The article is an attempt to present the young adults’ position on Polish sex education, which – despite the European recommendations – still remains at an unsatisfactory level. The data were collected to illustrate the attitude of young adults to the sex education that was once offered to them, as well as the experiences related to it. The results of the study conducted by the author of the article suggest that the sources of sexual education postulated by the respondents do not coincide with those from which they had actually drawn their knowledge. Therefore, it was decided to investigate the sex education, conducted (or not) in both Polish schools and homes. The following results may constitute valuable knowledge for people or organizations dealing with this issue. The topics discussed in the article may set the directions for further research that will allow us to better understand the essence of problems related to sexual education and to implement appropriate actions to improve it in Poland.

The authors suggest a model, focused on the implementation of hypnosis as a way of shortening the period of adaptation to changes in the physical environment and / or the related experience or fears, defined as a state of weightlessness – real or subjectively perceived. The general framework is schematically outlined and it is meant to be personalized according to the individual features and the situation, always designated to "empower" the participants in the programme and provide them with an instrument for self-control and self-regulation of perceptions, experiences and behaviors. Possible target groups are individuals with fear of flying and pilots and astronauts due to the specificity of their adaptation in professional setting.

This article discusses the emergent forms of nonfiction for children and youth, what is currently more accessible to readers than ever before, but its professional theoretical grounding in our environment is still missing. It points to the overall current transformation of the genre, which was originally aimed at experienced readers in order to educate and convey facts. Today, this genre goes far beyond its traditional functions. Specifically, the genre: 1) blurs the line between nonfiction and other genres more than ever before; 2) has strong aesthetic aspirations; 3) actively invites furtherwork with the information content presented. Using examples from Čapek & Čapek (2018) by Karin Vrátná Militká & Monika Švec Sybolová), a nonfiction book relating the life and work of two Czech authors and artists, the article then points to some of the genre’s visual, linguistic and literary characteristics, and also considers the place of nonfiction for children and youth in the home and school environment. Selected award-winning nonfiction titles e. g. for teachers and parents are listed.

This paper documents the migration experiences of German-Jewish scholars who fled from the Nazi regime and sought refuge in Turkey in 1930s. Reflecting on the historical narratives originating from the memoirs of renowned scientists, their relatives, or their Turkish colleagues –e.g., a 1986 interview with renowned economist Fritz Neumark, memoirs of Klaus Eckstein --son of famous pediatrician and public health expert Albert Eckstein-- and narratives of colleagues of influential chemist Fritz Arndt, we analyze the dynamics of forced migration processes of German-Jewish scholars, which is a highly qualified and influential immigrant group, to scrutinize the factors affecting their psychosocial adaptation processes in Turkey. The method of qualitative document analysis is used and deductive approach is adopted. Results reveal that premigration expectations, perceived cultural distance, language, intergroup relations and children-related issues were the main themes affecting the adaptation of German-Jewish scholars. Results are discussed drawing on the acculturation theory.

Under the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the dissemination of Chinese culture and language has met unprecedented difficulties and challenges. By expounding the new difficulties and problems faced by the Confucius Insti tutes in Bulgaria during the COVID-19 pandemic, such as the lack of teachers, students’ dropping out, teaching resources shortage, and frustrated interest in learning, this paper analyzes the effective strategies which contribute to ensuring regular classroom teaching and promoting cultural exchange during the pan demic. The practical and effective adjustment includes utilizing existing resourc es, improving TCFL teachers’ information literacy, strengthening localization construction of teachers and teaching materials, and enriching Chinese culture dissemination through the Internet, which not only leveled up Chinese language teaching outside of China, but also successfully popularized Chinese culture across national borders. Those practices actively promoted the cultural exchange between Bulgaria and China, and expanded the impact of Chinese culture in Bulgaria, giving a valuable reference in Chinese language teaching and culture dissemination in the post-pandemic era to other Central and Eastern European countries, and the countries along the Belt and Road as well.

The abstract is an indispensable component of an academic paper. The English version of the abstract in Chinese academic journals plays an important role in its international influence. However, as the English editor of a Chinese academic journal, the author noted mistakes and problems in the English translation of the abstracts ranging from diction and grammar to logic and structure. Based on the classification of the typical mistakes and the exploration of the root causes of them, this paper offers a feasible solution to the above problems in the hope of offering reference for the writing and translation of abstracts in academic journals.

The idiom is the crystallization of the wisdom of a country and a nation, and it is also an important part of language. A country’s colloquial expressions can deeply reflect the country’s culture, language characteristics and national way of thinking. If Chinese language learners want to express themselves authentically, it is particularly important to strengthen the teaching of Chinese idioms. In the two languages, the expressions of idioms are distinct in language form and content. For Chinese language learners in Bulgaria, understanding and learning the differences between the two countries will not only enrich their vocabulary, but can also help them understand the Chinese culture and the Chinese way of thinking in the learning process; this, in turn, will promote Bulgarian scholars’ enthusiasm for learning Chinese. Throughout the existing research, there are not many studies of the comparison of mediation idioms and the teaching of Chinese idioms in China. Therefore, this paper takes the comparison of idioms in mediation and the teaching of Chinese idioms in China as its research object, and uses the methods of literature, comparative analysis, inductive analysis and the interview to compare and analyze the differences between Chinese and Bulgarian common sayings, investigate the teaching status of Chinese idioms in Confucianism, find the problems in the teaching of Chinese idioms in Confucianism, sort out the causes, and on this basis, summarize the teaching of Chinese idioms in China and Bulgaria. Teaching colloquial expressions summarizes some of the teaching strategies and suggestions that have a substantial role in teaching Chinese as a foreign language, and provides some convenience for teaching Chinese as a foreign language.

With the emergence of a “cultural turn” in western translation researches since the 1970s, translators’ subjectivity has been highlighted, and some researchers have also been aware of the existence of intersubjectivity in translation activities; however, the views on the connotation and origin of intersubjectivity in translation are still controversial. This paper attempts to probe into the root causes for the existence of “intersubjectivity in translation” from a cognitive perspective, based on the fundamental “reality-cognition-language” principle in the Embodied Philosophy and cognitive linguistics. According to this principle, “cognition” mediates between “reality” and “language”. Language is formed on the basis of bodily experience and through the processing of human cognitive mechanism. Language is not a self-contained system, but closely related to the external world and human cognition. Furthermore, the author analyzes in depth Prof. Wang Yin’s viewpoint of “weakening phenomena” on “reality-cognition-language”, which sheds light on the study of intersubjectivity in translation. Qualitative research methods (including interviews and translation tests, etc.) have been adopted to collect relevant research data from carefully chosen respondents with different cultural backgrounds and bilingual competence, showing the manifestations of intersubjectivity in translation and the rationality of the kernel “reality-cognition language” principle in cognitive linguistics. In conclusion, fundamentally, it is the “commonness” and “differences” of individual subjects involved in translation activities (including the original author, the translator, the reader of the target text, and the translation initiator, etc.) together with the complicated interrelations among “reality”, “cognition” and “language” that cause intersubjectivity in translation. Intersubjectivity and subjectivity are interdependent, coexisting in the holistic field of translation.
