Relationship Between Person-Organization Fit and Organizational Citizenship Behavior: The Mediating Role of Job Satisfaction

Author(s): Ozan Büyükyılmaz / Language(s): English Issue: 4/2018

This study aims to investigate how person-organization fit perceived by bank employees affects the organizational citizenship behavior and whether there is a mediating effect of job satisfaction in person-organization fit and organizational citizenship behavior relationship. Data for the sample was collected from 184 bank employees working in Karabuk, Turkey. The hypotheses were tested by hierarchical regression analyses. The results show that job satisfaction partially mediated the relationship between person-organization fit and dimensions of organizational citizenship behavior (altruism, conscientiousness, courtesy, sportsmanship, civic virtue). By examining the relationship between person-organization fit, organizational citizenship behavior and job satisfaction, this study allows bank managers to predict why person-organization fit perceived by employees results in increased organizational citizenship behavior.

Değerler Psikolojisi Bağlamindaoptimal Terapi

Author(s): Yener Özen / Language(s): Turkish Issue: 4/2018

In this study, the value of psychology on the optimal life effect and the optimal therapeutic use of psychology is emphasized. Each individual's values system, principles and priorities may be different. People with different values, priorities and principles can perceive the same environment in a different way. Different stimuli in the environment can react first. For example, a person who believes that justice is more important than anything can immediately recognize and react to an injustice that many people in the same environment do not notice. Another person who gives importance and priority to esthetics can immediately recognize and appreciate a beauty that other people in the same environment do not notice. Such individual differences observed in our values, in our priorities or in our principles are not a weakness, but rather a way of enriching our social life. The value found in the first of a person's value sequence is its base value. Theoretically, when all possible values are given to someone, when they are ordered, the value that the person puts up at the top is what he valued more than anything. Psychology deals with the value problem in a different way from philosophy. The preponderance of psychological value is not the role it plays in guiding the human behavior, not as an objective measure. In this regard, the psychologist only takes the value as a belief, and that is enough for him.

In the study, to collect data, in addition to a five items questionnaire which was developed by the researchers, "Constant Self Confident Scale", which was adapted to Turkish by Yıldırım (2013) was used. In the analyses of the data in order to identify significant differences between participants’ constant self-confidence, independent samples t-test and two-way ANOVA was used. As a result, it was found that the participants' sportive constant self-confidence was higher in women and participants who engage in individual sports. But, these levels were found to be moderate when considering the points that can be taken from the whole scale. Also, there was a significant difference in favor of those who professionally play sports.

Author(s): Ramona Ciobanu / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 2/2010

It is possible that some fighters acting in theaters of operations for crisis management and conflict, especially in the first months of activity, but at other times difficult, unpredictable and serious risk of meeting the mission, more states pass through or less serious psychological decompensation, amid an intense operational stress and adverse conditions. It is true that these events are rare for a professional military, which usually are well trained and psychologically for such missions. It does not follow however that there are such cases. Therefore, measures of psychological compensation, psychological decompression, to use a term that we consider appropriate in these cases, and psychological recovery are necessary and useful. Sometimes people go through such states, which can seriously affect physical and mental health and safety, without being fully aware of this and even less responsible. Therefore, both psychological preparation during the mission and the first weeks of post-mission phase, fighters acting in theaters of operations should receive assistance (assessment) appropriate psychological.

Author(s): Aleksandra Zadrożna,Katarzyna Chotkowska / Language(s): Polish Issue: 1/2018

The formation of self-help movements and support groups for mentally ill people has initiated changes in social attitude towards them and in mental health treatment system. In Poland, such initiatives are still in the initial phase of creation, there are only a few such groups. Self-help groups in general provide support by sharing emotions and a sense of understanding connected to experiencing similar problems. One of the most important functions of self-help groups is spreading reliable knowledge about specificity of mental disorders and the recovery process. Educating through direct contact with a mentally ill person is associated with a better understanding of them, as well as a lower level of stigmatizing convictions. One of the examples of a resilient self-help group is the Support Group TROP which is working in Warsaw. Its members conduct numerous educational activities that constitute a signifi cant part of the Groups activity. These activities include lectures for pupils, students, and organizations, presentations at conferences or appearances in the media. From the beginning of TROP Group existence, all activities have been supported by volunteers – psychology students. Volunteers through non-paid work can deepen knowledge about the functioning of self-help movement and the situation of mentally ill people, and at the same time support group members in several initiatives. Volunteers have become a permanent and very important part of all implemented projects. Members of TROP describe volunteers as allies.

