REPEATING PATTERN ACTIVITIES AT PRESCHOOL AGE

REPEATING PATTERN ACTIVITIES AT PRESCHOOL AGE

Author(s): Marija M. Vorkapić / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2022

Activities with patterns are very common and very important in the period of the early education of children. Patterns are present in different forms and contexts in kindergarten, where preschool children often encounter situations in which they work on noticing or predicting certain regularities, whether they are everyday life situations like arranging in a column (boy-girč-boy-girl) or drawing zebra patterns (black-white-black-white), etc. New research on early mathematics education increases this content's (positive) influence during the development of numerous mathematical competencies, not only those related to algebraic abilities, measurement and spatial reasoning. The aim of this work is to present the development of competences related to the concept of pattern in children of preschool age. In the first part of the paper, the theoretical foundations of mathematical patterns, their categorization and types, their importance at preschool age, as well as specific activities and operations that can be encountered while working with preschool children are presented. The paper also shows the peculiarities of a special category of patterns-patterns of repetition, which are the focus of this paper. Furthermore, the paper presents some of the previous research aimed at children's activities when identifying the structure of the pattern or units of initiation.

СТРАТЕГИЈЕ МЕРЕЊА ДУЖИНЕ НА ПРЕДШКОЛСКОМ УЗРАСТУ

Author(s): Marija M. Vorkapić / Language(s): Serbian Issue: 1/2022

Measuring length is an integrative part of everyday life. Understanding the procedure of measuring length contributes to the conceptual understanding of measurement, which includes measuring area and volume. Measuring, and thus measuring length, is one of the terms that connects mathematics not only with everyday life, but also with other mathematical areas such as geometry, numbers, statistics, etc. The importance of understanding and developing the concept of measuring length is evidenced by the fact that it is an integral and very important part of many curricula related to preschool education. Of course, measuring length at preschool age implies processes, strategies and measuring instruments that are adapted to the developmental level of children that age. The paper presents the theoretical and methodological foundations of length measurement, development theory of length measurement, as well as a systematic review of length measurement strategies used in preschool age.

Researches point out that using digital technology increase the motivation of learning process and opens a lot of possibilities of using it on natural science and social studies, for example a virtual tour of Kalemegdan, museums. Digital technology provides an opportunity for entertainment and education in the lives of adults and children, and we wanted to explore how future teachers and teachers in preschool see the same in working with students. The aim of the paper was to determine the opinion of future teachers and teachers in preschool on the application of modern technology in work with children. The fourth-year students at Teacher Education Faculty were used as the representative sample. Descriptive method was used, while the instrument for determining the students' opinion was a Likert-scale which consisted items which dealt with the application of modern technology in work with children in the field of natural science and social studies. The results imply that the majority of the participants completely agree that preschool children and younger school-age children should use computers mostly for educational purposes and least for entertainment purposes. The results of the t-test indicate that there is no statistically significant difference in opinion between future teachers and teachers in preschool when we concedering a connection between the level of digital development skills of teachers and their influence on students digital skills development. An encouraging result is that the participants recognize the importance of the application of modern technology, but also that digital technology in the classes of Nature and Society can not replace staying and activities in nature. One of the restrictions of this research was a relatively small sample of the participants, as well as the urban environment, so the next research could be realized with a larger sample of students in smaller cities or rural areas.

DISCOVERY LEARNING - CONSCIOUS AND EFFECTIVE LEARNING IN EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION

DISCOVERY LEARNING - CONSCIOUS AND EFFECTIVE LEARNING IN EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION

Author(s): Eugenia Nadia Ungureanu / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 37/2024

Public policies and educational and social programs in recent decades bring to the fore the responsibility to contribute to the individual progress of the preschooler and, by extension, to the progress of human societies. Current educational policies are oriented, more and more, towards a pedagogy that assumes the direct involvement of preschoolers in learning. Experimentation through the application of pedagogical strategies inspired by the interactionist and constructivist approach to knowledge emphasizes the personal construction of knowledge from the position of a co-participant in one's own training and development, facilitating actions centered on individual activity in the formation of basic skills and the formation of the premises of future competences. The need to change the approach to the socially, psychologically and pedagogically determined act of education is a perspective approach to knowledge emphasizing preschool, it being known that early education is very important in the expression of expectations regarding the perspective of the child's development. The purpose of the study is to use discovery by learning to familiarize the preschooler with nature from the perspective of broadening the horizon of knowledge with an emphasis on direct participation. Using discovery learning in early education lays the foundations for effective learning, ensures the transition to a child-centered system, promoting conscious and permanent learning. The article is based on the study of the aspects related to the theory and methodology of learning through discovery, as well as the age characteristics of preschoolers correlated with learning through discovery.

