships among eWork-Life interferences with technostress and psychological well-being. The results supported our hypotheses and we found that timely IT assistance might decrease the felt technostress. Implications and further study suggestions are made accordingly.

Fragmentele de medicină populară din manuscrisele slavone din Banat

Fragmentele de medicină populară din manuscrisele slavone din Banat

Author(s): Duşiţa Ristin / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 3/2010

Besides the presentation of the main language characteristics of the Slavonic manuscript Miscelaneul de la Praga (of XIV-XVth century, Hodoş-Bodrog Monastery) that could be established, with more or less approximation, the period and the origin of the writer or the linguistic area where the work was copied, this manuscript could be analyzed from its content point of view, as well. In this case, we would have an interdisciplinary approach of lecebnic, and the information about the folk medicine that we can find there could make a background for a presentation of the folk believes about illness and their remedies in the Medieval Age. That would be one of the common elements and the starting point for a comparative estimation of the folk medicine fragments of Miscelaneul de la Praga (The Slavonic Book of Prague) and Sbornicul medical de la Variaş (The Medical Book of Variaş, XVII-XIXth century ). Much more than that, in both of them we can find magic and symbolic formula and practices of driving away the illness that have a direct relation with the magic medicine. So far, all these facts could be relevant for the magic thought and vision of the south-east European folk culture and tradition.

Narrowing the gap in regional and age-specific excess mortality during the COVID-19 in Hungary

Narrowing the gap in regional and age-specific excess mortality during the COVID-19 in Hungary

Author(s): Csaba G. Tóth / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2022

In the first year and a half of the pandemic, the excess mortality in Hungary was 28,400, which was 1,700 lower than the official statistics on COVID-19 deaths. This discrepancy can be partly explained by the protective measures instated during the COVID-19 pandemic which decreased the intensity of the seasonal flu outbreak, which caused on average 3,000 deaths per year. Compared to the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, the third wave showed a reduction in the differences in excess mortality between age groups and regions. The excess mortality rate for people aged 75+ fell significantly in the third wave, presumably partly due to the vaccination schedule and the absence of a normal flu season. For people aged 40-74, the excess mortality rate rose slightly in the third wave. Between regions, excess mortality was highest in Northern Hungary and Western Transdanubia, and much lower in Central Hungary, where the capital is located. The excess mortality rate for men was almost twice as high as that for women in almost all age groups.

THE IMPACT OF COVID-19 ON VAT TAX RATES IN EUROPEAN UNION COUNTRIES. EVIDENCE FROM BULGARIA

THE IMPACT OF COVID-19 ON VAT TAX RATES IN EUROPEAN UNION COUNTRIES. EVIDENCE FROM BULGARIA

Author(s): Zhelyu Zhelev / Language(s): English Issue: Sp. Issue/2022

This article aims to point out the changes in the tax rates of the European Union countries affected by the coronavirus crisis. The period during which the analysis is carried out is March 2020 - December 2020. Each of the 28 Member States is examined separately and changes in the VAT tax rate are identified in individual industries. Based on the collected data and their analysis for the specific period, it is noticed that the countries try to support the most affected economic sectors from the crisis on the one hand, and on the other hand to keep their economic stability within relatively good limits. VAT is a multi-stage tax, the collection of which is a major revenue item in the budget of each Member State of the European Union. Any change in its regulatory nature or tax rate reflects on the methods of taxation, respectively its collection and financial effect on the budget. However, the crisis with the coronavirus and the lockdown of shops, restaurants, hotels and other sources of income has necessitated easing the tax burden on taxpayers in all countries of the European Union. The relief is a reduction in the tax rate for certain products and economic activities.

