OKOVI DEMOKRACIJE U BOSNI I HERCEGOVINI

OKOVI DEMOKRACIJE U BOSNI I HERCEGOVINI

Author(s): Irena Musa / Language(s): Croatian Issue: 1/2015

This article gives a short overview of democracy from its beginnings till the 20th century, when it became accepted as the most desirable social invention. Some theoretical contributions to the development of democracy are stated, especially the reformatory ideas of John Stuart Mill about society, state and its organization. Mill argues that democracy is the most suitable form of government because it can ensure equal life opportunities for all, order and progress. The paper also focuses on the issue of crisis of democracy and its paradoxes in mature democracies of the capitalist West and also on the beginnings of democracy in the socialist East. A special emphasis is put on establishment and development of democracy in a multinational state such as Bosnia and Herzegovina. In BiH the democratic experience is relatively short and is often frustrating, because the state is still unstable and burdened with many problems from closer and further history which slow down the democratic process and a functional establishment of democratic order. Importance and inextricable connection of political culture, democratic education, and civil society with democracy is also emphasized. It is also noted that these phenomena are undeveloped, neglected or marginalized in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Nowa Humanistyka: w poszukiwaniu granic

Author(s): Agata Bielik-Robson / Language(s): Polish Issue: 1/2017

Bielik-Robson proposes a critical analysis of the New Humanities. Despite the seeming continuity of emancipatory approaches, she argues, the New Humanities are not founded on enlightenment philosophy but on Heidegger and his unconditional critique of modern subjectivity and its Machenschaft, i.e. its calculating attitude to the world, to which it does not feel connected. The lack of connection also signifies a lack of ties: the unbridled subject of calculating rationality turns out to be the source of unlimited violence towards being. The New Humanities oppose the hubris of such a notion of subjective freedom by trying to identify its limits: to link it with existence once again, and in this way to tie it up, to entrap and tether it. The goal is to experience the ‘blessing of limits’: not to make a progressive or transgressive move towards the exit, but to make a regressive move, somewhat like the prodigal son – a manoeuvre that the tragic Greeks described as nostos or ‘return home’.

A Conceptual History of Political Regimes: Democracy, Dictatorship, and Authoritarianism

A Conceptual History of Political Regimes: Democracy, Dictatorship, and Authoritarianism

Author(s): Adam Przeworski / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2017

The labels we attach today to distinguish political regimes have histories. Applying them without understanding these histories is sometimes anachronistic and ethnocentric. I have little new to say about “democracy” and “dictatorship”, so that the discussion of these concepts is just a reminder. “Authoritarianism”, however, is a dubious neologism. I advance two claims: (1) In all regimes the power to command and be obeyed entails some dose of reason-giving, (2) What distinguishes regimes is the form and the extent to which the authority of rulers is monopolised by physical force. I conclude that the concept of “authoritarianism” adds little to the distinction between democracy and dictatorship.

Paradygmat emancypacyjny? O możliwym nowym zwrocie politycznym w polskim kulturoznawstwie inspirowanym tradycją CCCS

Author(s): Jacek Drozda / Language(s): Polish Issue: 01/2014

The intellectual tradition of the “Birmingham school” is without a doubt one of the fundamental ingredients of Polish cultural studies. Nevertheless, it had been inscribed into the Polish leg of this complex discipline in a very specific, sometimes distorted manner. This text explores the political dimension of cultural studies and their potential as a useful critical approach in the epoch of neoliberal hegemony. In spite of the fact that British cultural studies of the CCCS (Centre of Contemporary Cultural Studies) tradition and Polish academic approaches to modern culture had developed in very different political and social conditions and there had been very few, if any, direct interactions between them, they share many ideas. Today, the depoliticisation of Polish humanities, although not overwhelming, is remarkable. In the time of a multilayered crisis, researching culture should not be devoted only to the “politics of pleasure” but also to the relation between the contemporary politics, economics and culture in general. In this essay, the author proposes one of the potential ways of exit from this problematic situation which is based on juxtaposing and re‐examining the scientific and political heritage of the cultural studies, some elements of Polish anthropology, Marxism and their postmodern reinterpretations. It takes form of an open framework, the “emancipatory paradigm”. New look at the CCCS tradition is proposed as a tool that enables the recapturing of crucial elements of political critique such as class analysis which has been almost abandoned by the practitioners of Polish cultural studies due to its historical burden generated by the vulgarised Marxism under the communist regime.