КЊИЖЕВНИ ТЕКСТ И ВРЕДНОСТИ КОЈЕ ПРУЖА У ПРЕДШКОЛСКОМ ВАСПИТАЊУ И ОБРАЗОВАЊУ

Author(s): Lola Stojanović / Language(s): Serbian Issue: 1/2019

The objective of this work is to unravel the values that certain artworks provide in the function of children wellbeing. A model of methodological analysis of a text is provided, which can be independently used by students and pre-school teachers when working with literary pieces. How to read literary pieces for children is the main objective, as only with a proper literary analysis of a chosen text can the teacher reach the full potential of nurturing children wellbeing through an incentive text. One of the main goals of the new pre-school programs is achieving a platform for wellbeing of a child, and particularly through value system that literary piece offers is the extent of wellbeing promoted. The materials chosen were among those used by students in the exercise room during the summer semester. Two fairytales were chosen: The small pepper, as a typical example of the oral fairytale tradition - and Princess in a paper bag, as a particular anti-fairytale answer to the traditional, but also the classical author signed fairytale.

ПОДСТИЦАЊЕ РАЗВОЈА РАНЕ ПИСМЕНОСТИ

Author(s): Višnja S. Mićić / Language(s): Serbian Issue: 1/2019

In this paper we will discuss the possibilities for the systematic stimulation of early literacy development. Listening to adult reading and make-believe reading are the children's first pre-reading activities, and these activities influence the actualization of other people's speech in children's minds. The first global reading, observation, and creation of rhymes, as well as intuitive comprehension of the syllable in a song or a counting rhyme are the outset of the children's ability to manipulate linguistic units and principles of the symbolic representation. The aspirations towards the mental and visual manipulation of linguistic units help them form the appropriate pre-literary predispositions. The next level of encouragement will imply the introduction of the following terms: sentence, word, sound and letter. With such bases, it will be possible to train children to perform word analysis and synthesis, the symbolic representations of linguistic units, until the final introduction into the world of literacy.

ПРЕТЧИТАЛАЧКЕ ИГРЕ У ПРОЦЕСУ ИСТРАЖИВАЊА

Author(s): Tamara Morina / Language(s): Serbian Issue: 2/2019

The fragments of the project which will try to present the way of succeeding in specified goals of the new pre-school programs are singled out here. Through consideration of these fragments, the most important frameworks of the project focus on encouragement of early literacy, for which it was important to form an exploratory relation toward the problem and discover new ways of guiding the project (study process). In order to create a ,,problematic situation'' we have chosen ,,Forest News ads'' and ,,Cabbage Leaf ads'' by Branko Ćopić. Described within the paper are values of said literary works and the ways that they have brought out the need to play in children. The game they played was based on language exploration. Focus of this paper is development of pre-reading competencies which have led children to new interests and desire to expand the game with practical exploration. The goal is to present how pre-reading activities encourage children to perceive contents and materials from a different developmental area and to gain new insight by developing different potentials. In order to achieve this goal, we identified practical examples which will show different ways of guiding the project, during which we made sure to concentrate on the child as a unique and integral being.

Author(s): Ljiljana Bojanić / Language(s): Serbian Issue: 2/2019

Pets contribute significantly to social, cognitive and emotional development of children. Taking into consideration the importance of pets in a child's life, this paper is focused on treating pets and children's pets preferences. The subjects were fourth-grade pupils in a primary school in Belgrade. We wanted to find out if children prefer pets and which ones, and then whether pupils differ in terms of gender and pet ownership regarding pet care and treating. Descriptive statistics have been applied, while t-test has been used as a technique. Results show that boys and girls are largely in the same position regarding pet ownership, and that pupils preferred mostly dogs as pets, which were followed by fish and cats. There is no statistically significant difference between boys and girls considering friendly pet treating. There is a statistically important difference between pupils who have pets and those who do not regarding friendly treating. It would be interesting to research why children prefer dogs, fish and cats to pets like hamsters, parrots etc. Further research can be focused on emotional attachment of pupils to pets.

