Literowanie luk codzienności. Konteksty narracji o afazji

Author(s): Klaudia Muca / Language(s): Polish Issue: 5/2016

Individuals who have experienced aphasia often create narratives about beginnings – about relearning language and cultural codes, about finding one’s bearings in space, about expressing experiences. Many of these narratives form an idiom of personal experience, an account of regaining oneself through language. In this article Muca describes and analyses the work of Karolina Wiktor. Wiktor portrays her episode of aphasia as an experience of a deficiency, loss and renewed creation, through the smallest particles of words, that is to say letters, coming together as a narrative about ‘an explosion of the brain’. For an aphasiac, the creation of a narrative is a sort of (self-)therapy. Analysing such accounts allows us to tackle fundamental questions about cognition, such as the relationship between language and the creation of identity.

Психичното благополучие – връзки и взаимоотношения с удовлетвореността от работата и живота

Author(s): Ilonka Kovacheva / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 1/2016

Mental health is defined as a state of being in which individuals are aware of their skills, are able to cope with normal stress in life, their labor isproductive and they contribute to the welfare of the community. Dependencies between personal status - age, sex, marital status, number of children, income level and their job satisfaction, life satisfaction, subjective happiness and well-being are explored. The results showed that gender has extremely weak influence on job satisfaction. No dependence has been detected between the marital status and the explored parameters of the respondents. A connection between the satisfaction index and the number of children in the family was discovered. The highest values of positive relationships, life goals, sense of independence and job satisfaction belong to people with three children; those with two children have lower values and persons with one child or no children have the lowest and very similar values. It was found that the degree of job satisfaction does not affect mental well-being. Respondents generally appreciate life in a positive light and have a high result on the scale of mental well-being. A conclusion is made that the cognitive component of life satisfaction and the affective component happiness and subjective well-being are determined by different conditions.

Author(s): Magdalena Michailova / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 1/2018

During this period, many people go through a lot of changes and they feel a strong need for independence. This need for independence is one of the main reasons for the difficulty in communication between parents and their children as parents are not always willing or able to do so. The most important thing for the teenager is the need to break free from the control of their parents, there is no bans on which to obeys and norms of behavior to follow.

The Consciousness of the Posthuman in Peter Watts’

The Consciousness of the Posthuman in Peter Watts’ Blindsight

Author(s): Michał Różycki / Language(s): English Issue: 28/2017

The purpose of the paper is to analyze what seems to be one of the main themes of Blindsight – the treatment of the human brain and consciousness as yet another part of the body that can be enhanced to maximize its efficiency, with all the unnecessary parts to be remade or removed. This point seems to be emphasized by Watts’s characterization of the extraterrestrials – star faring, resilient and superintelligent, but lacking any sort of individuality or consciousness. Having, or being,a “self” is, it would seem, more of a flaw than a positive trait.

Representation of mental oddity in two novels by
Philip K. Dick

Representation of mental oddity in two novels by Philip K. Dick

Author(s): Damian Podleśny / Language(s): English Issue: 28/2017

The paper focuses on two novels featuring several examples of Dick’s characters who experience mental incapacities, breakdowns or suffer from serious mental states. In one of his novels, Martian Time-Slip (1964), the writer makes use of the possibilities of the “space-opera” setting to create a dramatic narrative featuring two people whose comprehension of the surrounding reality differs from that of the “normal” characters. The novel discusses the social incongruity of those who are considered mentally ill, and their struggle to overcome society’s conformity and ignorance, when it comes to accepting such people in society. The two focal characters are Manfred Steiner and Jack Bohlen; the former is an autistic child and the latter suffers from a latent form of schizophrenia. Both of them struggle to survive in the grim and oppressive environment of human colonies on Mars. In a much later novel, A Scanner Darkly (1977), Dick explores the process of gradual disintegration of human mind, resulting from excessive use of drugs. Bob Arctor, a local junkie, who is, in fact, an under-cover government agent, infiltrates the community of drug users. However, his cover forces him to take drugs, which leads him to serious brain damage resulting in schizophrenic fits and imminent mental disintegration.

Симулация и огледални неврони. Анализ на понятието за намерение в експеримента на Якобони

Author(s): Nikola Nedelchev / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 2/2015

The goal of the present article is to analyse some of the main premises for justifying the simulation theory (ST) via the mirror neuron theory. The first task will be to formulate a criterion which will set the analysis’s limits. Here I will refer to this criterion as “Goldman’s criterion” (GC). According to GC, the attribution of mental states requires that they be simulationally represented as mental rather than behavioural states. The second task is to introduce the analysis’s object. The object of the analysis enters the picture as part of the theoretical explanations of Iacoboni’s experiment. According to the experiment’s results, mirror neurons represent intentions, which is taken as evidence in support of ST. However, here I will show that the experiment’s description can be a source of alternative uses for the concept of intention – ones that refer not to states, but rather to behavioural dispositions. If this is the case, then GC can not be fulfilled, because of a conceptual problem.

