Effective school in a crisis COVID-19. Engaging the school community in coping with school challenges based on the Lewin and Fisher model, in transactional analysis terms

Author(s): Justyna Józefowicz / Language(s): English Issue: 10/2021

This article is a case study of coping with the challenge of change at Primary School No. 6 in Września from October to December 2021. Underlying the intervention work described in the case study was the model of implementing change in an organization proposed by Kurt Lewin (Lewin, 1951; Bhayangkara, 2020) and John Fisher’s approach to individual coping with change (Fisher, 2012). In this paper, we look at the process from the perspective of educational transactional analysis. The purpose of the process was to increase the sense of psychological and content security of the 7th and 8th grade community during the period of December 2021. 630 individuals actively participated in the process. The analysis was based on qualitative re- search in 5 groups of school community members: teachers (N = 45), students (N = 300), parents (N = 280), a group of psychologists and educators (N = 3) and school management (N = 2). The process included: observation, in-depth interviews, group work, and discussion. Participants also had an opportunity to individually analyze conclusions and proposals developed during the process. As a result of the actions taken, comprehensive solutions and recommendations were pro- posed, which were communicated and implemented in the community of classes VII and VIII, among students, teachers and parents. In this paper we show that and why parallel work with all major stakeholder groups is necessary to effect change in the school.

Kontrola trzeźwości pracowników wykonujących pracę zdalną – uwagi na tle nowelizacji Kodeksu pracy

Author(s): Jagoda Jaskulska / Language(s): Polish Issue: 2/2023

The Labour Code has recently been supplemented with new legal regulations on controlling employee sobriety and remote working. In the hitherto binding legal state, these issues were regulated only in a fragmentary manner, leaving many important issues outside the sphere of regulation. However, the manner in which these issues have been regulated by the legislator raises many doubts which may significantly affect the application of the new provisions in practice. The article is devoted to one of the many problems signalled in this context –sobriety control of employees working remotely. It analyses, among other things, the premises for the admissibility of checking the sobriety of employees, showing their relationship to the obligation of sobriety and the obligation to protect the life and health of employees by ensuring safe and healthy working conditions. These considerations were then related to remote working in order to assess, on this basis, the usefulness of the new provisions on controlling employee sobriety in relation to employees working remotely.

Author(s): Kamila Naumowicz / Language(s): Polish Issue: 2/2023

Discrimination based on disability is indicated in the Polish legal system as one of the prohibiteddiscrimination criteria. However, the definition of the term “disability” may cause difficulties due tothe differences in the meaning of this term on medical and legal grounds. There are diverse models ofperceiving disability that affect not only its various definitions but also influence the existing formsof assistance and means used to combat discrimination. Limited ability to work makes people withdisabilities particularly vulnerable to discrimination in the sphere of employment. Special rights forpeople with disabilities are aimed at reducing or completely eliminating existing barriers that preventthese persons from fulfilling their social roles. The purpose of this study is to discuss the special rightsof people with disabilities in the sphere of employment, with particular emphasis on the employer’sobligation to provide the disabled person with the necessary reasonable improvements. The analysisof the existing legal solutions leads to the conclusion that further legal and social changes are necessary, with the main emphasis on the elimination of social disability.

Author(s): Nina B. Lalević / Language(s): Serbian Issue: 25/2023

COVID-19 pandemic momentarily impaired human activities, from the ones of labor, education, and medical treatment to those of complex production. Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) program was welcomed but with reserves. Many financial experts see them as timely and holistic. On the other hand, certain measures require significant spending. Therefore, the question of midterm reparation remains. European countries differ in pandemic response – protection masks, lockdown, media coverage, to name a few. Nevertheless, healthcare system was deeply impacted everywhere. EMU predicted rise in the unemployment rates so special program for unemployment risks was activated. After more than three years of pandemic that is yet to be eradicated, issues in labor, schooling, medical treatment, production and in supply chain are still present. Sociální ekonomika a občanský sektor

Sociální ekonomika a občanský sektor

Author(s): Marie Dohnalová / Language(s): Czech Issue: 1/2005

The majority of social scientists agree that there are chief socio/political/economic sectors in any country. Society can be analysed as a product of the public sector (state), as the private sector (market) and as the civil sector (non-governmental and non-profit sector). What distinguishes a civil sector from private and public sectors is the fact that the organisations it includes have been established on the basis of shared values and interests of a group of citizens and of those who support them. These civil organisations are independent of the state and the market, and embrace diverse types of groups, associations, unions and societies. Civil sector is sometimes identified with social economy, which reflects new types and organizational forms of companies. Social economy includes cooperatives, mutual societies, associations and foundations. In the Czech Republic the civil sector comprises of organizations that are non-governmental, private, public-serving, self-governing, and having a voluntary, grass root nature. They cultivate values such as mutual support, benevolence, solidarity, philanthropy, but also participation of citizens in decision-making processes concerning public matters. Civil sector organizations specialising in education, healthcare, social services, culture and leisure and recreation activities are the most numerous ones.