The paper deals with the use of different ways of understanding the fractions that are essential for understanding all meanings of the fractions. The aim of this paper is an overview of theoretical considerations of different approaches that can be used in initial processing of fractions. Approach to the meaning of the splits as the relation between the separation and the whole basis from which the processing begins (Lamon, 1999, Marshall, 1993). Using only the above approach is not enough to understand the fractions and their features and meanings in their entirety. For this reason, Keiran and Ber (Keiren, 1976; Behr, 1983) propose the use of other approaches in the initial processing of fractions. The paper deals with the following approaches: 1) deo - celine relationship; 2) a relationship of two sizes, of scale; 3) a fraction as an operation resulting from the combination of two multiplicative operations at an intuitive level; 4) a fraction as an amount (Lamon, 1999; Charalambos and Pitta-Pantazi, 2007). Based on the basic considerations of the relevant literature, which is used in this paper, one can conclude on the importance of applying all of these approaches to understanding the differences in the younger grades of elementary school.

Realisation of the teaching process is increasingly frequently based on modern teaching technologies and utilisation of modern information media. Classes are shifting to multimedia. The interactive "smart" board is just one of these tools -a media "changing the flow" of the classical teaching process. Through its utilisation (and also the utilisation of other modern media and content) the role of the teacher is also altered and it is increasingly morphing into the role of an organiser, a guide, albeit still being a control role which is irreplaceable. The possibilities of applying the "smart boards" are extensive, especially if teachers are willing to work on its development and application. Students are the ones who gain the most -they become more independent, confident, open, interested in working, advancing, competing… The paper offers an overview of possibilities offered by a practical application of the interactive "smart" board and the role of both the teacher and the students in such an environment.

Author(s): Olivera S. Živanović / Language(s): Serbian Issue: 2/2018

The paper is based on the theoretical analysis of the research in the field of problem teaching with the particular reference to its function in the development of students' critical thinking in the initial teaching of mathematics. The aim of this paper is to clarify the important features of problem teaching which influence the development of students' critical thinking. Firstly, we determine the epistemological meaning of the term. Secondly, we present realistic mathematical education as an example of the modern application of problem teaching (Van den Heuvel-Panhuizen, Gravenmeier, de Lange). Finally, we present and analyze the relevant research related to the impact of problem teaching on the development of students' critical thinking. Based on the observed theories and previous research we have come to the following conclusions. Realistic mathematics education enables the use of a wide range of procedures for solving various problems, with the emphasis on the development of the reasoning skills, communication, and encouraging critical thinking among the students. The implementation of problem teaching in the initial mathematics teaching encourages the students to think critically, analyze and solve complex tasks and real problems, find, evaluate and use the appropriate sources of knowledge.

The Rider, literacy textbook for students is determined by the specific tripartite structure (pre-rider, rider and post-rider) and it is used only in the first grade of primary school. Methodical literature focuses the authors of the textbook to organize content so that students more easily overcome the initial reading and writing and it is the only book which, according to the curriculum, contains tasks and guidelines for mastering reading and writing the first language. We studied the presence of the usual textbook elements (content, illustrations, thematic units, working /non-working tutorial), but the emphasis is on specific activities (exercise of writing exercises writing, teaching methods, parallel reading and writing) that characterized the first book which pupils faced in school.

The research was conducted with the aim of analyzing the previous research related to the entire anthropological space of children of the younger school age, and based on them certain conclusions about the full differences related to motor skills, morphological dimensions, cognitive and conative development , and psychological changes. The empirical method of work was used for the quality realization of the research. On the basis of the survey of domestic and foreign authors, it can be concluded that full differences are evident in all ages (from 7th to 11th year), that they are full of dimorphic differences in morphological dimensions, that motor skills develop in general - the existence of a general motor factors. Cognitive and conjectural development, according to the majority of authors, flows smoothly in accordance with biological and chronological age and under the direct influence of socioeconomic circumstances in the environment.

The article is devoted to selected issues associated with acquiring syntax competence by children who are beginning early school education. The author analyzes the linguistic material obtained during the conducted study. The utterances extracted for analysis were constituted by verbs of movement, and at some stage of the construction, there were interferences of various backgrounds. The analysis will allow us to formulate conclusions and observations about the most frequent errors in the formation of syntactic constructions and to indicate which elements of language are not sufficiently fixed in the studied age group.