"A vallási élet elemi formái"-tól "A média rítusai"-ig: durkheimi fogalmak a kommunikációelméletben

Author(s): Eszter Bartha / Language(s): Hungarian Issue: 18/2012

The essay gives a critical review of The Rituals of the Media by Lajos Császi. It seeks to showhow the Durkheimian sociology of religion can be applied to the modern communicationtheory and what perspectives such a combination can store for sociology. The mediahas a significant impact on the formation of public opinion; therefore, its rituals deservea special attention. However, the opinion forming power of the media depends on thesocial structure and the movement of the masses. Today even ordinary people can broadcastInternet TV-programmes and we have not even mentioned the technical possibilitiesoffered by the various social network sites. It is not only the technical competence, whichdetermines whether a given opinion will remain embedded in a narrow subculture or itsucceeds to move the masses, which was a well-loved catchword of the 20th century

Крахът на неолибералните утопии

Крахът на неолибералните утопии

Author(s): Vihren Bouzov / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 1/2015

The ongoing process of globalization has entailed growth of inequalities and injustice worldwide. Neoliberalism cannot be an adequate strategy in this process. As a development strategy it is unable to ensure normal functioning of a social system and just relationships between people. The neoliberal values claim to be an universal therapy for all economic and social diseases. But they are utopia that were scattered because of the mismatch between the social interests of the elites and the underprivileged people around the world. The outliving of the nation states, the free media, the neoliberal economic slogans and the global democracy are utopian projects that collapsed in the world today. Formulation and acceptance of new social values on the basis of communitarianism is a road leading to the finding of a way out of permanent crises and regional conflicts, to boosting up economic and social development.

THE POWER OF SPIRITUAL MANIFESTATION. SIMMEL’S THEORY OF CONFLICT APPLIED TO JUDAISM

THE POWER OF SPIRITUAL MANIFESTATION. SIMMEL’S THEORY OF CONFLICT APPLIED TO JUDAISM

Author(s): Mădălina Măndiţă / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2015

The study analyses the way in which the spiritual manifestation - the Judaism - forms in a very profound way the identity of a community. In this view we discover those key elements that become essential in the sociological understanding of a very troubled history, and we can reach this objective using the conflict theory of Georg Simmel. For this sociology of Judaism through what we can call creative conflict (with positive outcomes) we use the impressive studies of Max Weber and Antonin Causse concerning the ancient Judaism. The research of Judaism by the founding fathers of sociology permits us to read this unique people, contributing also to a right framing to understand present social realities, but also to the discovery of those decisive points that forms the immutable character of Jewish identity.

Współczesne spojrzenie na teorię totalitaryzmu

Współczesne spojrzenie na teorię totalitaryzmu

Author(s): Damian Winczewski / Language(s): Polish Issue: 2/2019

The aim of this article was to examine the cohesion and political connotations of the term „totalitarianism”, which is often used in the public debate in Poland. On the basis of a contemporary critical research, the content of the most popular concepts of totalitarianism has been analyzed, paying particular attention to the so-called „Cold Ward efinition of totalitarianism”, as it seems to be the most popular in a public debate. The author claims that the concept of „totalitarianism” was created in specific historical conditions and was frequently used as a tool to sanction the rule of liberal ideology. Thus, although „totalitarian model” is generally recognized in social sciences, it should be used with caution in assessing entire political or ideological currents.

An Overview Of The New Media Role
In Original Literature Publishing In Slovakia During The First Decade Of The New Millennium And Shortly After

Author(s): Marián Grupač / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2020

Public publishing space for authors of original contemporary literature in Slovakia has changed and expanded significantly in the last three decades since 1989. Due to the development and use of modern technologies and the existence of digital virtual space, nowadays the authors of Slovak literature can publish their texts in many more media than before 1989, and almost without any limitations. However, the literary, aesthetic, cultural or fundamental artistic relevance of such contributions is in many cases controversial. In the context of the publication space of new media, internet portals and online literary magazines often publish without deeper critical selection and (often even minimal objective literary-critical reflection almost everything delivered to their editorial mailbox as by ambitious writers?), as well by those whose works are lacking basic literary talent and the necessary creativity.
The paper maps the situation in the area of publishing original literature, especially poetry, in Slovakia at the beginning of the 21st century in the context of the use of new media and modern digital technologies.