Savremeno poimanje motivacije

Savremeno poimanje motivacije

Author(s): Muhamed Škrgić / Language(s): Bosnian Issue: 1/2011

Interest in human behaviour and inner force of such conditions can be traced back to the ancients. General development in science, especially development of fields interested in human psyche (philosophy, pedagogy, sociology, psychology, law, etc.) led to new scientific disciplines. Scientific disciplines developed in this way are oriented towards motivation and give motivation central position in science. Motivation is a social behaviour and psychological function that makes every individual special. Identical motives are not alike if applied to humans and cannot be repeated over and over again. Motivation initiates human activity, leads it to certain objects, determines behaviour which is then connected into a coherent whole. Motivation is also a process of initiating human psyche to certain activity in order to reach a goal. Inner forces within this process are called motives (Latin: movare – move). Basic principles of motives are needs which can be physical, psychological or social. Primarily we are dealing with biological motives (e.g. hunger, thirst, etc.). Absence of such elements causes disfunction of human organism. On the other hand, social motives are usually in close connection to other people (e.g. security, achievement, social needs, etc.)

Discipline of pupils in school is directly conditioned by the work of school organization, the personality of each teacher individually, its motivation and professional competence (competence of teaching area, subject and the teaching methods, competence for teaching and learning competencies to support the development of pupils' personality, competence for communication and cooperation). The teacher's role in creating the atmosphere at the class, and thus creating a working and stimulating discipline in the classroom depends largely on academic knowledge of the teacher, his professional competence, knowledge of the competencies that pupils need to achieve, as well as knowing developmental psychology pupils of the target age group. The level of motivation of teachers to improve the quality and level of knowledge of pupils and the achievement of student achievement through high level of their satisfaction for learning is proportional to discipline of pupils. The atmosphere in the classroom and pupils' participation in the creating of class are also conditions of "good" work discipline and the atmosphere at the class. When the lack of discipline happens, teacher must have the skills to in a timely manner recognize and react with certain intensity, in a manner to establishing any authority and discipline would not be imposed. Permanent professional development of teachers is assumption for establishing a better discipline at the class.

Егоизам код Срба: од етнопсихоlошке црте до синдрома модерног доба

Author(s): Đorđe Vuković / Language(s): Serbian Issue: 4/2012

In difficult and challenging political, economic and cultural circumstances of the present time, altruism and solidarity among people are being challenged, and troubles caused by the material and existential uncertainty often result in the insistence on one’s own particularity only, “I” imposes itself as the highest principle and the greatest good, without consideration (or harm) to another man, to a part of a community, or to the community as a whole. Modern man has accepted and internalised ruthlessness as a method used to realise one’s own interests, while extreme individualism and the concept of civil society favour and nourish such characteristics among mankind. This is when the general, national interest becomes fiction; view to the collective destiny becomes blurred due to narrow and selfish ambitions of individuals. In this paper we aim at the reactualisation of the problem of “commonalty” (“rajetinski”) mentality among Serbian people, especially among its mercenary intellectuals, as evidenced by numerous authors, from Slobodan Jovanović, Vladimir Velmar-Janković, Vladimir Dvorniković, to Mile Lompar, Đuro Šušnjić and Dobrica Ćosić. This ethnopsychological characteristics, according to Jovan Cvijić, was shaped under specific socio-political, historical and cultural circumstances and conditions, among helpless Orthodox population that was subjected to terror for centuries. Because of the incessant struggle to maintain bare survival, surrounded by suffering and fears, the servile mentality of submissive and dispirited people has developed, with distinct characteristics of insidiousness, humility, fatalism, moral mimicry, pragmatism, deceit and egoism. Have these characteristics radicalised among younger generations in the meantime, and to what extent?

Multiple hierarchical regression analyses of data from 645 employed persons were performed. It showed that Future, Present-hedonistic, and Pastnegative perspectives predict Setting of goals and priorities and Scheduling and planning; Present-fatalistic, Future, and Present-hedonistic perspectives predict Preference for organisation, and Present-fatalistic perspective predicts Perceived control of time beyond the Big Five personality factors.

Types of narcissistic self-regulation in the context of personal fulfillment

Types of narcissistic self-regulation in the context of personal fulfillment

Author(s): Maria Klymenko / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2019

