Učinak broja opcija na promjenu preferencija uslijed odluke

Učinak broja opcija na promjenu preferencija uslijed odluke

Author(s): Andrea Ritoša,Igor Bajšanski / Language(s): Croatian Issue: 2/2015

Decisions not only reflect but also shape preferences. Making a choice between two equally attractive options alters the preferences in a way that the evaluation of a chosen option increases, while the evaluation of a non- -chosen option decreases. Preference change is a way of dealing with choice-induced cognitive dissonance. The aim of this study was to examine whether the choice-induced preference change differs when the number of options in the choice task is considered. Research was carried out on 57 subjects. Their task was to evaluate the attractiveness of travel destinations, choose between two, four or six equally or unequally attractive options, and then to re-evaluate them. It was found that after making a choice between equally attractive options, the chosen options became more attractive. This effect was stronger in the tasks with more options. The desirability of rejected options was lower after the choice was made, and this effect was stronger in the tasks with a smaller number of options. With easy choices, there was no significant difference in preference change for chosen and non-chosen alternatives. These findings support the idea that decisions shape preferences.

Understanding What Drives Informal Learning at Work: An Application of the Resource-Based View

Author(s): Debora Jeske,Christian Stamov Roßnagel / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2016

The resource-based view identifies a number of factors that may influence employees’ informal learning. In a cross-sectional survey of 113 German employees in the energy sector, we examined a number of potential predictors of informal learning and a more positive informal learning attitude. The results showed that proactive help-seeking and professional self-efficacy were positive predictors of informal learning. Employees who were older, who enjoyed learning, sought help and were self-efficacious learners had a more positive attitude towards informal learning. Employees who had a more positive attitude about informal learning rated organisational learning provisions as less important, potentially due to being proactive help-seekers. Managers rated organisational learning resources as less important than non-managerial employees. However, managers also reported higher professional self-efficacy. These circumstances may also influence their decision-making regarding the need to provide learning resources to others in the workplace.

Czech journalists in the 21st century: who are they?

Author(s): Alice Nĕmcová- Tejkalová,Filip Láb / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2016

Who are Czech journalists and what do they do? Based on data from 291 interviews with Czech journalists working in the news media at various levels between 2012 and 2014, for the Worlds of Journalism Study (www.worldsofjournalism.org), the paper introduces for the first time an overview of the most important results of the Czech part of the study. We present an analysis of the data on journalists’ working conditions, the most and least important perceived influences on their work, as well as their level of trust in various institutions, recent significant changes perceived in their profession and the professional roles they prefer. The basic demographic data of our sample is also given. The survey was done in two phases, between which significant media ownership changes took place, making the results highly up-to-date. We conclude that the position of journalists is changing. Journalists are required to write more stories than before, yet have less time to research them. Although they assert the importance of journalistic ethics, they have also perceived that ethical standards have somewhat weakened recently. Nevertheless, they express a high level of autonomy and freedom in their work.

Multidimensional and comparative study on intellectual capital and organisational performance

Author(s): Boris Urban,Gabriël Coenraad Daniël Stoltz Joubert / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2017

Intellectual capital (IC) as the knowledge-based equity of organizations is increasingly recognised as an important value contributor to performance. By building on previous research, the study examines the IC components of human capital, structural capital and relational capital as they relate to organisational performance. Following past international studies, a model is developed and statistically tested. A survey is administered to firms across several industries and data is analysed employing structural equation modelling. Recognising that replications and extensions of IC studies are vital to knowledge development, comparisons with international studies are made. The results provide support for the hypotheses where relationships between the IC components and performance are evident. These findings suggest that it is crucial for an organisation to optimise the utilisation of its human capital for the sake of optimising its structural capital, which leads to higher performance. By positioning the study in terms of IC literature, the study offers the ability to compare the present study findings with similar findings across countries.

Determinanty satysfakcji zawodowej kadry pielęgniarskiej w Polsce

Author(s): Danuta Kunecka / Language(s): Polish Issue: 1/2016

Introduction and aim of the study. Professional satisfaction is one of the most important elements determining the quality of life of every human being. Its level can be determined by a number of different factors. The aim of this study has been to identify the most important ones in relation to the nursing environment in Poland.Material and methods. A study has been conducted with a method of diagnostic survey using a standardized questionnaire in a group of 1066 economically active Polish nurses. Results of track modeling in the studied group testify to the fact that among Polish nurses the greatest impact on the level of professional satisfaction have: the company's image, the atmosphere in the workplace and performed tasks. The level of remuneration does not have a direct impact on the job satisfaction in studied environment. Instead, it has a significant impact on displeasure perceived by nurses. Due to the fact that the level of professional satisfaction in a group of Polish nurses is significantly affected by parts characterized as real motivators, in order to raise its level managers should primarily skillfully choose management style from among those that are based on the thesis that the employee is the most important asset for any, viable and functional organization.

Osobine ličnosti kao prediktori akademskog sagorijevanja studenata

Author(s): Tamara Efendić-Spahić,Elvis Vardo / Language(s): Bosnian Issue: 4/2017

Professional burnout is usually defined as a set of symptoms in the form of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and reduced personal and professional fulfillment of pleasure because of participation in professional and personal activities. Dispositional characteristics are a significant risk factor for the development of burnout syndrome. Research conducted on a sample of 248 junior students at the Department of Philosophy in Tuzla, was aimed to determine the association between personality traits and intensity of burnout students. Examination of personality traits used A shortened version of the questionnaire Five factor personality (BFI Big Five Inventory) was used for examination of personality traits, which enables self-assessment of respondents on the five basic dimensions of personality. For the purpose of evaluation of academic burnout, we used the questionnaire of academic burnout (Schaufeli et al., 2002) that measures the level of burnout in academic terms. When checking the hypothesis we used multiple regression analysis, in which the basic dimensions of personality were treated as predictor, and academic burnout as a criterion variable. The results show that the symptoms of academic burnout are present with the junior students of different study profiles (M = 44.34, SD = 11.61), and that personality traits systematized through the five-factor model is a significant predictor of academic burnout (R = 0.56 df = 5, p = 0.00) and explained 31.9% of the total variability of academic burnout. From the personality traits that contribute most to the explanation of academic burnout are Conscientiousness (β = -0.373; p = 0.000), Neuroticism (β = 0.141; p = 0.03) and Openness (β = -0.164; p = 0.01). The research results show consistency with similar studies, and indicate the importance of compliance review program content with the possibilities of their implementation by the students, and the adaptation of the study program professional aspirations of students.