Influence of Social Networks on the Supporters Communities in Bulgaria in the 2020/2021 Season

Author(s): Hristina Yordanova,Minko Pondev / Language(s): English Issue: 4s/2021

The development of technology and the transformation of the Internet into a dominant channel of communication have led to intense and diverse changes in the behavior of moderate and extreme supporters of sports teams. The report presents a brief overview of the characteristics of the communities of supporters in Bulgaria: profile, structure and dynamics of formal and informal fan organizations throughout the country and abroad. The global pandemic and the closure of sports facilities have led to an intensification of the importance of cyberspace as a substitute for real events and phenomena. This report focuses on the features and dynamics of open and closed fan groups on social networks. For this purpose,150 pages of organizations and groups of supporters of the most active communities in Bulgaria were studied through the method of content analysis. The report presents a brief overview of the socio-psychological characteristics of fan communities and makes a typology of groups and pages in the Bulgarian virtual space by deriving four main types with their basic characteristics: common pages, national groups, regional factions and leaders' pages. The analysis focuses on their mechanisms of influencing the attitudes and behavior of both extreme and moderate supporters, through identified behavioral patterns online and live in the relatively short period of attending sporting events.

The scientific value of the twin researches conducted by Gheorghe Oancea-Ursu

Author(s): Mariana Marinescu,Mihai Botea,Dragos Botea,Georgeta Groza / Language(s): English Issue: 4/2021

Romanian contributions of the twin method between theory and practice. The twins method allows us, more than the other methods, to approach the forms of interaction between heredity and the environment:– identical heredity (monozygotic twins) – identical environment;– identical heredity (monozygotic twins) – different environment; – different heredity (dizygotic twins) – identical environment. In the education of pupils, an important contribution is represented by the interaction between genetic factors and environmental factors, so that the controlled addition of influences from the proximal environment(family, group of friends, everyday situations) and influences from the distal environment (Internet, media) leads to: – improving school performance and daily driving; – the development of skill.

ХОМИ БАБА: ОД ПОСТКОЛОНИЈАЛНИХ ТЕОРИЈА КА ТРАНСКУЛТУРНИМ ПОЛИТИКАМА

Author(s): Igor Perišić / Language(s): Serbian Issue: 78/2022

Homi Baba, American-Indian literary theorist and philosopher of cul- ture, is one of the key figures in postcolonial theory. His original contribution is in the introduction of the terms „hybridization“, „mimicry“, „cultural difference“,„ambivalence of colonial discourse“ and „third space“, which enriches the repertoire of postcolonial theories and problematizes these theories in the key of poststructur- alist philosophies, especially those of Jacques Derrida, Jacques Lacan and Michel Foucault. As a postcolonial literary and cultural theorist, Baba opposes binary divi- sions of theories / policies in The Location of Culture (1994) to try to show the true meaning of postcolonial theories. Of course, in order to arrive at this new practice, it was necessary to discuss some aporia into which his thought often falls, especially to develop a complicated dialectic of the ambivalence of post/colonial discourse. In parallel with postcolonial thought, Baba develops philosophy of culture, which is thematized in the second part of the text. In the essay „DissemiNation“ (1990), as a poststructuralist-inspired thinker he does not derive a systematic transcultural theory, but only deconstructively points to the „splitting points“ of the unison-understood Culture as a monolithic and monopolistic Western narrative.

Od krytyki do postkrytyki. Nowe możliwości interwencji społecznych literatury w „Limits of Critique” Rity Felski

Od krytyki do postkrytyki. Nowe możliwości interwencji społecznych literatury w „Limits of Critique” Rity Felski

Author(s): Tomasz Mizerkiewicz / Language(s): Polish Issue: 2 (20)/2022

The article discusses a groundbreaking post-critical project in Anglo-Saxon literary studies formulated in Rita Felski’s book The Limits of Critique. Tomasz Mizerkiewicz offers a comprehensive analysis of the “hermeneutics of suspicion” carried out by Felski, showing its numerous limitations. Felski argues that criticism – understood as an emotionally uninvolved reading of literature being part of the panoptic system of power that subjugates individuals – should be modified to embrace an affective quality and a new vision of the ontology of a literary work. Felski believes that thanks to Bruno Latour’s actor-network theory, it is possible to begin to perceive the literary work as a causative non-human actor. The work then avoids participating in the sterile dispute between the idea of the autonomy of art and radical pragmatism, which assumes the full dependence of the meanings of this work on the context. Theorized in new phenomenological analyses, literature demonstrates a capacity to exert influence. At the same time, it does not do anything by itself, but in cooperation with other important human and non-human actors (readers, schools, reading family customs and others). The type of critique described in The Limits of Critique becomes a conscious participant in the social interventions of literature consisting in the joint discovery of the possibility of the emergence of new types of connections, networks and communities. Thus, critique and literature contribute to the development of particularly effective varieties of aesthetic, economic and political agency.

There is insufficient research on this issue in the specialized literature. The results of the own research are presented and the main directions of psychopedagogical interventions are included, containing the activity with children, parents and teachers.