Lietuvos gyventojų mirtingumas ir epidemiologinis perėjimas 1849–1921 metais

Lietuvos gyventojų mirtingumas ir epidemiologinis perėjimas 1849–1921 metais

Author(s): Dovilė Bugienė / Language(s): Lithuanian Issue: 48 (01)/2021

With the modernization of societies, mortality is one of the key factors in the process of population change. Mortality since the middle of the 20th century in Lithuania has been widely studied in various aspects. However, the previous historical period in this field is still little studied and data on the changes in the development of Lithuanian mortality are almost unavailable. This article presents a study on the basis of the information from Roman Catholic churches death records books to reconstruct the structure of causes of death in the Lithuanian population in 1849–1921, its differences between urban and rural areas, and the links with A. R. Omran’s theory of epidemiological transition. The data of death records suggests the epi¬demiological transition in Lithuania began at the end of the 19th century – the beginning of the 20th century and displays the influence of the type of place of residence on the pace of mortality change.

A Collective Imaginary and a Proposition for Change

A Collective Imaginary and a Proposition for Change

Author(s): Lucinda Boermans,Alexandra Dumitrescu / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2022

This article focuses upon young people’s negative stress and anxiety in an educationsetting through a metamodern lens. The driving question of this project is the recurring issue: given the many factors that stress young people these days, how can we address those stressors? The aim is to shed some light on what educators can do to help young persons who live with anxiety. We also aim to create a short publication of received responses to forward to education authorities worldwide. In discussing the issue, we are drawing upon our personal experiences, creative processes, and recognized research from multicultural practitioners in the disciplines of medicine, education, art, sociology, and philosophy. The focus will not be on theoretical solutions, but on practical, creative ones. Metamodern attitudes propose that past texts can hold ever renewed relevance for the present. Accordingly, this narrative is told in an epistolary format complemented by a questionnaire and contemporary responses to an essay written in the middle of modernity some 80 years ago by New Zealand born kinetic artist Len Lye in collaboration with British writer Robert Graves, “Individual Happiness Now: A Definition of Common Purpose”. Responding to Lye’s essay “in the now of immediate action” calls for a focus upon “timing” our “position” in the world and an ethics of care, as well as endeavours to “stimulate [the] dormant intensity” of the present (1).

Лексикографско моделиране на анатомичната терминосистема в Анатомичен учебен латинско-български речник

Author(s): Irena Stankova / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 1/2010

Creating a lexicographic product which presents anatomical terminosystem for the purposes of medical education in Bulgaria is a serious linguistic and methodological challenge in view of the growing interest in studying specialized terms in various scientific areas. The Anatomical Latin-Bulgarian Dictionary is intended for university students of medicine, dental medicine, pharmacy, biology and college students, lecturers and specialists who need a reference book in translating anatomical nomenclature. In this sense the dictionary serves as a multifunctional guidebook, which combines theoretical principles and practical exercises.

Lessons Learned from Forced ERT (Emergency Remote Teaching) Caused by Covid-19: The Experience of Heads of Nursing Education Institutions

Lessons Learned from Forced ERT (Emergency Remote Teaching) Caused by Covid-19: The Experience of Heads of Nursing Education Institutions

Author(s): Rachel Kemelman,Daniela Cojocaru / Language(s): English Issue: 78/2022

The aim of papers is to describe and discuss the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the traditional approach in undergraduate nursing education in Israel. The lockdowns due to the COVID-19 pandemic forced an abrupt transformation from the face-to-face educational approach to ERT (Emergency Remote Teaching) in tertiary education in general and in undergraduate nursing education in particular. The current research was part of a mixed-method doctoral study that explored the implementation of a new nursing core curriculum mirroring social change in Israel. This particular section was based on in-depth interviews of 14 heads of nursing schools and nursing departments in colleges and universities. The content data analysis was performed on in-depth interviews. The interviews were conducted between March 2019-January 2021, after the release of the draft version of the new nursing core curriculum. Half of the interviews were completed after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, and so relevant to the current discussion. These interviews included additional questions about the transformation to ERT and adjustments for this made in nursing education institutions. The content analysis revealed the theme that exposed the different ways that nursing education programs in Israel were managed during the COVI-19 pandemic. Findings are presented and analyzed. The categories emerging from this theme related to different coping patterns with ERT, consequences, coping with clinical practice challenges and with online examinations and lessons learned. The paper discussed the impact and the perceived necessity of various online platforms. The findings demonstrate that Israeli nursing educators learned to overcome the main barriers to distance learning. This process was largely engendered by the COVID-19 pandemic that forced them to face and manage the situation. The lessons learned equipped them with valuable tools to adjust nursing education to 21st-century demands.