Aim. The aim of the research is to generalize different types of "healthy" narcissistic Self-regulation and to disclose the specific of self-fulfillment and personal life satisfaction. Method. The empirical study involved 360 Ukrainian students (N=360), aged from 17 to 24. The following research methods were used F. W. Deneke and B. Hilgenstock’s Narcissism Inventory (1989), A. Längle and C. Orgler’s Scale of Existence (2003), E. Diener’s Satisfaction with Life Scale (1985), D. Polhus and C. Williams’s "Dark Triad of Personality" questionnaire (2002). The obtained data were processed by multivariate statistics (Statistica 8.0 and Exel), using cluster and comparative analysis (Student's t-test, Scheffe Test). Results. The analysis shows that the most effectively functioning narcissistic self-regulation type is characterized by high narcissism that goes together with the high self-power. The personal fulfillment indicators (such as: self-distance, self-transcendence, freedom, responsibility, existentialism, and personality) are also growing in such conditions. Adequate narcissistic self-regulation goes together with the more meaningful relations with reality and enrichment of the person’s internal emotional life. With the growth of narcissism raises rather positive life acceptance and affirmative attitudes towards “Being” and oneself in it. Conclusions. Narcissistic self-regulation is a mechanism that cares about the stability and integrity of the self-system, makes it possible to accept and appreciate one’s own personality. Only through the prism of prizing oneself (high, but functional narcissism) the value of other people and the world could be seen. This opens the possibility to find and fulfill the meaning of existence.

IZVORI PROFESIONALNOG STRESA U KAZNENOPOPRAVNOM ZAVODU BIJELJINA

Author(s): Vedrana Rakić / Language(s): Bosnian,Croatian,Serbian Issue: 1/2016

Professional role of prison workers is complex, highly responsible, and dangerous. Working environment, heterogeneity of prison population and their needs, as well as challenges working staff meet on a daily basis are quite unique and demanding. Hence, it is not surprising that the work of prison employees is classified into the most stressful occupations. In 2014, in Detention and Rehabilitation Centre in Bijeljina, the research was carried out in order to identify the sources of professional stress specific for that institution. Ninety-two employees participated in the research out of 114 employees. Participants were of different sex, age, level of education, length of service, etc. The analysis of gained data selected physical determinants of the job, working load, dangers at work, and challenging relationships among colleagues as the main sources of stress among the employees of the Centre. While convicted persons have a range of different programmes to help them deal with their stressful environment, prison workers have limited resources designed to help with facing professional stress that is “blooming“ in specific prison environment. Taking into consideration that benefits of mapping, naming and dealing with the stress of prison employees are numerous, the care of mental health should be the central aspect of good prison management.

Studying determinants of exposure to the community violence is vital for creating prevention programmes and reducing violence among early adolescents. The aim of this paper is to examine the relationship between determinants (gender, aggressiveness, depressive reactions, self-esteem, parental control, perceived social support from family, peers and teachers) on the one hand, and young adolescents’exposure to violence in the community in the sense of being a direct victim of violence at school and in the neighbourhood on the other. The research sample consisted of 300 early adolescents (160 girls, 138 boys and two participants who did not specify their gender) with average age 12.97 (SD=1.17). Applied instruments: Scale of aggression; Birleson’s depression scale; Rosenberg’s Self-esteem Scale; Parental control scale; Scale of perceived social support; Victimization Scale (Scale of exposure to violence in school as a victim and the Scale of exposure to violence in the neighbourhood as a victim). According to the results of the logistic regression analysis, it was established that the regression model explains 19.6% of the variance criteria of community violence exposure as a direct victim of violence at school and the omnibus test model is statistically significant. Predictors with a statistically significant contribution to the explanation of the criterion are: depressive reactions, aggressiveness, parental control, support from peers. Furthermore, according to the results of the logistic regression analysis, the model explains 11.8% of the variance criteria of community violence exposure as a direct victim of neighbourhood violence, and the omnibus test model is statistically significant. In the prediction of the criterion measure, depressive reactions, gender, aggressiveness and parental control all participate.

ISCJELJUJUĆI KONTAKT SRCA

Author(s): Sabina Alispahić,Enedina Hasanbegović-Anić,Đenita Tuce / Language(s): Bosnian Issue: 1/2019

In Gestalt therapy, good psychological health implies good contact with oneself and with others. Contact, with awareness and experiment, is one of the basic terms in gestalt therapy. It is defined as a relationship between oneself and the other (the environment or internal aspects such as alienated parts of self, blocked emotions, thoughts, memories, or anything that is not integrated into a person, and is not perceived as “I” but as “the other”). To be able to contact others and their hearts, we must first be aware of our heart – its condition, needs, and desires. We usually become aware of our heart when some negative emotion arises or when its rhythm changes, which is characteristic of the broken heart syndrome. This condition manifests with abnormal chest pain and / or lack of air, preceded by strong emotional stress that is most often associated with anxiety and / or panic attack. The paper describes the process of development of the broken heart syndrome, as well as possibilities of treatment. Finally, we can conclude that the broken heart syndrome is a paradox: it is an expression of vitality but also a defense against vitality; the manifestation is a “problem” but also a means of solving it. The primary purpose of suffering and negative experiences is healing: suffering can be a tool that helps us become complete. True healing always implies the spread of the heart and the expansion of consciousness. Ultimately, every successful healing of the broken heart will result in an emotional-spiritual growth and development.