THE ADAPTATION OF MANAGEMENT CONSULTANT PROFESSION FROM INTERNATIONAL TRENDS TO ROMANIAN MARKET CONDITIONS

Author(s): Felix Angel Popescu,Laurențiu Petrila / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2017

As a point of reference on the Romanian market for management consulting services, it can be stated that its evolution over the last years has suffered a positive impact, in principle, due to the relative overcoming of the period of economic recession. Of course, this does not mean that the situation of client companies is extremely favorable, because it is precisely this period of return and re-adjustment to market requirements that has led to cost cutting measures, including management consulting costs.

LEADERSHIP FROM THE MULTIGENERATIONS PERSPECTIVES

LEADERSHIP FROM THE MULTIGENERATIONS PERSPECTIVES

Author(s): DENIS SCAFARU,BRIGITTA IELICS / Language(s): English Issue: 23/2023

The Romanian workforce is more diversified than ever in terms of generations. The diversity of generations and their vision of leadership has created a conflict over how to lead organizations whose employees have a very different view from generation to generation. Each generation has a set of values, attitudes and beliefs that can influence the way leaders of organizations lead their people. When we talk about the diversity of generations we refer to 4 of them: BabyBoomers, Generation X, Generation Y and the latest Generation Z. Companies have a huge opportunity in terms of the Millenials generation, right now, because this is the generation that will take over the workforce. These individuals are among the few people who were born in an age where information can be accessed in seconds with the help of technology. Compared to other generations, their level of literacy and digitization is much higher than we can imagine. Businesses can capitalize on their potential for better workplace efficiency and positive outcomes. This study aims to find the best qualities in terms of leadership and to raise awareness between the leaders to be more flexible regarding the leadership styles and to adapt to the needs of the employees.

Selective knowledge concealment – the influence of culture and mental models vs. the ability to share knowledge

Selective knowledge concealment – the influence of culture and mental models vs. the ability to share knowledge

Author(s): Radwan Kharabsheh,Joanna Małecka / Language(s): English Issue: 49/2023

RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: Knowledge management (KM) issues support the possibility of achieving competitive advantage. However, it is not a simple process, as knowledge sharing does not come naturally. Hence, there is a need for research on individual, team and organisational antecedents using a wider range of methods. Investigating the causes of selective knowledge concealment is the main objective of the article, as well as the impact of organisational culture and the determinants of knowledge concealment or sharing by employees.THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: Individual in-depth interviews were conducted with managers and employees to collect empirical data, while thematic content analysis was used to analyse the collected data and draw conclusions.THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: Perceptions of the world and of organisations are shared by people from a given environment. Mental models take into account the multifaceted nature of the phenomena under study: perception, focus and experience. The beliefs held by employees are important because they imply management actions at all levels: tactical, operational and strategic.RESEARCH RESULTS: Employees do not hide their knowledge automatically but selectively. They subliminally assess the value of the knowledge sought, the value of the seeker, the immediate situation and wider contextual and organisational factors. Interestingly, respondents surveyed were more likely to share knowledge with foreign colleagues from a different national culture than with colleagues of the same nationality and cultural background.CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS: A number of recommendations of an applied nature were presented in the article. It is important to create a common willingness to share knowledge among employees. A skilful increase in social capital should foster a decrease in the concealment of valuable knowledge and at the same time increase the extent of sharing. An efficient reward system, individually designed for the needs of the organisation, could support this process.

With the first case of coronavirus discovered on March 11, 2020, Côte d'Ivoire is affected by the COVID-19 pandemic which shakes the entire world since December 2019. This health crisis had socioeconomic implications. It hit public health systems hard and led to a slowdown in the country's growth dynamics. Projections have been revised from 7.2% to 1.8% in 2020. Faced with this situation, the Ivorian government called on the contribution of local authorities and goodwill in this fight and also took measures to curb the transmission of COVID-19. For the implementation of these provisions, the municipalities adopted strategies while carrying out actions. So, what are these strategies? Thus, this work aims to analyze the means of management of the pandemic by the Ivorian communes and particularly the actions of the Yopougon town hall against COVID 19. What were the means and strategies to combat the coronavirus in this commune? The method used involved literature research and interviews. The results of our research reveal that to combat COVID-19, Yopougon Town Hall adopted the following strategies: making additional arrangements, meetings with association and community leaders, religious leaders, and youth leaders. In addition to this, there are awareness campaigns on barrier gestures through the municipal radio, the installation of posters, the distribution of wipes, hand washing devices, hydro-alcoholic gels, etc. The Municipal Council also encouraged populations to be vaccinated through meetings and concerts on the importance of vaccination against COVID-19. Elected officials also provided material support (food and non-food items) to vulnerable populations (senior citizens, women, disabled people and young people, etc.) affected by the consequences of COVID-19 (due to work stoppages, reduction of working hours). For the implementation of these different strategies to combat this pandemic, the town hall received financial and material supports from the government, international organizations, development partners and goodwill. The town hall was helped in this task by a dynamic team made up of councilors, municipal staff, health workers, Red Cross agents and volunteers.