Factors Influencing the Teaching Beliefs of University Faculty Members during Covid-19 Pandemic

Factors Influencing the Teaching Beliefs of University Faculty Members during Covid-19 Pandemic

Author(s): Wan-Chen Hsu / Language(s): English Issue: 78/2022

Taiwanese university educators’ efficacy is traditionally associated with the belief in aligning teaching and learning outcomes. However, existing research on teacher efficacy involving modern university educators is limited. We bridge this gap by exploring university educators’ perceived efficacy and the factors that influence those perceptions. We surveyed teachers from a national university in southern Taiwan using the Teacher Efficacy Scale and interviews about the source of efficacy beliefs. We obtained 74 survey responses and descriptive statistics and analysis of variance were performed. During the interviews, four qualitative data sets were collected, and we analyzed the data using a continuous comparison analysis method. Generally, participants had medium- to high-levels of perceived efficacy; however, levels differed by gender. Efficacy scores were also higher in course design, technology usage, and classroom management, compared to instructional strategies and learning assessments. The main sources of efficacy perception included mastery experience, role models, student-teacher relationship, professional growth, and student support. Our findings suggest several strategies for follow-up research to promote university educators’ sense of efficacy.

Application of the prototype theory in interdisciplinary research

Author(s): Danuta-Pluta Wojciechowska / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2006

Logopedics, as a science of speech disturbances, is an interdisciplinary branch of science. While trying to answer questions pertaining to speech disturbances, their description and aetiology, as well as trying to help those individuals affected by these disturbances, logopedics makes use of achievements of other disciplines like linguistics, laryngology, phoniatrics, orthodoncy, psychology, pedagogy etc. Relatively young trend in linguistic research is cognitive linguistics which constitutes an integral part of all cognitive sciences and is also an interdisciplinary branch of science. The Author advocates for the possibility of applying cognitive linguistics, and especially the prototype theory, in the logopedic research. One of the relatively new scientific disciplines is logopedics. It addresses speech problems. The author raises the question of the depth of scientific reflection in logopedics and at the same time indicates that there is a possibility of applying the cognitive linguistics, particularly the prototype theory in the logopedic research. Referring to her own research and her own reflection upon the problem she describes the prototypes which are characteristic of children with cleft palate - they are as follows: the anatomical prototype, the prototype of biological dysfunctions and the prototype of communication.

THE USE OF CONTEMPORARY TECHNOLOGY IN TEACHING LITERATURE: SHAKESPEARE ON A SMALL SCREEN

Author(s): Vesna Suljić / Language(s): English Issue: 3/2022

Due to the world health, social, economic and political crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic which started in 2020, continued into 2021 and will probably extend its effects into years to come, the educational sector has been affected in many ways – from students’ inability to attend classes in the classroom, to the sudden change of teaching methodology from traditional methods which used technology sparingly and occasionally to the new methods which require the teachers’ and students’ constant reliance on their computers, smart phones, different applications and communication platforms. Students needed to cover materials planned in the course outlines, meet learning outcomes, and on the top of that stay motivated and inspired to learn while the world around them did not know where it was going. This paper will present the delivery of the course on Shakespeare conducted in the Department of English Language and Literature at International University of Sarajevo – firstly in the classroom, then online. It will describe the teaching methods and changes to the previous course format necessitated by the move to online teaching; compare the new and previously used technology in the same course; describe the teacher’s and students’ involvement; and present the final result of the students’ project titled “The Reading Theatre”. The students’ achievements and their and the teacher’s evaluation of the course content will be outlined at the end of this paper.

