Summary/Abstract: The result of this research of quantitative approach, is a leadership model based on the works of Bass and Avolio [2004] that includes Emotional Intelligence as a component of it, based on the work of Goleman [1998]. The purpose of the model is its application in family businesses in order to improve the management of the leaders, through the recognition of leadership and emotional intelligence factors, particularly in decision making. This logical hypothetical model [Chamorro 2005] was tested to explain the relationship between both variables in organizations in the State of Tabasco, Mexico. A questionnaire of 56 items was applied for the two variables of the model. The first part of it corresponds to the Leadership, with 36 questions taken from the MLQ 5X Short Form proposal by Bass and Avolio [2004]. The second part focuses on the variable Emotional Intelligence with 20 items based on the work of Goleman [1998] and Reyes [2009]. 327 questionnaires were collected and analyzed using the Structural Equations System supported with the AMOS software. To concluding the validity of the model is to be applied in family businesses.