BAZELE NEURO-FIZIOLOGICE ALE COMPORTAMENTULUI INTENȚIONAL

Author(s): Dan PSATTA / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 1/2020

The intentionality was brought as a theme of philosophical meditation by Husserl, and his theories had and have a great impact in the Romanian philosophy. The main problem of philosophical thinking of all time was the lack of objective validation. I proposed the functional (neuro-physiological) research of mental activity as a fundamental means of validating the philosophy of the spirit, naming this approach neurophilosophy. From this perspective, most of Husserl's statements are invalid. The mental activity has, from a neuro-physiological point of view, two spheres: one of the receptor type (sensory) within the retro-Rolandic headquarters/associative areas, another of the effector type (action) within an area of pre-Rolandic anatomical projection.Intentionality is not sensory, as Husserl (in the theory of the "intentional object") believed, but is a psycho-motor "hinge" between the two spheres, action-oriented and has, from a neuro-physiological point of view, a very complex mechanism, evolving on the animal scale in specific stages, which we try to demonstrate.

The Importance of Mental Health Awareness Training in a European Probation Training Curriculum

Author(s): Coral Sirdifield,Mark Gardner,Charlie Brooker / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2010

In 2009 the CEP held a conference centring around the concept of a pan-European probation training curriculum. This article draws on the results of an evaluation of some training conducted in the UK to argue that mental health awareness training should form part of such a common training programme. The article outlines the potential benefits of making such training mandatory for staff working in probation systems across Europe. In addition, it identifies the role of instructional design in constructing learning resources which are flexible enough to be reconfigured to be relevant in different cultural contexts without diminishing the learning process.

Tożsamość Todda. Mózg między filozoficzną neurosferą a literacką (meta)fikcją

Author(s): Ewa Nowak / Language(s): Polish Issue: 34/2018

The paper explores hybrid identities of main characters in chosen contemporary authors as Kafka, Dürrenmatt, Bulgakov, Dukaj, and in particular Brown. They all contribute to the posthumanist literary genre and to better comprehension of condition posthumana as a leading utopia in the age of advanced technologies. The author argues for affinities between the human and the non-human brain, far beyond the anthropocentrism and anthropodenialism controversy.

The Approach of the Albanian Reality to Autism Spectrum Disorder

The Approach of the Albanian Reality to Autism Spectrum Disorder

Author(s): Lorela Dema,Stela Kapo,Jonad Kosova,Eneda Sala / Language(s): English Issue: 21/2022

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder associated with persistent deficits in social communication and social interaction across multiple contexts and restricted, repetitive patterns of behaviour, interests, or activities. The ways in which autism, culture and the education system interact have not yet been explored sufficiently, even more so when it comes to Albania. Through literature reviews, interviews, and case studies we aim to further investigate how autism is assessed and treated within the Albanian school system and how culture can affect the parent-teacher-child triangle. We also investigate the implementation of laws and policies regarding inclusive education, and its benefits to autistic individuals, specifically in the development of social skills that further help them to integrate into society. We also try to figure out the difficulties autistic individuals face within the school system and in their day-to-day life in Albania, as well as how Autism Spectrum Disorder affects the families of these individuals. This qualitative study found that the reality in Albania is not supportive enough towards autistic individuals. With further research into the field, we might be able to back this statement up with empirical data as well as figure out how this condition can be improved.

The purpose of the article: to clarify the interpretation of the concepts: “competence”, “communicative competence”, “distance learning”, “neuroscience”, “neurolinguistics”, to investigate service platforms for online learning; to find effective teaching methods that contribute to the formation of communicative competence of university applicants. Methods of work - analysis of scientific and methodological literature, system analysis. Results: the use of active teaching methods has a great impact on the formation of communicative competence in higher education students. Service platforms that help teachers conduct online learning with students have been investigated. It was emphasized that videoconferencing and video meetings help to form communicative competence with students. In addition, it was noted that higher education should be implemented using a competency-based approach. Novelty in the work is a review of neurolinguistic programming as one of the effective methods of formation of communicative competence. Conclusion: the use of current pedagogical technologies in the university helps to implement new principles of individualization and differentiation, taking into account the psychological aspects of the person associated with his intellect and speech.