Aplicarea dreptului Uniunii Europene în contextul pandemiei COVID-19

Author(s): Kriszta Portik / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 2/2022

The COVID-19 pandemic emerged in the spring of 2020 has generated unprecedented challenges worldwide and as well at EU level. The public health crisis had a major impact on the EU economy and on the living standards of the EU citizens. In order to find the right answers to the challenges brought up by the pandemic, the ensurance of a good and enhanced cooperation between the EU institutions and the national authorities of the Member States was necessary. The crises generated by the pandemic has revealed the insufficient character of the EU competencies in the public health domain and has imposed the adoption of extensive financial aid measures at the level of the Member States. The paper at hand presents the general measures adopted at EU level in response to the pandemic, in order to minimize the negative economic effects, with special accent on the state aid measures adopted in the EU and in Romania, in special.

ANALIZA POSTOJEĆIH MODELA ZAPOŠLJAVANJA OSOBA S MENTALNIM TEŠKOĆAMA U BIH

ANALIZA POSTOJEĆIH MODELA ZAPOŠLJAVANJA OSOBA S MENTALNIM TEŠKOĆAMA U BIH

Author(s): Ljubo Lepir / Language(s): Bosnian Issue: 5/2022

The employment of persons with mental disabilities is a very demanding area of social policy since the realization of the universal right to work is burdened with many challenges. In the first place, these are real problems of adapting persons with mental disabilities to work processes, which arise from limited possibilities of using individual competencies. On the other hand, community stereotypes and prejudices further complicate the inclusion of people with mental disabilities in work processes. Difficulties arise from the practice of not applying existing legal solutions, as well as from the constant lack of institutional capacities that should provide systemic support for the employment of these people. Bosnia and Herzegovina, as a signatory to international documents in this field, established a formal legal framework for employment of people with mental disabilities, which is based on the practice of employment of people with disabilities. Entity laws and funds for professional rehabilitation and employment of people with disabilities form the basis of this framework. The analysis of the employment of people with mental disabilities shows that in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in addition to institutional models, there are noninstitutional innovative solutions created by the active participation of user associations.

19. Yüzyılın Son Çeyreğinde Malatya'da Yaşanan Afetler, Sosyal, Ekonomik Krizler ve Yardım Faaliyetleri

Author(s): Abdurrahim Fahimi AYDIN / Language(s): Turkish Issue: 31/2022

Disasters such as earthquakes, fires, famine, locust invasions and cholera caused unfortunate disasters in Malatya in the last quarter of the 19th century. In addition to all these, the immigrant and Armenian question has deepened the issues. Each devastating event triggered another disaster. Although the issues were tried to be resolved with local measures at the beginning, these measures were not sufficient. Problems were tried to be solved with the joint aid of the state and the people. The Ottoman Empire has acquired a number of principles while settling the refugees. The main purpose of these principles is to provide food for immigrants. An order has been established in which they can provide their salaries and shelter within the framework of humanitarian aid. The black market became widespread with the increase in demand for foodstuffs during the war years, the decrease in production and the cessation of imports as a result of the closure of transportation routes. The state has made intensive efforts to provide the necessary nutrients and basic consumer goods for the feeding of the poor people, the Army and civil servants, and to prevent price increases. In order to combat speculation, basic consumption items have been pledged.Cords and lazaretto were opened to combat the cholera epidemic, and the rest of the food was met. Due to the magnitude of the damage and financial loss in the earthquake, it was decided to collect aid for the victims of Malatya in all Ottoman provinces in order to heal the wounds of the disaster victims. While the people of Malatya were going through difficult times, they showed a good example of the fusion of the state and the nation, and carried out contractual activities with the state in needed areas.

Working From Home – Why Aren’t We Happier?

Author(s): Annabelle Olivia Utamalie,Audrey Amanda Sasmito,Jyureiko Sagita Mailoa,Willy Gunadi / Language(s): English Issue: 79/2022

This study seeks to determine the impact of working from home policies due to COVID-19 restrictions towards work-life balance and job stress, and the effect of work-life balance and job stress on job satisfaction during the pandemic. It also approached the possibility of workload as a moderating variable between WFH and work-life balance, and WFH and job stress. Changes during the pandemic caused a difference in working conditions employees must adapt to. Using a regression analysis including 200 respondents of Indonesian employees, the results confirmed the relationships between WFH to work-life balance and job stress, and work-life balance and job stress towards job satisfaction. Workload did not have a moderating effect between WFH towards work-life balance or job stress.
